A Political Middle Finger

So Open Air parks and monuments are closed off for the public because of the Government shutdown.

We have Vets being removed from the Vietnam War Memorial, and we have armed Rangers forcing hotel guests to stay on the property

We have a couple removed from their home because they have a federal land lease.

These are all places that need minimal staffing, and remember that the sworn peace officer rangers and other police officers are EXEMPTED from the shutdown, so at WORST we have nobody running tours or answering questions to tourists. Worst are the PROFITABLE PRIVATE businesses and homes that do NOTHING but PAY the government.

This is all just a pedantic snit!

And now this:

A planned immigration reform rally will take place on the National Mall on Tuesday even though the site is closed due to the government shutdown.

Organizers for the “Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform” were spotted Monday setting up a stage and equipment on the National Mall for the rally which will take place on Tuesday.

A few scattered barriers around the park have signs informing visitors that the area is closed as a result of the government shutdown.

Susana Flores, a spokesperson for the rally, confirmed for the Washington Examiner that the Park Service will allow the event to take place under the group’s rights granted by the First Amendment.

Yep, as usual Illegal Aliens have more rights than US citizens. And since they (Illegally) Vote Democrat (hence why Donks HATE positive voter ID laws) they get privileges others don’t.

Makes you feel great, doesn’t it?

Right to Keep and Bear ALL Arms

Now this is a GREAT story! The video of it auto-plays so I’ll tuck it behind a brake at the bottom. Make sure you watch it!

A New York deli worker pulled a machete from under his counter and chased away an armed, masked gunman who fired a shot at the wall as he demanded money, police said.

Police on Long Island say the gunman entered the Stop & Shop Deli on Crooked Hill Road Sept. 25 and fired his silver .22-caliber pistol as he ordered the worker to stuff his Air Jordan backpack with cash.

But the 24-year-old worker, seen in surveillance video released by police, flipped the script on the robber and reached below his counter, where he grabbed a machete.

In less than three seconds, the worker withdrew the machete — which appeared to be about 2 feet long — from its black sheath, opened the gate in his counter and charged after the gunman.

The robber took off out the door as the deli worker chased him, slashing the machete in the air. He chased him all the way across the parking lot.

Now first up this could have gone wrong VERY easily. Even with a big knife you still need to close a gap easily covered by even the most amateur pistol shooters.

Still fighting back is the key, if somebody threatens your life you should BELIEVE them. Further for those who might hear me say “this could have gone wrong VERY easily” note that he was no more-or-less closer to death BEFORE he pulled the Machete, than he was AFTER, and at least he was fighting BACK so your odds are a bit better than the Collin Goddard method of hiding until you get shot.

Still it would be better if the store keeper had a pistol.

Of course pistols are all but illegal in New York City…but then again so are REALLY big knives.

The fact that the knife is illegal is just as egregious as the gun, as its the right to keep and bear ARMS not the right to keep and bear FIREarms.

Ok Video under the brake! ENjoy!

A Better Use for Bloomberg’s Money

You know, if he ACTUALLY cared about the victims.

Newtown voters have accepted a $50 million grant from the state of Connecticut to build a new Sandy Hook Elementary School, the site of last year’s school massacre.

The unofficial results Saturday were 4,504 for the grant offer and 558 against.

The vote was essentially a formality since a task force of Newtown officials decided in May in favor of a plan to tear down the school and build a new one. Sandy Hook students have been attending classes at a school in neighboring Monroe.

Now the logical pragmatist in me first recoiled in horror at this. I mean WHAT A WASTE! There can’t be anything wrong with that building that a few thousand dollars can’t fix.

Still I must respect the emotions of the people of Newtown, as its more than just a building now. Still why do the tax payers have to pay to tear down a perfectly good building and re-build it?

I think Michael Bloomberg should build a new School. Hell call it “Bloomberg Elementary” and hang pictures of his vulture-like face all over it.

Looks Like They Lied

And Liars Don’t Like Being Lied to!

A coalition of advocates are urging a private equity firm to make good on its now nine-month-old promise to stop investing in gun makers.

Amid a flurry of media attention in the wake of the Newtown massacre that killed 20 children and six adults, Cerberus Capital vowed to sell of its controlling stake in the Freedom Group, a holding company that owns some of the biggest American gun manufacturers — including Bushmaster, a maker of the AR-15, which was the Newtown murderer’s weapon of choice.

“Cerberus Capital Management has not sold a single penny of its investment in Freedom Group. This is inexcusable and these delays can no longer be tolerated,” reads a letter delivered to Cerberus on Tuesday by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), families of Newtown victims and other gun-control advocates who demand the company sell its stake in the Freedom Group in the next 30 days.

Something tells me they won’t bother.

Many took Cerberus’ December announcement that it would stop investing in firearms as an indication that renewed vigor in the gun control debate made guns a riskier bet for Wall Street firms. Indeed, Cerberus initially had trouble finding potential buyers and the company’s CEO mulled putting up his own offer for the Freedom Group to ward off low bids. Ultimately, he dropped the plan as bids for the company started to roll in, the Wall Street Journal reported in July.

