The Antis sure have a way of demanding things that don’t work as solutions to problems we don’t have. I found this “enlightened” article via the antis.
After all, the solution here is not rocket science.
Oh what are they?
We need meaningful background checks on all gun purchases — no loopholes. A mentally unstable man should not have legal access to a gun, period.
Well they mention Jared Loughner, who didn’t have any criminal records (because of lenient police action) who did indeed submit to a background check when buying his gun. Of course most criminal gun users are violent felons who steal or buy stolen guns. Places like here in Massachusetts where there are background checks on all guns (via a State-issued Gun Permit and state oversight) the criminals simply ignore that law too. Funny how that works.
We need to ban fully automatic weapons from private use. The hunter who needs a gun that fires hundreds of rounds a minute isn’t much of a hunter.
Something tells me that this idiot wouldn’t know what I was talking about if I asked him to explain the NFA or the Hughes Amendment. Also I love that these people are still talking about gun ownership as if it has ANYTHING to do with hunting.
We need to encourage gun safety classes so that poorly secured firearms stop ending up in the hands of little children.
Well first up children accidentally shooting themselves, and its not like this small number is non-existent in states that mandate such classes or storage laws, have any lower rate of accidents. Just look here in Massachusetts.
At the very least, we need to have a serious national dialogue about these and other possible solutions.
But we won’t. Too many on the political left still seem to harbor a fantasy of getting rid of all guns and refuse to distinguish between responsible gun owners and those criminals or deranged people who have no business with firearms. Too many on the political right still harbor the paranoid delusion that any talk of gun control is code for confiscation by jackbooted thugs riding black helicopters.
I kinda like how somebody who has NO grasp on the issue is now telling us how to better view the issue. This is why there is no dialogue. People who support gun control are either ignorant, or sinister, and they are WRONG.
What else do we have to talk about?

They actually said that. Oh they also said this:

Non-Partisan? Maybe in the 90s but are there any non-Lefties in the Brady Campaign anymore? I always assumed that’s why they fired Paul Helmke. He was a Republican, and they were losing ground, so they didn’t need his nominal “R” anymore.

I remember first meeting Dennis in New Hampshire when he was first hammering out his first holsters, and I won’t lie they didn’t look like anything special. Then I got my Flat Jack, hands down the best belt holster I own, and it’ll be a hard number to top.

Los Angeles police say a woman has died from her wounds following a shooting at a Thai restaurant in Hollywood. Her male companion was also wounded.
LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman said that the shooting at the Pink Pepper restaurant was reported late Friday night.
The motive for the shooting is not known, but KTLA reports that it appears to have stemmed from an argument on the patio.
Its nearly impossible to get a carry permit in Los Angeles County, they have severe restrictions on what guns you can buy, and the magazines allowed.
Oh and they also have laws against murder….
Almost seems from this angle that gun control does nothing but get people killed by leaving the bad guys armed and disarming the good guys.
Nah, the antis wouldn’t lie would they? Why would anybody willingly support policies and laws that get good people killed?

Now first up it is true that Oswald did order his Carcano rifle via an ad in the American rifleman when it was still legal to mail-order guns in America. (It was pretty common for people to mail-order rifles back in the day…as well as buy them in places you might think “odd” today like hardware stores, and department stores back then)
What they fail to mention is that JFK was an NRA life member and an avid collector and shooter. (BTW I JFK received the M1 mentioned via the Mail).
Also for those who follow CSGV who seem to enjoy calling anybody who owns guns an “Insurrectionist” and point fingers of “treason” to their political enemies….note Jack’s talk of civilian marksmanship for “national defense” and the “minuet man spirit”. What do you think Jack was talking about, Ladd?
This reminds me of the anti-rights attraction to Gabby Giffords. Sure she was a democrat, and she was shot by a lunatic with a gun…but she’s also a gun owner (Glock 19, same model as what Loughner had) and she had carried that gun for self-defense…but they assume she’d support any of their twisted ideas, just the same way they think the majority of Americans support their messed up ideals, despite any evidence to support that.

