Heart Video

Mike at ENDO has a neat video up

The Methodology is VERY sound, as ballistics gel is designed to simulate human tissue consistency (Its less dense than bone, more dense than fluid and adipose…it averages out, more on that later) and pig hearts are so similar to humans that we can even to limited transplantation between the species (no word if the patient dines on spareribs and bacon once they recover…but if its OK I’ll picture that, and request I not be informed otherwise!).

I’d say overall this experiment could be predicted in a human. Also I will note that such trauma to the heart would indeed cause catastrophic blood pressure drop (and potentially the damage would be MORE severe if the heart was beating at the time of trauma simply because the muscle tissue would be straining itself against the wound), of course predicting how such trauma would effect a hostile person, and the timeline for said effects. It will almost certainly be fatal.

That being said it doesn’t take THAT much trauma to have a heart catastrophically fail. There are plenty of stories of people meeting their fate when a knife tip or an ice pick find their heart or vascular tissue. Or to quote a great article here. (Well worth the read BTW)

Also, and I may be going out on a limb here, I’m not altogether certain that hardball is necessarily a bad choice for the reasons given above. Look, folks, you don’t have to blow the heart into a million pieces; you’ve just got to hit it, and you don’t have to make the liver look like it just spent 10 minutes in a Cuisinart. Again, you’ve just got to hit it.

Also from the comments over at ENDO Frank made this observation:

It doesn’t count unless there are ribs blocking the heart.

Kinda yes, and kinda no. As I said above Ballistics gel is designed to have an “average” effect on a bullet to what a bullet will find in a person. For example in a heart, the muscle wall is likely a bit tougher than the gel, but the blood-filled ventricles will offer much less resistance than the gel.

Still there are interesting effects caused by variation of tissue density. Stuff like a bullet deflecting off a rib, or deforming on bone and tumbling prematurely. Also a human body is resistant to through-and-through wounds as the mushroomed and much slowed bullet will often encounter much resistance in punching through the skin on the opposite side of the body. (think about cutting a tomato with a dull knife. Sure cutting the tomato isn’t hard to do, but STARTING through that thin, stretchy skin can be a lot of trouble)

The deflection issue is the #1 reason why I’ll always pick a slower, heavier bullet than a lighter faster one. Sure the light fast bullet delivers more energy to the target more efficiently, its also more susceptible to the random chaos that is flight and terminal ballistics.

Of course the key to all of this is make sure to land your hits when it counts, and where it counts, also what’s worth shooting once, is worth shooting twice…and what’s worth shooting twice….

Be safe out there, and all of this is moot if you don’t carry your damn guns!

“Gun Death” Boss

Can’t Compare Cars to guns, because “Progressives” drive cars!

A 21-year-old Pinellas County woman is facing a variety of charges including murder after she allegedly killed her boss, ran him over with his own vehicle which she then torched Saturday night.

We register cars…the car is registered to the victim. Yeah, well at least it wasn’t a “Gun Death” right?

I think its about time they quit using that term.

False Flag

So Gunnies have been trolled by an entity called “Smoke and Thunder” (follow the link to Miguel’s to see how nasty they get)

Alan uncovered that their blog re-directs to Joyce Foundation core, VPC!

This was one of my theories. Here at Weer’d world, I have my own “Rules of Engagement“, as much fun as it would be to go after trolls like Mike Bonomo (MikeB302000) Michael Bannerman (Laci the Dog), or Guy Cabot (Jadegold), among others, who the hell are they? They’re just losers with blogs. They have no influence, and they get no recognition. Its no different than if I were to interview a mentally ill homeless person for “Shocking Quotes”. Yeah they’ll say crazy stuff, they’re CRAZY!

Meanwhile people like Ladd Everett, and Joan Peterson are crazy, they’re also paid members of the anti-gun lobby! They ARE the opposition, and the reason why we still have pointless restrictions.

The core of those pointless restriction is pure myth. #1 Guns are Dangerous, #2. Guns Cause Crime, and #3. Gun Owners are Dangerous people.

#1, and #2 are quickly and easily proven wrong by crime data and looking at guns on a mechanical level.

#3 is their last hope, and look where they’re going:
Here, Here, here, and Here

These are paid Joyce foundation activists quoting random trolls as “Typical Gun owners”. Who are these people? Who knows??? Do they own guns? Who Knows??? What’s the value of the quotes? NOTHING!

So now it appears the Joyce Foundation has taken to stealing private property, and being antagonistic in attempts to push known and upstanding gun activists to do something rude, illegal, or dangerous.

Good luck with that!

Reasoned Discourse IRL!

So I’m listening to the New Penn Jillette Podcast (which hopefully will be streamed on the Adam Carolla App), and he was talking about this story

On Thursday’s edition, Tommy Smothers got very upset with Penn Jillette when Jillette uttered the name ‘The Smothers Brothers Show’ in the same sentence with ‘The Glenn Beck Show.’ “When you say ‘Glenn Beck’ and ‘The Smother Brothers’ I’m really offended,” Smothers said. “Because we never said things that were stupid and prejudicial and …”

Clearly, this was a sore spot for the very liberal Smothers, who’s always played it for laughs and rarely has shown his serious side. He just couldn’t understand why Jillette — whom he admired — would fraternize with the clearly very conservative Beck.

“You’re so intelligent and you follow this stuff and you go on there and you sit with Glenn Beck and you agree with that bull****. What the f**k happened to you on the way? Drugs?”