But as Quartz notes, Cerberus has likely been making money off of Freedom Group over the past nine months. As increased attention to gun control boosted sales, the Freedom Group reported a 51 percent increase in sales this year from second quarter 2012.

Essentially saying that gun control efforts are a total flop, and people don’t demonize AR-15s or any other kind of gun. They’re smarter than the mush-mind dummies on the other side who seem to think its the GUN, not the PERSON. And to further add to that bumper-sticker point I’ll note the same jerks calling for gun control are the same people living in cities filled with career criminals freely walking the streets, and no closer to being cracked down upon as they were 20 or 30 years ago!

So go ahead and abuse the Newton families for your ill-will, I don’t think it’ll help much.

“Gun Death” More Cars

Guns are different than cars…because they are DIFFERENT!

Keisha Jones, the West Philadelphia woman accused of crushing her husband to death with her car last year, was found guilty of first-degree murder Friday and sentenced to life in prison.

Jones, 31, was convicted by a jury of six men and six women after a four-day trial. On Nov. 27, 2011, she hit her husband, Tyrone Taylor, with an Acura SUV after an altercation in South Philadelphia. Prosecutors contended she hit him intentionally.

But cars aren’t “designed to kill” so how could they convict her of murder? Only guns can commit murder because only “Gun Death” counts!

That Joke

So last week I listened to this Nerdist Interview with Metallica.

Worth your time, and that’s coming from a fair weather Metallica fan. Now one thing alluded to was that Lars was NOT there, and Chris several times wishes he was because evidently Jonah had cracked a joke about Lars in his Comedy Central special.

I decided to look it up: **UPDATE** Looks like the video is auto-play so here’s a page break to keep it from playing on you:

Ice

So had a little stint of insomnia last night, so was reading Amazon Reviews for this new ice mold I bought.

I had a plastic one that was really cool, but combination of cold and the pressure of freshly frozen ice balls it broke after about a month of STEADY use. (I have a lot of fun with these, so I go into full production mode when I find a cool ice try)

So silicone was what I wanted, silicone just makes better ice cubes, and releases really well.

The positive reviews were why I bought this, but I hadn’t read any of the negative reviews, so I thought I’d look at them.

Some of them are legit. Silicone IS floppy compared to plastic trays so you need to be careful to support it well and not let it spill. Also the lack of rigidity didn’t allow a perfect seal of the mold like with plastic, so you do often have a “rim” of ice where the two sides meet. They come right off…or you can not be such a perfectionist and drop it in your drink.

Some were HILARIOUS, obviously people who couldn’t read directions or understand how ice and water work. Others were people living in fantasy land complaining how their ice balls weren’t PERFECTLY CLEAR. Sorry, that’s not the mold, that’s your freezer…and that’s ALL our freezers, you get clear ice from SLOW freezing. No thanks!

Still a few reviews talked about “Expensive Machines” that they had seen at bars. So I started looking them up. Here’s a video of that!

OUTRAGEOUS! So to make a “longer lasting” ice cube you take some cold ice, and warm it in an aluminum heat synch until its a melting sphere??? And you need to pre-freeze big blocks of ice to feed the beast? My 4-shot tray will make better ice at a fraction of the cost, and when you factor in time, you could simply chip off the imperfections by hand or with chilled tools.

Hey, but that aluminum press only costs a FEW HUNDRED dollars!

I had thought you would get a machine that actually FROZE water for you in a perfect globe, maybe with interchangeable dies! Have fun for a fraction of the price and buy one of these!

**UPDATE** I have taken to adding a bit of water to the top outside portion of the mold to add some weight to the upper half. That appears to make a MUCH better seal making the “Rim” around the middle of the spheres much thinner, and the globes fill the mold cavities much better.

“Gun Death” Fire Safety

Fireplaces can be VERY dangerous if not properly used and maintained:

A family was killed when a crisp packet blocked a chimney and deadly fumes filled their lounge, an inquest has heard.

Trevor Wallwork, 50, and his children Kimberley, 12, and Harry, nine, were watching TV when an empty crisp packet was thrown on to the coal fire. t rose up ‘like a hot air balloon’ and then blocked the chimney, which prevented fumes from the coal fire from escaping.

Lethal gases seeped back into the living room and the family was slowly overcome by carbon monoxide as they watched television.

This is why we are careful of what we throw in a fire, and why all fireplaces should be complimented by a CO Detector. Those simple safety practices would have saved this family’s life.

Of course the “Gun Death” cult doesn’t care at all about this dead family, and won’t spend an ounce of effort over CO detector awareness because only “Gun Death” Counts!

“Gun Death” China

Where their gun control leads to low “Gun Death”

A Beijing court on Wednesday convicted a man of murder and sentenced him to death for hurling a toddler to the ground in a case that horrified the Chinese public.

The 2-year-old girl was severely injured and died in a hospital days after the incident. Her attacker, Han Lei, fled the scene, but police caught him the following day. In court, he said he thought he had been throwing a shopping cart to the ground

Obviously crazy, and free to roam. Still, given that this is China, where infants are abandoned, and the lucky ones get shipped off to the Western World, so the death of a baby, especially a girl one, is insignificant. “Gun Death” is all we should care about!

Right?
