More nasty weather to pile on the election!
Another messy — and wintry — storm may cause post-Election Day problems for an already weather-weary East Coast, forecasters say.
But meteorologists add that it’s six days out, so that’s rather early to get too worried. The forecast could change before it hits late next week.
Could make things interesting for the election. Low turnout, and possibly more avenues for contesting the outcome.
Be ready for it, and keep your powder dry!
I’ve traveled to a TON of islands in the Caribbean via cruise ships. Most are VERY dangerous places because of rampant poverty and inept police. Still some are safer than others, not that that means anything:
St. Maarten police on Sunday arrested a suspect in the slayings of a South Carolina couple whose slashed bodies were found in their beachfront condominium on the tiny Dutch Caribbean territory.
Police spokesman Ricardo Henson said the male suspect was arrested before dawn Sunday and has not been charged yet.

So refreshing to see clam, rational Libertarians running a campaign rather than the standard fringe anarchists.
Also gotta respect the 5% idea. Get that Libertarian party in the mix to fight against the big-government dogma of both the Democrats and the RINOs. Hell if they get 5% I wonder if the Republican party will survive much longer simply because like the Whigs and the Democrats in the 1850, the two-parties we have now are pretty much the same.
As far as Obama and Romney, I could care less which of them wins, they’ll BOTH be horrible.
Four men caught in a Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA) truck full of Romney/Ryan signs were issued summons for receiving stolen property early Friday morning in Perrysburg. Local police responded after residents reported seeing men stealing Romney signs in the middle of the night.
A Perrysburg Police incident report published by the Ohio Liberty Coalition listed four adult males: Corey Beaubien, Christopher Monaghan, Sean Bresler, and John Russell. The police report indicated the vehicle in question was registered to SMWIA Local 33 of Parma.
Unions, where the old Organized Crime families have gone.

During the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma, South Florida went through pretty much the same out-of-gas ordeal. In a rather heavily armed atmosphere the incidents of shooting each other for a can of gasoline were a big fat zero. There were a couple of fistacuffs that did not go far and that was about it. One thing you can bet in South Florida after a hurricane is that people will pack while moving around and long guns will be at the ready in homes almost everywhere.
Then again you never heard about generalized looting after Wilma (or pretty much any hurricane in the past 15 years because people here are armed and do not take kindly to looters or as they call them, “Moving Targets.” There were indeed a couple of incidents, but since people were taking care of their own neighborhoods, police was not spread thin all over the county keeping an eye on everybody, they responded quickly and arrested most of the offenders.
Police are PAID to do their jobs. In the end they’re just people like you and I, and when it comes to something REALLY danger they will look at the job, and look at the risk and make a call.
I did the same thing back when I was a fisheries observer. There were times when they asked me to ship out on boats that were noticeably unsafe. Now a week out to sea could net me a few grand in pay…it could also get me killed and leave that check to my widow. I’d have to make the call. Some times I’d look at the weather report and ask the captain where he was fishing, and I’d throw my gear over the rail. Other days I’d tell the captain that I was refusing the trip, and he could do whatever he wanted, and was off the hook on any obligations to let me on board. Hell I remember telling a captain I wasn’t heading out with him because some REALLY bad weather was coming and I wasn’t feeling right about it.
Now meanwhile take the armed citizen. They aren’t “on Patrol”, they aren’t even “upholding law and order”, they’re just living their life. When the storms hit, or the riots break out there are threats to their lives, and they don’t really have a choice weather to act or not.
Ladd of course doesn’t want to think about that. He’s a “Progressive”, he’s ABOVE those laws of nature and physics. If his little home in DC gets threatened by acts of nature or acts of feral humans, he thinks he can just call 911 and a bunch of total strangers will risk their lives to save his worthless ass!
How classy is that?

