Now Tam covers the whole thing on carrying in cheap holsters. I’ll also point out that if you’re going to be open carrying its a good idea to dress as professionally as possible. Keep the Camo and para-mil gear to a minimum, also if you’re going to be rocking the Batman belt with flashlight, OC, med kit and other useful tools, keep the poser shit behind like the CCW badge and handcuffs. Also keep your bat-belt kit organized, if you’re going to hang a ton of shit off your belt, look like its meant to be there and you know how to use it. And if you’re gonna wear a nice gun with a nice outfit put it on a nice belt and a nice holster.

Nope, this man is dead, his wife a widow, and his kids without a father because he was too cheap or stupid to buy a $10 cheap holster for what was probably a $300 gun carrying $10 worth of ammo.
My shoulder holster is a mass-produced unit so it is VERY low priced at $120 (really reasonable when you note it comes with a double-mag carrier) and I have a $700 gun stuffed into it, and $25 worth of ammo in $90 worth of magazines. If somebody showed me a carry rig that was better (even by a bit) than the one I have that was $300 or $500, I’d buy it. This is not a cheap hobby, nor is it a hobby without risks. You put your $80 stamp in a $2 collector’s book the worst you get is a ruined investment….you spare expenses and skip the holster you could be finding yourself bleeding out in your minivan. If you skimp and buy a cheap piece of crap holster you also might find yourself shot (If you’re lazy, it was a thin nylon holster that allowed a crease of fabric to depress the trigger) or fail to replace a warn holster. Heck a “Better” circumstance might be you chasing your dropped gun across a parking lot where people might notice and call unwanted legal attention to you. Is a $10 one-size-fits all nylon holster worth potentially worth losing your $100 carry permit because somebody called the cops when they saw you collecting and re-holstering your gun when it got drop-tested in the Mall Parking lot?
BTW I’m not talking about a $500 Milt Sparks rig here! Holsters are like guns, you can get a REALLY nice one for a LOT of money, but in the end the difference between “Good” and “The Best” is really academic.
This man’s life could have been saved by a $20 Galco Stow-and-Go holster. Instead of stuffing the Glock into his pants, he could have stuffed it in this inexpensive holster and into his pants. He wouldn’t to have needed to adjust his gun in the first place, and the trigger guard would be surrounded by leather…probably is a LOT more comfortable too.
Caleb and PDB talk a good talk about Blade-tech Kydex. Their products are just as reasonably priced, I see nothing wrong with Kydex, just leather seems to work very well for me.
Also pocket guns need pocket holsters! Pocket holsters are different as they don’t “Hold” the gun the same way a belt holster does, your pocket does most of the retaining (tho the holster can keep a gun from slipping out of a pocket say if you lean back in a reclining chair) but what they DO is keep crap that shouldn’t be in your pocket from fouling your gun, and keeps your trigger in the un-pulled condition until you have drawn it. I bought my Desantis Nemesis directly from the factory (because Midway USA hadn’t yet stocked the PM45 model) and I paid about $25 for it….Probably could have gotten it for $15 or less once Midway or another warehouse starts stocking it.
You don’t need to go buy a holster that costs as much as your gun…you don’t even need to buy a holster that costs half-as-much as your gun, but if you carry a gun you SHOULD carry it in a quality holster. This is one of those things you can’t be cheap with.
The American White Tailed Deer is the most deadly animal in North America. This is of course due to auto-strikes. But not always.
A Fort Wayne man was apparently killed Monday by a deer he’d shot during a cull at Chain O’Lakes State Park, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said….Tuesday, Smith called his son at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and left a voice message informing him that he’d shot a buck. Smith’s son returned the call at 10:30 a.m., at which time Smith said that, after descending his tree stand to tag the deer, he’d found the buck still alive and, in a scuffle, had dispatched it with a knife…A park employee sent to retrieve the deer found Smith unconscious and seated against a tree, DNR said…“The coroner’s autopsy revealed lacerations on Smith’s liver that were in line with internal bruising,” DNR said.
This is why many deer hunters carry a small .22 with them while they hunt. Not only does it give them a smaller piece to harvest small game or nuisance species, but also allows them to deliver a precise blow to the head from a distance in case the deer still has some good kicks left in him.
A shame this man died in such a way.
Not a “Gun Death” despite the hunter having a gun…but like many stories presented here a gun could have saved his life.

Now on a post where she equates gang crime with lawful carry, and calls an SKS an “AK-47 Knock-off” and an “Assault Weapon” (note not as a throw-away scare-term, but her screed goes on about the merits of the ’94 AWB that never included the SKS….), I’m sure it seemed “Sharp” or “Witty” to a woman who is likely the mental inferior to the bird we’re going to carve into on Thursday.
Yeah I have all these people who read my blog, and there are a jillion other blogs that spend their time talking about the merits of various gun type, the various ammo types, accessories, holsters, holster types, concealment methods.
It seems my blog gets several hits per day looking for information about shoulder carry because its both a slightly unorthodox carry method, and the method I prefer. I also get a lot of questions and mail about my Kahr PM45 “Eleanor” because a subcompact lightweight .45 ACP of these dimensions isn’t a common gun, and people are curious.
Its not easy to start carrying all the time, it takes a pretty solid effort. Also Joan must be well-aware from her constant lies, and twisting of the truth, that our choice to carry isn’t showing off, or even a fashion statement (BTW go check out my shoulder carry article…its a good rig, and I’m a huge fan of my S&W1911Sc with the Rosewood Slim-Grips. Its a nice rig, and I’m VERY happy with it, it was fun sharing Galco Miami Classic love with Nancy and Shorter Half at the convention, but overall it stays hidden.
Nope we carry because we’ve weighed the benefits vs the costs of carrying and have decided its smarter to carry. As much as your organization cooks up poor studies to say otherwise, asking us to “Try going gun-free” is like asking Joan to try driving across her state for the Holiday without a seat belt and the airbags disabled. Its just a stupid idea…and she knows it.
These are the people who support gun control. I get that the cause is dying HARD, but really with stupid and lies like this, I’m insulted they have the credentials they do.

