Anti-Gun = Anti-Black

One thing the anti-freedom cultists get pissed off about is calling the gun rights movement a Civil Rights issue. They get upset at that because its true:

“The first gun laws were put into place to register black folks, to make sure that they would know who we were – that we could not defend ourselves,” Swimp said.

“I think if you look right after the Emancipation Proclamation – what was going on down in the southern states, it’s very clear that the Dixiecrats wanted to disarm black people to keep us from defending ourselves against the Klansman, who were murdering white and black Republicans to control the ballot box,” Swimp said. “So I think history is [rife] with examples. There’s a direct correlation between gun control and black people control.”

The gun control laws that banned or put restrictions on African Americans from owning firearms are documented on a timeline from 1640 to 1995 by the National Rifle Association’s Institute of Legislative Action and can be found here.

Another one here:

Parker said: “Well, I’d say they need to revisit their history – black history, black slave history, black Jim Crow history — and they should visit the histories of other tyrant nations where we had people like Hitler and Stalin and Mao. Every single time there is someone who wants to take away all other rights of the people, the first right they take away is your right to bear arms.”

“I believe that the the Congressional Black community, or the Congressional Black Caucus is absolutely out of step with black America today on this issue,” Parker said….“That right to protect one’s life and liberty is a God-given right,” Blackwell said in a statement. “It is a gift from God, not a grant from government.”

All one has to do is look at the patchwork of gun laws in this nation to see that if you live in an area with lots of minorities, you’re more likely to be restricted in your rights to keep and bear arms. Also President Obama constantly talks about “Respecting the differences between urban and rural areas”….what do you think he means by that?

Toxic Mouse Drop!

On Guam!

Dead mice laced with painkillers are about to rain down on Guam’s jungle canopy. They are scientists’ prescription for a headache that has caused the tiny U.S. territory misery for more than 60 years: the brown tree snake.

Most of Guam’s native bird species are extinct because of the snake, which reached the island’s thick jungles by hitching rides from the South Pacific on U.S. military ships shortly after World War II. There may be 2 million of the reptiles on Guam now, decimating wildlife, biting residents and even knocking out electricity by slithering onto power lines.

My first thought was: “Will snakes eat a DEAD mouse?”

The strategy takes advantage of the snake’s two big weaknesses. Unlike most snakes, brown tree snakes are happy to eat prey they didn’t kill themselves, and they are highly vulnerable to acetaminophen, which is harmless to humans.

Interesting, I’ve never heard of a scavenging snake. Also this tid-bit is interesting!

To keep the mice bait from dropping all the way to the ground, where it could be eaten by other animals or attract insects as they rot, researchers have developed a flotation device with streamers designed to catch in the branches of the forest foliage, where the snakes live and feed.

Experts say the impact on other species will be minimal, particularly since the snakes have themselves wiped out the birds that might have been most at risk.

I’ll be interested to see if it works as well as they officials think it will.

Deep Sea Shark Camo

Neat article found by C90.

A glow-in-the-dark shark scares off predators with “lightsaber-like” spines on its back, a study suggests.

The research was carried out on the velvet belly lanternshark, a small species found in the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.

The scientists believe that while the light-up spines can be seen by larger, potentially dangerous fish, they are harder for the shark’s prey to spot….Until recently, little had been known about this species, apart from the fact that like many deep sea creatures it has the ability to glow – a trait called bioluminescence.

Previous research found that the shark has light-producing cells called photophores in its belly, and it uses this light to camouflage itself.

“Imagine you are below the shark, the shark is swimming and you have the light from the Sun coming down,” explained Dr Julien Claes, a shark biologist from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, and the lead author of the study.

“If you are just below the shark what you are going to see is a shadow. So imagine if the shark can actually produce a light, which is identical to the light produced by the Sun. Then the shadow of the shark is going to disappear.”

Making your spines glow further emphasizes why you’re not good food. Also generally making your body glow seems like a way to make you MORE visible…but not when your background is the comparatively brighter surface thousands of feet above.

Very cool!

More Dirty Cop Stories

Died in the back of a squad car:

An inquest jury is recommending misdemeanor charges against three Milwaukee police officers who ignored a suspect’s pleas for help as he gasped for air in the back of a squad car….The jury also found that there was probable cause that Williams — who had the genetic marker for sickle cell but not the disease itself — died of sickle cell crisis.

And Pittsburgh PD creating their own private security squads for shady business:

Pittsburgh’s mayor says the chief of police has stepped down a week after federal agents gathered boxes of records for police headquarters….Federal agents took records from police headquarters last week as well as the Greater Pittsburgh Police Federal Credit Union. City Controller Michael Lamb has also announced an audit of the force’s special events office.

