Every Day No Days Off has this great video of the FN FAL from the perspective of a Call of Duty fan
As I’ve said before with some deserved controversy I’m not a fan of Full-auto in an infantry rifle, and even without the bullshit of the NFA I’m perfectly comfortable with my go-to rifles not having the full-auto switch (tho I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a select-fire gun if all things were equal) and not worrying about the controlability of a light rifle on full auto, I’d prefer a full-power cartridge over the more in-vogue intermediate “Assault Rifle” cartridges, such as the 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm, and their variants.
Yes I know there are lots of people who have fallen in war from shots fired from 7.62x39mm and 5.56x45mm rifles, and I also know several people who have bagged Northeast White Tailed Deer (about as close an analoge to size and weight of an adult man) with AKs and AR-15s, and Mini-14s, and I know of many more. Still the Bubba’s around Maine and Vermont seem to like .308 Winchester, and .30-30 WCF, as well as the venerable .30-06 for dropping bambi, and certainly many of them have stories of tracking a deer with its vitals perforated for long distances in dense woods from one of these rounds.
So couple that with the weight and ergonomics of the FAL, its my choice of a go-to-rifle!
Now if only my state would allow me an 18″ Paratrooper rifle. 🙁
My only complaint is they don’t mention DS Arms being a modern company that still makes the FAL pattern rifle, so you can still get one today without having to look for surplus or parts kits!
President Barack Obama’s alleged illegal half-Uncle Onyango Obama, 67, who is likely known as Uncle Omar as well as Obama Onyango, was arrested for allegedly driving drunk in Framingham, Massachusetts outside of Boston. Additionally, he is being held for deportation just as President Obama’s Aunt Zeituni Onyango had been ordered to be deported in 2004.
Of course Aunt Zeituni (who lives on public assistance, and public housing as an Illegal Alien of this country) now has Political Asylum for reasons unclear to me. This article says “Violence in Kenya”, which simply says if your nation of origin is a shithole, like most of the world is, you can get US Political Asylum. (of course being related to the president has NOTHING to do with it). Of course Barry Socialism has no desire to actually HELP his relatives get off the public tit with, I dunno, those books Bill Ayers wrote for him.
Still in Mass was this story that Jay reported (I thought about scooping him on it, but frankly it made me so angry I couldn’t find the words).
But outside the sensational stories, this is not an isolated event. There is a local radio host who simply reads off the local Police Blotters in the paper reading off all the South American names cited for driving without a license, insurance, registration, false license plates, and often driving while intoxicated.
Its simple, first these people are violating federal immigration laws, which is a good litmus test to see if they respect the rule of law or not. Then for them to find work, and apply for public assistance they need to falsify an identity or commit identity theft to assume a “Legal” identity.
But then when they get caught doing something illegal they simply pay their bond, and dump their current Identity and slip into another.
This story got a lot of play when Martha Coakley was running against Scott Brown for the Senate Seat vacated by Ted Kennedy. Of course the man who was molesting the little boy vanished into the Ether, nobody knows where he is, and he never faced charges.
I know a guy who’s car was totaled late at night by who we assume was a drunk driver. The car was parked, and a witness got the make, model and license plate of the car. The cops ran the plates and found they matched a totally different car. The driver was likely an Illegal alien, and will never get caught, and of course probably doesn’t have on-paper funds to cover the wreck anyway.
And all of this is a big middle finger to the LEGAL immigrants who did the right thing and legally came to this country. Of course the apologists claim people who are against illegal aliens are xenophobic, as they give the finger to the people who obey the law.
A man who bludgeoned a grandfather to death with a hammer and seriously injured his de facto wife has pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental impairment.
Can you imagine how much it would cost to build something if hammers were regulated the same way guns were? Hey but not a “Gun Death”, which of course is a valid metric, right?
So it looks like the worst of Irene has passed over. The street flooded a bit, but nothing serious. I went into work at about 0900 and nothing bad had happened in the night. Saw a bunch of branches down, and one tree that had tipped over.
We lost power twice…for about an hour each. I had to cut short a game of Call of Duty, and light the burner on the stove with a match to heat up some soup for lunch.
