A Big Reason to be Anti-Background Check

The anti-freedom-types are always asking why we wouldn’t want to pass laws requiring background checks for all firearms.

This is a HUGE reason to be 100% against that!

Sometime early on Black Friday, the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, went down and stopped all gun sales, Bangor-area gun dealers said.

High call volumes caused “intermittent outages” in the system, an FBI spokesman confirmed Friday afternoon….Those who want to purchase a gun in the U.S. must fill out and sign FBI paperwork. The gun dealer then calls NICS to see if the buyer is barred by federal law from possessing firearms.

“The message is they are going to be down for a few hours,” McLeod said at about noon Friday.

Black Friday sales played a role in the problems with NICS, the director of the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division said, responding to an email from the Bangor Daily News.

“The NICS has experienced intermittent outages today due to high call volumes,” Stephen G. Fischer Jr. said at about 2:15 p.m.

Lozier, who has worked at Van Raymond’s for more than a decade, said the outages cost him at least half a dozen customers by the time the business day was only half over.

“If we can’t call it in, we can’t sell a gun,” Lozier said. “It’s cost us some money.”…Another frustrating part of the FBI’s background check system, he added, is that gun dealers don’t know NICS is down until they try to call in.

“It’s happens every now and then,” Lozier said of the system being down. “And it doesn’t matter when it does — it’s an inconvenience.”

Yep, lots of gun sales on Black Friday like any other item, but with a single system handling all sales Nation-Wide (except for the few states that have their own individual systems…which have their own problems), means when it goes down EVERYBODY has to wait, or simply give up.

Sorry guys, but a right delayed is a right denied.

Also on a related note, January 2013 is when several of my carry permits expire. I got my paperwork in, but depending on how the delay hits me, it might mean a little wait before my new permits come in.

We’re talking about a THREE MONTH wait here, can you imagine the outrage if such a wait was for non-right permits like driver’s licensing, credit card renewals, or business licenses like liquor or other such things?

And the antis wonder why we push back!

The Dream

Had one of my re-occurring dreams last night.

This time I was going into my favorite gun shop, this time with a pair of guys I had just met who were getting into shooting. They went in before me, and I guess stumbled into a robbery. As I entered I saw one of my friends in the standard hostage position with one of the robbers screwing a gun into his ear. There was another robber there who appeared to be unarmed.

I had my hands up at shoulder height in the “Surrender” position as I noted who was armed, and who wasn’t…then did a LIGHTNING fast draw (oddly from my Dragon Leatherwork Flatjack Holster) and unsighted put the muzzle about an inch from the hostage-taker’s jaw and pulled the trigger. There was no visible bullet impact, but the guy DID drop his gun and guard, so I gave him a few more in the head and he dropped. Meanwhile his buddy closed in on me and I ended up finishing up the magazine into his buddy’s head, again at near contact distance.

There’s the oddity of the dream. You can only really dream what you can easily imagine. I can dream doing a quick draw from any of my favored holsters (even tho I don’t often pack in the Flatjack), and I can imagine connecting a shot at about 4″ with one-hand.

But I’ve practiced all of those things. What I’ve never experienced, let alone practiced, is putting a bullet into a living head. I know from data that probably my little Beretta using standard .22 ammo will drop a man in his tracks with those shots, and certainly even cheap .45 ball ammo will do a man in at those ranges and hits.

But my mind couldn’t imagine it, so my dream went all crazy once those things happened.

Its just interesting what dreams tell us. For this it says in my personal life I will assume that A) I will be armed, B) whatever I’m wearing I’ll be competent with, but I’m not confident that my bullet will perform as advertised.

How about you?

Didn’t Belive it!

Dad sent me this email forward. It was loaded with junk information, but looking at the photos I didn’t buy it!

Hard to belive rescue crews would simply stand by a wreck on the edge of a massive cliff and NOT be wearing safety lines!

Guess its true. Maybe they’re first responders who can’t be bothered with such frivolities when lives might be on the line!

Thoughts?

“Gun Death” Employee Disarmed

Food Delivery driver, and Real estate agent are some of the most dangerous professions in America.

A pizza delivery man was stabbed several times while making a delivery in southeast Oklahoma City on Saturday night, police said.

Investigators said the 77-year-old Domino’s Pizza delivery man was stabbed at an apartment complex near Tinker Air Force Base at Southeast 48th Street and Sooner Road about midnight Saturday.

