@ Work

Well it appears this latest illness is progressing quickly, so I’m at work.

We’ll see how this goes, but I suspect I’ll be making it an early night at best!

Meaning of the Word “Progressive”

Hypocrites in Public office!

More than a decade ago, Ray Nagin was elected mayor of New Orleans on a vow to root out corruption in a city plagued by decades of it. On Friday, the former mayor was indicted on charges he lined his pockets with bribe money, payoffs and gratuities while the chronically poor city struggled to recover from Hurricane Katrina’s punishing blow.

The federal indictment alleges that city contractors paid Nagin more than $200,000 in bribes and subsidized his trips to Hawaii, Jamaica and other places in exchange for his help securing millions of dollars in work for the city.

The charges against Nagin are the product of a City Hall corruption investigation that already has resulted in guilty pleas by two former city officials and two businessmen and a prison sentence for a former city vendor.

And what group is he a member of?

Seems that “Progressives” always speak out against despicable behavior that they personally partake in.

Weapons of War

Cuomo to exempt police from gun ban:

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office is working on amendments to clarify the newly passed gun-control law, following complaints that it did not explicitly exempt police officers from a ban on high-capacity magazines.

The state law bans magazines over seven rounds — police officers typically use magazines that hold twice as many bullets. Critics of the law claimed the alleged oversight was a product of the haste with which the package was passed through the legislature.

“This could have been avoided,” Republican Assemblyman Al Graf told FoxNews.com.

However, Cuomo’s office insists police officers are still exempt.

“Police officers possessing ammunition clip with more than seven bullets are not in violation of this law and they never will be, period,” Cuomo spokesman Matthew Wing said.

They keep banning guns and magazines in the name of safety, and claim that certain guns are only useful in violent crimes. Yet police get to own them. What use to police have for them? If you say to fight back against heavily armed criminals. First, how common is that? And Second, why do we have SWAT teams with full military hardware?

The real answer is that police carry guns for the same reason everybody else does. To protect themselves, and others around them. In the event they’re facing a serious fire-fight their sidearms and rifles are to protect themselves until the SWAT team can arrive.

If these are “Weapons of War” that need to be taken off our streets, why are the anti-gun people putting them specifically on the street?

Euthanasia

Human euthanasia is a very controversial subject. Thought I’d share this story to see what you all think about it.

Distraught about going blind, 45-year-old deaf twin brothers from Belgium chose to be euthanized because they couldn’t bear not to see one another, according to reports from Flanders.

Marc and Eddy Verbessem of Putte died Dec. 14 by lethal injection at Brussels University Hospital. Voluntary euthanasia has been legal in Belgium since September 2002.

The doctor who presided over the euthanasia described the twins as being “very happy.”

This is an interesting story, as the “Suffering” of the twins wasn’t the usual nightmare that many people go through with terminal illnesses. I’ll just say from a personal level that I have some relatives who had, or currently are fighting some horrible illnesses, where there is a lot of suffering involved. If we have a pet that gets as bad as they are, we don’t hesitate, we have them put to sleep, and we chastise people who wait too long for prolonging the suffering unnecessarily.

Now back to the twins, they were both born deaf, and they were faced with losing their sight. I must say, that’s a difficult way to live. Sounds like they own a business and have managed to be productive members of society, and are happy, but how would they be if they can no longer see or hear the world around them?

Frankly, I think its their body, and their choice, and Doctor assisted Euthanasia can be far more humane, than more crude suicides.

What do you think?

The Police Will Be There

You don’t need a gun!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas 911 operator did not enter a call into a computer system that would have notified police and fire dispatchers of a mother and son trapped inside a vehicle in a pond, authorities said Wednesday. The woman died hours later, and her 5-year-old son was in critical condition Wednesday, police said.

The Little Rock operator who handled the call from 39-year-old Jinglei Yi has been placed on paid administrative leave while authorities try to figure out what happened. The operator has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

Yi called 911 about 8 a.m. Monday after her vehicle hit a patch of ice, went over a curb and ended up in the pond, Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said. A county dispatcher transferred the call to the 911 operator, who spoke with Yi briefly before hanging up and contacting an ambulance service.

An ambulance was dispatched a few minutes later to the west Little Rock pond, but police officers and firefighters weren’t dispatched until about a half-hour later — after the ambulance service called to verify that they were en route.

Really its turning out more-and-more the calling 911 in a time of need is rolling the dice. There are countless stories like this. This is why I carry a gun, because while I appreciate that the cops are here to help, and we have a 911 service, the only person you can depend on for your safety is yourself.

More Insurance Talk

They really need to think this through:

Gun safety in the home hasn’t been discussed much in the recent national conversation on gun violence, but the head of the nation’s largest homeowners and auto insurance company acknowledges that it could be.

Edward B. Rust Jr., CEO and chairman of the board of State Farm Mutual Insurance Co., said this week that gun ownership “could be among a multitude of things” considered among the risk factors used by insurance companies to determine the cost of homeowners insurance policies. “But,” he added, “whether someone owns a gun doesn’t necessarily make them a risk. . . . The bigger debate is, Are people competent in gun ownership?”

Rust made his comments following a panel discussion at a forum for property and casualty insurers held at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York on Monday.

I have a rider on my policy for my collection. I have a decent amount of guns, that would need to be replaced in the event of a robbery or a fire. Still is their sentiment even realistic?

Certainly negligent discharges aren’t that big a deal. A little Spackle, and some minor repairs, DONE! Also if you end up shooting your large-screen TV while “Dry” firing, is that even valid for a claim?

If somebody dies as a result of a Negligent discharge, or in the Connecticut story they’re stolen to commit a crime, that certainly doesn’t have anything to do with Homeowner’s insurance.

So what the hell are they talking about?

“Gun Death” Criminal Control

Yep, Guns are the Problem:

According to police, Smith is the man who chased down and repeatedly stabbed a woman Monday on a Dade City street….According to records, Smith has been in and out of prison most of his adult life.

Smith has a record dating back to 1981. He has been in prison four times, serving a total of 14 years.

He last served prison time from 1998-2005, when he was convicted of aggravated assault with a weapon out of Pinellas County.

Sean shows us with his aggregation that most of the violent crime committed in this country are already done by people who are KNOWN violent criminals. Sometimes with guns, sometimes without.

“Gun Death” isn’t a problem in this nation, violent criminals unsupervised on the streets are the REAL problem.

“Gun Death” Stabbing

Yep, we need to ban knives, obviously!

A 54-year-old Duluth man has died from severe stab wounds, and investigators are following several leads.

The man staggered to a neighbor’s apartment Friday night saying he’d just been stabbed and asking the neighbor to call for an ambulance.

Ban all guns, and it’ll stop “Gun Death”, right?