I was just checking out my yard and my Neighbor said “hi”. I said “STORM OF THE CENTURY!!111!!” she said that she wished they were all this wimpy.
So there you have it. Irene didn’t amount to shit.
Hope everybody else weathered the storm as well as we did.
Doesn’t say the weapon, but its pretty hard to decapitate somebody with a gun.
A 7-year-old boy with cerebral palsy and other disabilities including not being able to speak was decapitated, and his biological father has confessed to the killing, police in Thibodaux, Louisiana, said Monday.
The child’s head was found Sunday by the side of a city street, detective Ricky Ross said.
Totally sick story. But no guns were used, so we can disregard, right?
Now I’ll say I am not a Glock fan, personally I don’t like their grip angle, how boxy and heavy they are for the size gun they are, and I don’t like that they have unsupported chambers.
Now all of those above things are my personal observations, and really only have a bearing on me and people like me. I know lots of people who carry, use, and shoot Glock pistols, and I can’t fault them a wit.
Still there has been a bunch of chatter about the Gen 4 Glocks having some reliability issues. Hickock notes this saying his Glock 19 Gen 4 needed some breaking in before it became reliable.
Still it looks like this 21 runs like a champ, so maybe the rumors of Glocks demise are greatly exaggerated.
So here I am watching this video by Hickock45, wearing shorts, t-shirt, cover shirt and my 1911.
Great video, watch the whole thing, Hickock knows his shit, and is just a wizard with a pistol.
As you know I’m a strong subscriber of the “Carry all the time” philosophy. If I knew when I’d encounter trouble, I simply would avoid trouble and go about my time care-free filled with bliss.
I have been in situations where suddenly I was VERY glad to have a gun on my person, and never expected that time and place to be a place where things might get a little scary.
Now the old adage goes “Nobody wishes they had a smaller gun or less ammo in a gunfight”. So it goes without saying that not only should you carry your gun at all time, you should carry the BIGGEST gun, and as many reloads as are practical as often as you can.
There are some times where it just isn’t practical or convenient to carry the big gun. And at times I mean simply convenient. If I’m outside in the heat for the better part of the day the straps of my shoulder holster collect sweat and heat, and the cover garment doesn’t help anything. There are times when I may have been perfectly dressed for concealment, but decided to take off the gun (Like when I change into my workout clothes and exercise), and then decide I need to run in town for an errand, or to pick up a pizza to negate said workout. I may not want to throw on my whole heavy rig for a 5 min outing.
Don’t make yourself miserable trying to be the ultimate ninja. Just note that if you CAN carry more gun, maybe you should.
So this summer I’ve tried to carry my 1911 every day I could. You may remember this post where I discussed my summer carry method for my 1911.
I first had some apprehension, say at carrying at work. I thought that maybe the shirt would look a little strange, or maybe the gun would print JUST ENOUGH to tip somebody off.
Still I pushed that comfort a bit. I’ve been carrying in this method for several years now, and with a properly sized and cut shirt is isn’t an issue so I took a chance.
Not only do I have the added comfort of knowing I’m carrying my trusty .45 with me, as well as two easily accessed reloads, but now I have a nice pocket for my phone as I listen to podcasts while I work!
So if you’re only carrying a smaller, weaker gun, see if you can carry a bit larger a gun, and see if you can work a reload or two into your outfit.
Also if you don’t live in a hostile carry environment like I do, maybe you should give open carry a try.
Push your comfort zone a little, and you’ll be surprised at how much territory you can claim as “Comfortable”.
Not only will you be prepared to protect your lives and other, but you’ll be happier while you do it.
And of course if you push your limit and find you don’t much like it, you also learned something about yourself. Certainly comfort and convenience are a MUST for every-day-carry.
Again Kids aren’t very resilient creatures, so its not like you even need a firearm to commit murder.
A 43-year-old Missouri man told police that he suffocated his 3-year-old neighbor with a plastic bag, then stuffed her body in the same bag and tossed her from a highway, according to a court document.
A disgusting tale. Would it have been worse if he had used a gun?