Ravenstahl ordered a review of the police bureau on Feb. 8 after learning that Harper partnered with four subordinates to form a private security firm — including a man he promoted to commander.

Be safe out there!

“Gun Death” Botched Birth

This one just horrifies me:

A Missouri obstetrician separated a baby’s head from his body during delivery and then shoved the newborn back into the mother and performed an emergency C-section to cover up the ghastly blunder, a couple claims in a lawsuit…The delivering doctor at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Gilbert Webb, refused to perform a C-section and “would only agree to deliver her baby by way of attempted trial of vaginal delivery,” the complaint said, according to Patch.

Webb refused to allow them to go to a different hospital, and “Betts consented to a trial of vaginal delivery under duress and protest,” the complaint said.

During the birth, the boy’s head breached, but the rest of his body got stuck in the birth canal, the complaint said.

In an attempt to pull the boy loose, Webb applied traction to his head and “separated (the boy’s) head from his cervical spine,” the complaint said.

Blood “shot out” from the newborn’s neck in full view of his parents, the complaint said.

Oh my GOD that’s horrible!

Yeah, that’s all I have for this one….

Metrocon Vs. Libertarian

I’m not a fan of Ann Coulter:

While there is technically an “R” after my name when it comes to my direct political affiliation (I personally should change that to a more appropriate “I”), I must say interviews like this show that I have as much politically in common with Coulter as I do with Barny Frank or President Obama.

I love how Coulter claims to support Libertarian points, so long as we get rid of big government….while supporting big government so long as its Republican big government.

Her contempt for freedom is no better than the “Progressives”.

Arming Teachers

Awesome!

A group of teachers in a Florida suburb are receiving free weapons training classes for free

First up, I want to know what School of Journalism School the reporter went to who wrote that line, as well as the editor who let that get published. Still this is a great thing. Even with the federal law about guns in schools still in effect, this is the best way to raise awareness of the problems. Ignorance is the biggest problem, and many teachers, staff and administrators in schools are ignorant on guns and security, and through that ignorance, support the idea that somehow a sign on the side of the school might prevent violence.

“I’ve been kind of skirting around the issue of getting a gun again and this opportunity came open,” Oak Grove (Clearwater) Middle School teacher Terri Cunningham told FOX13 News. “I decided it’s free; don’t turn down anything that’s free.”

The class, which normally costs $75, was offered with a discount because of the apparent growing interest in concealed carry permits among teachers in the wake of the Newtown shooting.

Lenny Bogdanos, who works for International Executive Protection, told FOX13 News that ,”if you’re educated and trained properly then you’re going to understand how the weapon works, you’re not going to be afraid of it and you’re going to control the weapon instead of the weapon controlling you.”

I couldn’t say it better!

Also good to see in the picture the trainers are using suppressors in the class. This is another stupid gun law that needs to be struck down. Suppressors are awesome training tools, and hardly deserve the vilification they’ve received in this country.

More Anti-Women Anti-Freedom

Just watch this stupidity:

First up the whole “Drunk Fraternity Members packing heat” argument just shows ignorance of the law. Sorry you can’t carry a gun while drunk. Period, full-stop. Its illegal. Either you think laws work or they don’t. If you’re worried about college students illegally carrying while drunk, then they’re probably illegally carrying while on campus too.

But just listen to that loud THUD as every jaw drops on the panel when he claims that rape on college campuses is rare.

Also I don’t know about other campuses, but while in my college days I read about a number of “Date Rapes” on campus that involved some very high-risk scenarios, and VERY ambiguous circumstances, there were quite a few…as Whoopie Goldberg so “Progressively” called “Rape Rape”, as in a dude ambushing a woman outside and sexually assaulting her.

I must link to Jay’s great roundup of “Progressive” Misogyny, and note the total lack of media outrage about these horrible backwards statements. Todd Akin became a national outrage when he talked about “Legitimate Rape” and Pregnancy, and rightfully so, but these people seem to be getting a free pass. It seems that when it comes to the media Party always trumps women’s rights!

Also a great read is S.E. Cupp’s take on this issue.

Colorado Democratic State Rep. Joe Salazar said on the floor of the House that I should, apparently, buy a rape whistle. Why? Because as a woman, I can’t be trusted to shoot a gun. I wouldn’t encourage any would-be attackers out there to test that theory with me.

As a man, I am perfectly comfortable for every law abiding woman being a deadly threat to any man who wishes to take physical advantage of her. What side are all these “Progressives” on?