“I’m pissed off at you,” Smothers summed up.

Did that really happen? So Jillett, who’s a hardcore Libertarian and Atheist went on the Beck show to lend another view to an audience that may not have heard it before…and Smothers, who’s a Moonbat was pissed at him?

Seems that “Progressive” Reasoned Discourse exists even in real life!

Is it a wonder why almost all “Progressives” moderate their comments? You can’t even acknowledge that another side even exists…any wonder why?

The Pocket Nines!

Great Video! I must say I’m a big Kahr fan, as they make nice guns (and with the CM and CW line at a great price, my PM45 is the smallest, lightest .45 on the market, but compared to polymer striker-fired pistols, its SCARY expensive…stupid expensive when you take it apart and see how simple it is…but nobody makes an alternative, so the price is both fair and right by free-market standards, and I was willing to pay what its worth!) but its nice to see the flied getting more crowded.

Generally I don’t like the backup guns of yesteryear. The class was filled with 5-shot revolvers in .38 and .32 calibers, and pocket guns in .380 and smaller pistols. Now where 9×19 and .40 S&W backup guns are becoming more common, it seems that those who can’t conceal what is considered a full-size or Compact gun, people are getting better and better armed.

Also Destinee is really coming into her own as a new media gunnie!

BIG BUG!

Old fucker too!

A 27-pound lobster? Robert Malone went fishing for shrimp and pulled in a surprise: a 27-pound Maine lobster that could never be viewed as shrimpy.

The critter, caught in the vicinity of Rockland, Maine, was dubbed Rocky, reports the Associated Press. Of course, the size of the lobster’s fearsome claws also bring to mind the meaty fists of that boxer named Balboa.

Really big, really old, and totally nasty to eat, so good that it’s going to be studied.

Neat story!

“Gun Death” Cold Blooded Teen

Amazing that some people can be THIS broken.

Court records show Alyssa Bustamante entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of second degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in the October 21, 2009 death of Elizabeth Olten. She had originally been charged with first degree murder in the case…The defendant, who was 15 at the time of the murder, reportedly told police that she killed Olten because she just wanted to know what it felt like.

I can’t even fathom how a person could do that. Also I can’t imagine you can fix something so broken. Here’s the scary part:

The second degree murder charge carries a possible sentence of 10 to 30 years in prison.

Even if she gets the full 30, she’ll be 47 when she gets out…still plenty spry to kill again. Likely she’ll probably get 5 years and probation knowing what I’ve seen. She’ll kill again.

BTW what is MORE of a risk, being around this beast, or around somebody with a carry permit and a loaded gun?

The person, not the tool!

h/t Wallphone

PS: From Less this article

A U.S. teenager who admitted stabbing, strangling and slitting the throat of a young neighbor girl wrote in her journal on the night of the killing that it was an “ahmazing” and “pretty enjoyable” experience — then headed off to church with a laugh.

Wow, sick! You gotta imagine the Journal wasn’t a medium she expected to be read to the world, so I don’t suspect this was “Acting Out” or “Tough Talking”. This is evil, and evil in a young girl.

There are real monsters…

COME ON 2nd Amendment Foundation!

Just got off the phone with a caller from the 2nd Amendment foundation, she was talking again about the BS UN Gun ban Hillary Clinton is allegedly fixing to level against us.

Guess what jurisdiction the UN has with us? The same they have with 3rd World Dictators.

If the UN can’t stop people from hacking each other up with machetes what makes you think the Blue Helmets are going to take my FAL???

I love the 2nd Amendment Foundation and what they’re doing right now, but seriously this bullshit makes them sound like cranks.

Also BTW when I mentioned this to the nice lady, and pointed out that running a call center to call about such BS was wasting money….she kept to the script and asked for my donation.

Huhhh???

This is a phenomenon that probably “Happens” more than it actually happens. Cleaning a Gun when it goes off.

A grand jury has indicted a New Hampshire man on charges of shooting his wife in the stomach and legs through the wall of their bedroom while cleaning his gun…The Concord Monitor reports Hillson removed a 9 mm handgun from a safe and wiped it down on Nov. 13, 2011. The weapon discharged twice and the bullets hit Gina Hillson, who had a phone in her hands at the time and called 911.

Hillson, who has a military background, said he had never seen a gun discharge the way it had that night.

First up I bet most of the “Cleaning it and it went off” are people attempting to take down a Glock or similar gun (that needs the striker or hammer dropped by pulling the trigger) without properly clearing it, or somebody fiddling with a loaded gun and having a negligent discharge and claiming they were cleaning it because that sounds better than pulling the trigger on a loaded gun, or practicing their quick draw in their house with a loaded gun.

Still reading the very small amount of information Occam’s razor seems to point to his story. He shot his wife through the wall…that’s hard to do intentionally. There was a local news story when I was growing up where a man shot his wife while he was “Cleaning His Gun”. It was a straight shot across the room, and they were having martial problems, so people suspect it was murder, rather than an accident. This isn’t so simple.

Obviously the gun had to be loaded, and he claims he was wiping it down. Not smart to wipe down a loaded gun, but not unreasonable to wipe down say a carry gun before you put it away to discourage rust. Still if you wipe down a loaded gun, you can brush the trigger….if you do it with a rag the rag could bound in the trigger guard and cause the gun to bumpfire.

Crazy story, no matter what! Be careful out there!
