Service Sidearms: Old vs. New

Really more of an amusing video vs anything else. Cap and Ball revolver vs. 9×19 NATO M9A1

Of course the 15+1 Beretta will not only hold more shots, but put them on target faster, and reload faster, as well as recover from a malf better. I still think an M1911A1 would be a better comparison. Also given that the 1911 pattern is still in service in the US Marines.

Also while the 9×19 vs. .45 ACP battle is stupid and moot when comparing modern JHP defensive ammo, meaning the 15+1 Beretta wins out over the 8+1 Colt, the Military is restrained to FMJ ball ammo, meaning .45 ACP still shines when it comes to terminal ballistics.

Light Blogging

Last weekend was a busy one. Had such a good time!

But that and the fact that next week we’re heading out for what will likely be our last big vacation for the foreseeable future thanks to little Miss LaWeer’da, blogging might be lighter than the already lightness its been.

I’ll still be dropping in a few news posts and fisks while I’m working to keep the “Gun Death?” Files rolling.

Thanks for all who are still reading even when content is slow!

“Gun Death” Tree Hugger

Kinda ironic:

A 21-year-old summer camp art counselor was killed Wednesday when a large oak tree fell near Yosemite National Park, camp officials said….Four other adults were treated at hospitals after the tree fell while the children were eating breakfast. The tree took down power lines near the campfire area and dining hall but did not damage any buildings.

Trees are NOT our friends, and you should not hug them…or let children play around trees!

BAN TREES!!! IF IT SAVES JUST ONE LIFE!!11!!

“Gun Death” Boating

Why do we need boats?

A five-year-old boy has died after being thrown from a boat and hitting his head on the propeller in a tragic freak accident….He was hit by the vessel’s propeller and killed instantly, according to a statement from the Glen Canyon National Recreation area.

The kindergartener – the youngest of seven siblings – was wearing a life jacket at the time. Alcohol was not involved in the incident, authorities said.

Horrible, even with all the precautions this boy is dead. Its not a safe world, and its not guns, or “Gun Death” that make it dangerous.

“Gun Death” Mom Poisoning

Those who use “Gun Death” as a metric seem to claim that guns are vastly too dangerous to keep at home because of risk to family members. Still what’s a bigger risk, shooting with a gun, or a meal maker poisoning food?

Two Missouri women accused of poisoning family members with antifreeze are being held without bond….Both women are charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of armed criminal action.

They waived a reading of the charges Monday and entered not guilty pleas. A judge ruled that they will be held without bond until their preliminary hearing next month.

Diane Staudte’s husband died in April 2012, and her son died five months later.

Pretty scary, also sinister, since Ethylene Glycol, unlike most poisons which taste bitter, is sweet. Mix that with food and it can hide easily allowing for toxic amounts to be ingested.

But hey, a gun is WAYYY more dangerous! Somebody could have been KILLED if they had had a gun!!!

To Big To Fisk

Thirdpower links this inside look to the minds and strategies of the anti-rights cult.

I’ve almost finished reading it, and I suspect I might pull a few excerpts from it to play with, but REALLY it is Amazing.

Take this page:

#3:DON’T ASSUME THE FACTS – AND DON’T WAIT FOR THEM

Experience tells us that the specific facts of a high-profile gun incident are revealed over time. If we jump
to conclusions about those details, we could find ourselves at odds with reality as events unfold.
So, the smartest thing to do is avoid linking our message and arguments to any one set of partially-revealed facts. We shouldn’t assume the facts.
But, we also shouldn’t argue ourselves into inaction while we await clarity about details.
The clearest course is to advance our core message about preventing gun violence independent of
facts that may shift on us over time. (“While we don’t know the specifics of this tragedy, we know far
too many people are killed by weak gun laws in this country.”)
Of course, once a fact is clearly established, it makes sense to rely on it to advance your case

They aren’t even trying to conceal it. Avoid facts and logic, play on emotion, and dance in blood. There are a handful of foot-notes that appear to reference “Studies”, I haven’t checked those out, but about 80% of the book simply outright states “Facts” without attribution or support….which makes sense as many parts advise activists to avoid statistics and focus on loaded bleeding heart phrases like this one that has so far appeared TWICE in the pamphlet.

Just imagine the pain that a mother or father feels when their young child is gunned down.

Wow!

Still I suspect the foot-notes that ARE there are a who’s who of Bloomberg and Joyce Money funded “Studies”. This is quite impressive!

Well everybody, we have a reading assignment!

Good Job, Governor!

Florida Governor Criticizes Jesse Jackson

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is sharply criticizing Jesse Jackson over comments he made while joining a Capitol protest.

Jackson spent time this week with a group upset with the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. They’ve refused to leave the Capitol until Scott calls a special session and asks legislators to overhaul the state’s self-defense laws.

Scott so far has refused the request…..Scott in a release blasted Jackson’s comments as “reckless” and “divisive.” He says that Jackson should apologize for his remarks, which he also called insulting.

Good, don’t stand for the race baiters, and don’t let them get away with their actions simply because of political correctness!

“Gun Death” Modern Medicine

I’ll admit, there is a good deal of “Gun Death” in America. Even more than many other countries. Why? Well because we have a lot of gun here. This also means there are a lot of lives SAVED with guns. Its just the cost of doing business, and all research points that the cost is “well spent”. Still those who use the metric of “Gun Death” to push an agenda seem to think we must accept ZERO “Gun Death” and banning guns must be done until the impossible is achieved! Does that translate to other things?

Nearly 48,000 women died of prescription painkiller* overdoses between 1999 and 2010.
Woman shape with an upward pointing arrow
400%
Deaths from prescription painkiller overdoses among women have increased more than 400% since 1999, compared to 265% among men.

For every woman who dies of a prescription painkiller overdose, 30 go to the emergency department for painkiller misuse or abuse.

About 18 women die every day of a prescription painkiller overdose in the US, more than 6,600 deaths in 2010. Prescription painkiller overdoses are an under-recognized and growing problem for women.

Although men are still more likely to die of prescription painkiller overdoses (more than 10,000 deaths in 2010), the gap between men and women is closing. Deaths from prescription painkiller overdose among women have risen more sharply than among men; since 1999 the percentage increase in deaths was more than 400% among women compared to 265% in men. This rise relates closely to increased prescribing of these drugs during the past decade. Health care providers can help improve the way painkillers are prescribed while making sure women have access to safe, effective pain treatment.

Man, those numbers are really close to the 30,000 “Gun Deaths” per year, and when you factor in men into the equation it appears the number exceeds “Gun Deaths” by a fair amount.

But Progressives NEEEEEED their prescription medicines! Also with all the socialist medicine politics, they NEEEEED them to be paid for by the rest of us!

Can you imagine if gun owners were that brazen?