The vote went for the Hated Bush, and four years later Barack Obama became our President. Do you have some sort of magic decoder ring that tells you that Romney will nominate 2nd A friendly judges. Certainly his history doesn’t indicate this. And some of the worst judges on 2A issues have been nominated by Republican presidents. Warren, Burger, Stevens, Souter. Obama is a problem but the problem is the lack of a real conservative party. Romney’s nomination will just lock this problem into stone.
“Maybe a Conservative Justice” doesn’t seem like a just reward for electing the monster that is Romney, nor the Old Guard Authoritarian Gingrich.

The Kill the Jews camps have hurt the average people living and working in the city, while doing little to nothing to the “Rich 1%”, and when a wealthy celebrity comes down to the camps to express “Solidarity” they glad hand them, while the harass the parents trying to send their kids to public school.
Steven Bates was in jail serving a sentence for robbery when his mother died from a drug overdose in March last year, a District Court judge heard yesterday.
An approach was made so authorities would release Bates to attend the funeral of his mother, Louise, but it was rejected.
When Bates was released from jail, he made an approach at a birthday party to a man suspected of supplying drugs to his mother and said: “Have you got something to say to me, bro?”
The man said he had nothing to say and several hours later Bates, 21, inflicted a knife wound to his neck.
So we have a robber son who’s doing time in jail. We have a Mom who dies of an overdose. We have a system that thinks there are reasons to let people out of prison. We have a drug dealer attending a party.
We also have a country (Australia) that heavily restricts firearms and blades.
And we have a dead drug dealer from knife wounds.
Could they have expected anything different?
Of course Australia has a very low “Gun Death” rate. Doesn’t that make it sound nicer?
The Matrix was an extremely popular film, and I suspect just about all of us have seen it, and I would be surprised if any of us didn’t love it.
Now as a film buff I always think of Dark City, and The 13th Floor as similar films that were released at a similar time with a very similar overall plot point: The Existential world pulled over our eyes to conceal a hidden truth from us. I personally think that those other two films present the subject in a more artistically interesting, while Matrix is more of a standard Hollywood action film. Of course the action and the special effects have a better appeal, but I think there is one other thing that makes The Matrix stand out to the audience. How the truth is presented to the protagonist.
Its served straight-up. Take the red pill and you agree to see the truth, but the blue pill is the status quo and acceptance that the lie exists, but you choose ignorance.
This is later revisited with the mole Cypher who is regretting his decision.
This presentation has universal appeal. First it offers some great fantasy escapism, as Neo is nobody special, and The Matrix is such a good copy of our world that indeed you could be living the lie right now, and we can all see ourselves as Neo sitting at his soulless corporate job.
And while Cypher presents a very good argument about wanting to be ignorant of the grim future, how many of us really wish for ignorance? Do you really wish Santa Clause was real? That a loved one never told you they were terminally ill? That they made two other Matrix movies?
Sure we wish for a nicer reality, but we NEVER wish for ignorance.
And of course the tale of a hero discovering they were living a lie is a VERY common theme in literature as well as film.
While I imagine discoveries of lies of theatrical proportions are VERY rare, its not uncommon for somebody to uncover a massive lie. For me it was gun control, which I supported and thought was a great idea…until I started looking into the issue objectively.
The inspiration of this post is this speech by Dennis Henigan, when I first started watching it I was thinking about fisking the speech. Only it didn’t take me long to realize that besides his name and his job title everything he was saying was a lie.
Well straight-up blatant lies, Half-truths, and smatterings of “studies” his group conducted for the expressed purpose of having a “Study” that stated gun control worked.
The real human nature is no different than the fictional reaction in books and film to discovery of a big lie. Rebellion!
I began supporting gun rights, as well as confronting my former allies. The more I fight the less I doubt that my change was a good idea.
Linoge points out that because of the internet both sides are readily available to anybody interested. Back in the 90s the anti-gun talking points were being sent into my home on every news station. I couldn’t tell you how I could find a pro-gun publication. Certainly it would take a very strong level of determination.
These days I encounter VERY few people who are like myself. Good-natured, but ignorant on the issue. Most of them are the true believers, and those who are paid to agree with the anti-gun position.
That isn’t very surprising.
I don’t get paid for what I do, but I’m glad to be on the correct side of the issue.
Now that’s pretty cool. Obviously defensive, military, sport, and food-harvesting applications are where guns shine.
Can’t find any Navy or Coastguard training videos, but I know they still throw lines with guns, essentially using a Monkey’s Fist as a modified rifle grenade.
Guns are tools, some less mature people may not LIKE the jobs they’re good for, but that doesn’t make them any less tools.
Bubblehead Les sends me this story of a home invasion.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Four men forced their way into a West Side home Thursday night where they beat and threatened a young couple before stealing $250…The intruder pulled a gun and demanded to hear from Reyes where money was.
Reyes managed to wrest the gun out of the man’s hand, but the intruder soon got it back and pointed the gun at Reyes’ chest and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed. The robbers then beat Reyes into unconsciousness and stole $250 from his wallet.
Good on Mr. Reyes for fighting back, it likely saved his life. But the gun you should have is YOUR gun not the gun the intruders brought with them.
Also when people say “The money in your wallet isn’t worth your life” they rarely think about the thugs who are more than willing to kill you for your money.
Kill them over your life, and to show them that violent crime is NOT tolerated in American society, but self defense is!
