“Gun Death” Train

This is something I can’t relate to:

A 42-year-old woman was fatally struck by a light-rail train while walking across the tracks, listening to music on her phone.

**DEPARTED** crossed the tracks around 10:15am Sunday morning, even though there were flashing red warning lights, a flashing sign and bells telling of the coming Green Line train.

Now I take the train to work, and I’m listening to podcasts or the radio for my commute. Still I only put one ear bud in just so I can hear the world around me. Still this practice started at my last job when I’d be wandering around the lab doing work and somebody would come up to me and want to talk. Back when I’d have buds in both ears I’d have to stop the recording, pull out the ear buds and ask them to start over. With just one, I hear them from start to finish and can have a conversation while I stop the recording.

Still I never listened to music loud enough that I couldn’t hear the outside world, and trains aren’t quiet. That doesn’t factor in the whole “look both ways before crossing the street” and looking for the flashing lights at the crossing.

Still I guess we need to ban trains….

Error in Victim Selection

This story is getting play on both sides of the issue:

SHAWNEE, Kan. (AP) — Police say three suspects and a business owner have been critically injured by gunfire in a botched robbery at a Kansas City gun shop.

Shawnee, Kansas, police Maj. Dan Tennis says four people tried to rob She’s A Pistol Friday afternoon. Three were shot. Two of them were critically injured. Another had less-serious wounds and was arrested with the fourth suspect in a residential area nearby.

A man who co-owns the store with his wife also was critically injured by gunfire inside the store. He and the wounded suspects were taken by ambulance for treatment. The female co-owner wasn’t shot but sustained minor injuries to her face.

The antis see this as nothing but wanton violence, and a reason for us to give up our guns. The the owner was shot, and his wife was injured! SEE??? GUNS DON’T KEEP YOU SAFE!!!

Well except it was 3 vs two, and the criminals planned the thing, and the shop owners were just open for business. All suspects are in custody. Hopefully the owner will pull though, and I’m pulling for you. Could be EVERYBODY is going to live.

So while it sucks so much blood got shed, what’s the alternative? Let the suspects rob the store, sell the guns, and commit more mayhem? Plus they ALREADY HAD GUNS, and now don’t.

Plus you think only non-violent people are hearing about this story? Those three jokers didn’t expect to get shot that day, and do you think they were the ONLY ONES who thought that way?

**UPDATE** It appears the store owner has died. My heart goes out to his surviving wife, their family, and the customers who knew him. The antis are using this as fodder, but again, three criminals off the street, their guns confiscated, the man’s wife will be fine. I’m not going to call it a “fair trade”, but I will call it a heroic one.

“Gun Death” Foster Family Neglect

A sad and sick one

An Oklahoma mother was arrested on a charge of child abuse murder after police say her 3-year-old foster son died from a severe head injury.

…The couple’s foster son **DEPARTED** was rushed to a hospital August 27 suffering from blunt force trauma to the head. Despite the doctors’ efforts, the toddler’s condition gradually worsened and he passed away from his injures five days later.

…According to court filings, **FOSTER MOTHER** told police the 3-year-old was jumping on the couch when he fell and hit his head on a table.

However, investigators found that the foster mother’s account was not consistent with the severity of the boy’s injuries.

Hey, but only “Gun Death” counts, so lighten up!

“Gun Death” Licenses and Registration

You hear this constantly from the antis. We just need to license gun owners and register guns like cars! Think about that!

A 15-year-old girl without a driver’s license took her father’s SUV without permission before crashing the vehicle, killing three teenage boys, authorities have said.

The unidentified girl, who may have been speeding, is now facing possible charges in the crash,

So we have a registered vehicle, we have licensing for all LEGAL operators of motor vehicles, and we probably have a vehicle that was locked up before it was, let’s not mince words, stolen.

So now three young men are dead. Where do we go from here? Maybe the father should have kept his keys locked up? Savor the irony of that statement!

Of course where we go from here, in the eyes of the antis, is note that only “Gun Death” counts, so these boys can be ignored.

Don’t you feel better now?

“Gun Death” Terrible Dad

A Sick One:

Florida father charged with hurling his 5-year-old daughter from a Tampa Bay bridge just after midnight Thursday had previously been arrested for battery against the girl’s mother and sought a domestic violence injunction against her, police revealed. That request was declined last month.

Really sick! And what kind of monster would do this?

**REDACTED** was previously arrested on two separate battery domestic violence charges in 2010 and 2013 against the mother of his daughter, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said. In 2013, he was also arrested for battery against his own mother.

That kind…good thing he didn’t have a gun, otherwise we might be dealing with a “Gun Death”.

A Muslim Doing The Good Work

Of course due to the recent attack in France I’m hearing a lot of anti-Islam sentiment going around. It makes me mad as I know many Muslims who are great people, just like all the good Christians and Jews I know. Also all three of those religions are Abraham, so as an outsider I see conflicts between these groups at a spiritual level very strange.

So this story makes me very happy:

In the war for young people’s hearts and minds, Mohamed Ahmed hopes to use cartoons to dissuade a generation raised on “The Simpsons” and “South Park” from taking up arms for the Islamic State group and other extremist causes.

Ahmed, a convenience store manager from Minneapolis, has launched AverageMohamed.com, a website offering homemade videos aimed at countering the messages and images terrorists use to lure disaffected youths into holy war.

“I don’t want my children fighting this war. Let’s end this in my generation,” said Ahmed, a married father of four young children.

His website is here, and I decided to post a few of his videos.

Keep spreading the good word!

Ruger SR1911 goes Lightweight!

And in a Commander too!

Commander-length light-weight frame, thin grips, single-side safety, and a standard commander guide rod. Right from the factory this gun is nearly identical to my carry gun that I needed to swap some parts on.

S&W1911sc

I still like the Scandium frame on the Smith better because it is stronger than the more ubiquitous aluminum alloys. Still that rare earth metal, even in the small quantities it takes to make the aluminum alloy Smith uses to get the near-steel strength costs a good bit of money. The Ruger you can probably get a gun brand-new for about what I paid for my well-used gun….plus I paid another $100 for a guide-rod and plug, and some thin grips…

I’m really digging what Ruger is doing these days!

Say it With Me: DISCO CLAM!

Yes, I checked, and it does have an urban dictionary entry…not as exciting as I had hoped!

But reality always trumps fiction!

Ever since the ‘disco clam’ was caught on camera ‘partying’ on the ocean floor, its behaviour has fascinated, and baffled, scientists.

Last year, an expert revealed that the clam’s lips are packed with ‘mirror ball’ style reflectors that help it produce its strobe light effect.

And now the same scientist has discovered this impressive light show is designed to lure prey towards the mollusc, before the clam paralyses its victim with toxic mucus.

…The disco clam is an active, filter-feeding mollusc that lives in crevices and small caves in Indo-Pacific coral reefs.

Their flashing is so bright, it had been previously thought to be the result of bioluminescence.

However, using high-powered transmission electron microscopy, Ms Dougherty discovered that the flashes are caused by specialised tissues that form a double layer, reflective to light on one side, but absorbent on the other.

When the tissue is rapidly rolled and unfurled by the clam, the reflecting light gives the appearance of flashing.

These tissues are so reflective that they can even flash using the low levels of blue light found in the caves.

Fucking amazing!