I must say, I don’t much care for Mitt Romney, but President Obama is a despicable American.
Some Cases are just too sick for words:
As police frantically worked to figure out how his fiancée’s 24-year-old daughter had vanished, a Michigan pastor who had turned to God to shed his violent past went to his flock with a request: pray for her.
But all along, authorities say, he knew the sordid truth about where the young mother was.
The pastor, ex-convict John D. White, later confessed to killing the woman to fulfill a fantasy of necrophilia, police said Friday. White drank four or five beers before going to the woman’s mobile home and repeatedly striking her head with a mallet and strangling her with a zip tie, according to court documents….He kept saying he’s a bad person, he’s a pastor, he felt bad for the people in his church. … I don’t recall him bring real remorseful at all with regard to the victim or anything else,” Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski told The Associated Press….Houghton said the congregation was aware of White’s criminal past when he joined the church. He was released from prison in 2007, after serving nearly 12 years for manslaughter in the death of a 26-year-old woman in Kalamazoo County, according to the Michigan Corrections Department.
He had previously been sentenced to probation for choking and stabbing a 17-year-old Battle Creek girl in 1981.
No gun anywhere in this story. Those who use the metric of “Gun Death” often ask “Why would you carry a gun in Church?”. The simple response is bad people can do violent things, and sometimes religious bigotry is a driving factor, or other times domestic abusers know when the object of their obsession will show up every Sunday morning.
In this case the monster was the man of the cloth himself, who the system was nice enough to release after repeat violent offenses and lenient sentences, and a congregation who trusted him despite doing things that none of them could ever have dreamed of.
I’ve never killed somebody, I’ve never choked and stabbed a teenaged girl. This isn’t just lack of opportunity, these actions are alien to me, as I’m sure they’re alien to most of you. They weren’t to this beast.
Even tho he didn’t have a gun, he was more dangerous than any of the armed people I know.

Violence that sometimes borders the University of Southern California crept onto campus when an argument outside a Halloween party escalated to a shooting that critically wounded one man and injured three other people and led administrators Thursday to reassess policies of the school near high-crime neighborhoods.
This was not only in Los Angeles, but on a State Campus where guns are FURTHER restricted, and campus has “Heightened security” after ANOTHER shooting.
Yeah that worked AWESOME, didn’t it?
Carry your damn guns people, because the only person you can depend on for your safety is yourself, and you are at a GREATER risk in a “Gun Free Zone” than you are outside one!

Two interesting stories. First Via Alan Rats flee the floods!
We were talking about it on last night’s squirrel report I suspect the report is fairly accurate. While rats can be considered semi-aquatic with their good swimming ability and affinity to water a storm surge flood of ocean water probably killed a bunch of them, and the ones that survived will THRIVE in the destruction that is New York City. What they got wrong was that rats can get WAY bigger than a pound if given ample food. We have rats in the lab that are north of two pounds and there is NOTHING special about them, they can get that big in the wild if allowed to!
But not all vermin are bad, and Sandy harmed them too!
Among the smaller but still important casualties of Hurricane Sandy were thousands of laboratory rodents, genetically altered for use in the study of heart disease, cancer and mental disorders like autism and schizophrenia, that drowned in basement rooms at a New York University research center in Kips Bay.
The collection of carefully bred rodents was considered one of the largest and most valuable of its kind in the country. The animals lived in colonies in the cellar of the Smilow Research Center, on 1st Avenue near 30th Street.
New York University medical and research staff worked furiously to protect their human patients — and others threatened by the storm — in all three of its facilities in Kips Bay. Though most of the animals at the center were unharmed, the center staff could not rescue the animals in one of the facilities, despite hours of work amid the flooding that started at the institute on Monday night….Lines of genetically altered animals, like brain banks, are painstakingly built up over time. But the mouse colonies can be restored, researchers said; many of the rodents lost in the storm have genetic relatives living elsewhere, and those animals could be used to begin the process.
Sounds like from this story they have embryos frozen in archives that can be put into foster mothers to re-derive the transgenic animals. Still depending on the size of the colonies lost this could set research back months or years.
Crazy! And of course many places put their animal facilities in basements because its easier to control light levels, but also to hide them from animal rights activists who’d rather we live in the dark ages of medicine rather than potentially cause pain to rats, mice, dogs or monkeys. Many places that keep research animals keep their colony location a strict secret just to prevent political action against them.