It started peacefully enough: A midday rally at City Hall and a march. But as the day wore on, Oakland was hit by the most turbulent protests in weeks as Occupy demonstrators clashed repeatedly with police, leaving more than 400 people arrested.
The demonstrations in downtown Oakland broke a lull that had seen just a smattering of people taking to Oakland’s streets in recent weeks for occasional marches that bore little resemblance to the headline-grabbing Occupy demonstrations of last fall.
That all changed Saturday with clashes punctuated by rock and bottle throwing by protesters and volleys of tear gas from police, and a City Hall break-in that left glass cases smashed, graffiti spray-painted on walls and an American flag burned.
Funny how all these protests end in violence. Also keep your eye on DC today.
Tensions between Occupy D.C. protesters and law enforcement increased Sunday afternoon with the arrest of a demonstrator and the approach of Monday’s noon deadline to enforce a ban on overnight camping.
Tempers flared about midday after police subdued a protester in McPherson Square with an electric shock. Several protesters accused the police of using excessive force, saying the demonstrator had been handcuffed by two police officers before a third used an electronic device to stun him.
When the deadline happens I suspect hell will break loose.

I know this sounds insensitive, but all I can think about is the game Clue. You know, Mr. Green in the library with a candlestick…
The Clue angle never occurred to me when writing that post, but Braden’s comment brought memories from my childhood back to me. My parents were avid Clue players, and I remember watching them and their friends playing the game at dinner parties when I was too young to play along. I also would take apart the game and play with the pieces on my own. I don’t think I played the game much how it was intended as its a very simple game and other games like Battleship, Chess, Stratego and Monopoly were really more my youthful board game interests.
Still I found this website that has images of all the paces from my parent’s 1972 edition of the game I really enjoyed the photographs, and the details of the metal pieces.
Still in the game the murder weapon could be one of these six, A Candlestick, a Knife, a Lead Pipe, a Wrench, a Rope, and a Pepperbox Revolver (evidently all editions before the 1970s one it was a semi-auto pistol). Now the knife is depicted in that version as a Medieval dagger which was a purpose-built weapon, and the pepper-box follows the same concept as any modern gun, granted pepper-boxes were notoriously crappy, compared to the M1911 that was featured in the first American edition of the game. Still from there the other items were things that I had access to as a young child. We had candle-sticks on the dining room table, we had rope galore in various places, we had various wrenches in the tool room and garage including a monster pipe-wrench like the one in the picture, and of course we had plumbing, not much of the piping was lose, but that’s pretty easy stuff to find around.
All of it can be used to murder in the game, and the only thing I really didn’t have a clear grasp of was the rope. I had heard of people hanging themselves, but I wasn’t clear that a rope can be used as a Garrote to choke somebody. Still besides the guns and knives the other items were impact weapons. Besides the gun, while the dagger is a weapon, the kitchen at home was filled with knives…and well I have a thing for knives so I have quite a few of them all over creation.
Now picture playing a game of Clue with somebody from the Brady Campaign, or a Joyce Foundation group, or some anti-gun troll. Do you think they could actually play the game correctly if the Pepper-box was NOT the actual murder weapon?
Could they admit that Col Mustard (a member of the military who has underwent an extensive background check) could have committed murder in the Billiard Room with a simple decorative candlestick? Could the esteemed Professor Plumb in their imagination have brained Mr. Boddy in the Library with a household pipe wrench?
I mean that isn’t “Gun Death”, and neither of those weapons were designed to kill.

Sorry Clue players, but unless the Revolver was drawn at the beginning of the game as the murder weapon, you really have no point to play the games, and all the party guests just should have ignored the corpse and went their separate ways.

A deranged Brooklyn mom fatally stabbed her 3-year-old girl in the neck and the face inside their apartment early Friday, police sources said.
Not only does NYC have strict gun control they have strict Knife control. No “Gun Death”, but maybe Mike Bloomberg will show his massive respect and call this a “Knife Death” and demand we more heavily restrict cutlery….I mean why would anybody need a knife. Oh yeah, even “Progressives” use knives to cut and prepare their food.