Police said the victim was stabbed several times while trying to leave after no one answered the door at the apartment.

In this case the driver is summoned to the chosen ambush point, and the attacker knows they will get a person with both cash and a vehicle. In the case of Dominoes, they also know that the driver is mandated by their employee to be disarmed.

Those who use “Gun Death” say that disarming employees makes us safer. That seem to add up that way to you?

“Gun Death” Pregnant Woman Stabbed

More “Progressive” Double-Standards!

A New York City woman that was eight months pregnant and was set to get married Sunday was found dead in her apartment, police and witnesses say.

Vindalee Smith, 38, was due to deliver a baby boy in two weeks and was stabbed to death in the neck, a source told the New York Post.

The Death isn’t relevant because its a “Gun Death”, and the dead baby isn’t relevant because it wasn’t born yet!

So no foul in the eyes of those who use “Gun Death”!

“Gun Death” Roaches

Yesterday you were eating turkey….not this:

Authorities say the winner of a roach-eating contest in South Florida died shortly after downing dozens of the live bugs as well as worms. The grand prize in Friday night’s contest was a live python.

Not sure what the exact cause of death was, but we KNOW it wasn’t a gun! SUCESS!!

Turkey Coma

Barron was talking about the “Turkey Coma” being the best sleep he gets all year. I never had such an experience, but I think thanks to the non-stop action of the last few months, a belly full of turkey knocked me right out!

I think my head hit the pillow at 8pm, and it was a bitch getting it back off this morning! Wew! I needed that!

Hope you all had a spectacular Thanksgiving!

Another Gun Control Sucess Story

Anti-Rights shills constantly say that gun control laws work. Take this post by Joan Peterson of the Joyce Foundation and Brady Campaign.

Now compare it with this story from Bloomberg’s Own Heaven.

We have a Ruger 10-22 and ammo (not super sure about the NYC laws, but given that 10-22s are considered “Assault weapons” in many “Progressive” dumps), it was cut down making it an illegal Short Barreled rifle. That’s illegal Federally, and I bet you can’t own an SBR in NYC, so that’s a crime too. Carrying a gun around loaded in NYC is illegal without an elusive permit. He also had a “bloody knife”, We know NYC has horrible knife laws, and this blade probably broke one or many of them.

Of course as what sounds like an honest-to-goodness serial killer. we’re looking at Murder in the First, which is one of the highest crimes in this country.

Meanwhile outside this case there are many places in NYC that are simply unsafe to go after dark, or if your skin isn’t an apropreate color.

So we have on one hand restriction of freedom that does NOT make us safer…and on the other we have more freedom and more safety.

What would you choose?

More Manufactured Problems

Interesting View from an anti-rights shill

Yes, I know that there is a contingent of folks who believe that any restriction of gun ownership is an attack on their liberty and constitutional rights, but guns on college campuses? When I was in college I could barely be trusted with choosing my major, let alone carry a firearm. So, despite the shocking amount of legislation that aims to ease gun restrictions on college campuses or forbid colleges from banning concealed weapons, I will simply choose to believe that most folks, even strong gun advocates, would not support policies that would allow students to carry guns on campus.

First up, false pretense. First up just because he’s an idiot doesn’t mean we all are (but “Progressives” always think they’re the upper echelon), but why are the guns different? I mean couldn’t he have stabbed somebody in his foolish youthful rage? Raped somebody? Swam to the bottom of the school pool and take a big deep breath? Of course, guns are different, because they are different. If we were to extend their “Logic” to real logic, College students can’t be trusted to leave their parents house, let alone live virtually unsupervised in dorms or off-campus housing!

Also note that just because you may have hit college just after high school, doesn’t mean everybody does. My Father-in-Law’s wife is graduating this December! It was a long-time wish of her’s, and we’re very happy for her. Also remember all those wars going on? This means colleges are flooded with 21+ Year old vets going to school on the GI bill. These are people who are trained and accustomed to carrying weapons.

Oh but the big elephant in the room. He puts up this image:

There are a bunch of states where campus carry is indeed permissible…have there been a rash of shootings there? How about the schools that don’t allow carry? Oh yeah, those are the places where the shootings have happened!

If he were a thinking man, he’d probably want his daughter going to one of those “Scary” Schools that don’t worry about lawful carry…he isn’t.
