Good Sign

I’ve always wondered about how China handles Communism. In Western nations the people eventually revolt when they realize they live in poverty and squalor, while the rest of the world (and the leaders of their own nation) live in relative luxury. Still the Chinese people have some cultural affectations that seem to make them not question it. I’ve worked with a ton of Chinese nationals who have come here for education and/or work, but dream of making their fortunes here and moving back to China.

Still Mrs. Weer’d sends me this story:

Like hundreds of thousands of Chinese who leave each year, she was driven by an overriding sense that she could do better outside China. Despite China’s tremendous economic successes in recent years, she was lured by Australia’s healthier environment, robust social services and the freedom to start a family in a country that guarantees religious freedoms.

“It’s very stressful in China — sometimes I was working 128 hours a week for my auditing company,” Ms. Chen said in her Beijing apartment a few hours before leaving. “And it will be easier raising my children as Christians abroad. It is more free in Australia.”

As China’s Communist Party prepares a momentous leadership change in early November, it is losing skilled professionals like Ms. Chen in record numbers. In 2010, the last year for which complete statistics are available, 508,000 Chinese left for the 34 developed countries that make up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. That is a 45 percent increase over 2000.

Interesting that the Social Services of the “European Socialist” Australia offers more benefits than the full-on Communist China. Of course when we talk about social services here in the US its really only the poor that lack (and even then they have cars, TVs, homes, and cellphones).

Maybe they’re finally abandoning the sinking ship…

Sounds Like a Good Way to Spend Election Night!

At a Gun Club!

Alabama Republicans plan to hold their election night party at a gun range, where participants will be able to shoot a few rounds as returns come in.

The state Republican Party is inviting supporters to the 52,000-square-foot Hoover Tactical Firearms for a “victory party” Tuesday night.

The suburban Birmingham business sells firearms and it has ranges where people can shoot their own guns or guns that are available for rent.

I think I’ll just be watching the news and talking in the Squirrel Report Chat, still burning some ammo is a nice way to pass the time!

“Gun Death” Magic Cards

I used to play this game back in the 90s.

Thirty-year-old Sean Dugas was brutally beaten to death by two players who were looking to obtain his extensive collection of Magic cards. An active player in the Pensacola area, Dugas had a collection that was valued between $25,000 and $100,000.

Now to add a personal twist I got rid of my collection about 10 years ago, I have just a few cards sitting here on my desk reminding me of that time of my life. I don’t think my collection was worth all that much, nor did I think the game was still popular enough, and still running the same collector’s market for a collection to be worth that kind of scratch.

Also I’ll point out my collection was technically stolen. A friend of mine (who I haven’t seen since) mentioned he was selling his collection. Knowing that cataloging and listing the cards for sale was a lot of work, I handed over my collection with the agreement that I’d pay him 10-20% (I forget the exact number) of the total sale price. He agreed, took my cards, and that was the last I saw of him. At best it was probably worth $1000, I really don’t care, and I write it off as a loss.

I happen to know where this fella lives, and I own lots of guns. If the whole “Gun Death” philosophy was true this guy would be dead now. He isn’t. In truth I’m not even bothered by it, as the cards would likely be rotting in a box, or destroyed by the flood we had a few years ago, so better somebody else has them than me.

Hey, but guns cause crime, and “Gun Death” is the only form of murder, right?

The Modern Nero

There’s the old story of Emperor Nero playing the fiddle while huge chunks or Rome burned. Seems Mike Bloomberg likes that history very much.

Borough President James P. Molinaro was the first to call on Bloomberg to cancel the marathon, saying that to hold it, with its staging are on Staten Island, would be “crazy, asinine.”

“Do you realize how many police officers you need for a marathon? There are people looting stores on Midland Avenue. There is looting taking place in the homes on the South Shore that were destroyed. That is where we need the police.”

But Bloomberg insists the marathon will not redirect focus from recovery efforts on Staten Island or throughout the city because he expects power in downtown Manhattan to be restored, free many of the police officers who are working there to direct traffic and otherwise deal with the outage.

Its also nice that Emperor Nero Bloomberg felt in the goodness of his massive heart to Disarm the people of NYC so that when the looters and rioters came to his subject’s homes and businesses they could simply lie back and think of him!

Oh yeah, he cares!

“The devastation that Hurricane Sandy brought to New York City and much of the Northeast — in lost lives, lost homes and lost business — brought the stakes of next Tuesday’s presidential election into sharp relief,” Mr. Bloomberg wrote in an editorial for Bloomberg View.

“Our climate is changing,” he wrote. “And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it may be — given the devastation it is wreaking — should be enough to compel all elected leaders to take immediate action.”

We Don’t Need Voter ID

Otherwise Hitler Wouldn’t be able to vote in Ohio!

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys, including Quarterback Tony Romo, were names that ACORN workers attempted to register to vote during the 2008 presidential election.

The ensuing outrage sparked a voter registration fraud scandal that helped lead to the activist group’s demise, and put new focus on the integrity of third-party voter registration efforts during Presidential elections.

Now, four years later, the name: John Adolf Hitler, was one of those turned in on a voter registration form collected by another group in Cincinnati, according to the Hamilton County Board of Elections.

“It’s certainly not a joke. In Ohio, that kind of activity is a felony,” says Alex Triantafilou, an Elections Board member who also serves as the Chairman of the county’s Republican party.

BTW have you noticed that only one side of the political spectrum is talking about this concern? Why is it “Progressives” aren’t worried about people voting multiple times? Is it maybe because they’ve taken steps when registering these false names to make sure the votes WON’T go to the “Wrong” guy?

Quote of the Day: Jason Kilgore

You got to love this Naivete/Stupidity!

As Sanghoee points out, our President has a real chance of changing the daily carnage of gun violence. The NRA knows this, and their efforts to arm everyone indiscriminately will be impeded. At last, pro-criminal efforts such as the NRA’s will be put to an end.

Yeah, because that social experiment hasn’t been totally put to bed.

Hey but maybe THIS time gun control will work, right?

“Gun Death” Another One-Punch

Seem to get a lot of these:

Police say one punch is all it took to send a 20-year-old Greenfield, Minn., man to his death, but investigators still don’t know why he was hit and they hope a $1,000 reward will help them solve the mystery.

Odd people use the metric of “Gun Death” like it requires tools to commit murder. This includes Joan Peterson of Minnesota who’s be silent about this brutal crime committed right in her backyard!

No gun, she doesn’t care! Classy huh?

Sane People Get It!

One of the saws of anti-rights people is the demonstration of “Need”. Now rightfully so, human rights have nothing to do with “Need”. I’m exercising my 1st Amendment rights right now, but do I really need a website or a computer to update it to say what I’m saying?

Still there ARE times when “Need” is VERY real, and Lee Doren points out that post-Sandy Anarchy in New York is EXACTLY when you NEED guns

Now I don’t NEED guns right now, but if I DO really need them its not like they will be available!

Terminal Ballistics

I’ve shot pumpkins with Mosin Nagants on many occasions. You can generally burn a whole clip on one and still have something to shoot at.

Now add expanding ammo to the mix!

That kids, is how pumpkin pie filling is made!

And it makes Joan Peterson cry!

(she’ll probably follow the track-back and no realize that Gun Geek is a Canadian Subject and has to submit to “Common Sense Gun Control”. Poor bastard needs to neuter his SKS rifles down to 5 shots!!!)
