Just thought I’d take a quick look at this local crime:
A Revere man pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges he shot and killed a Reading man inside the victim’s home last week in what Middlesex prosecutors called a drug-related dispute.
John Burke, 25, appeared in Woburn District Court to face charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, the gun allegedly used to shoot 22-year-old Joseph Ronan three times on Aug. 15 inside his family’s home on Lawrence Road in Reading.
So first up the men’s town’s of Residence are Revere and Reading Mass. I will note that both towns are towns difficult to get a Mass Carry Permit.
You can GET a permit, and buy and own guns in these towns, but to carry the gun around it needs to be unloaded and locked up.
But this guy simply was carrying the gun loaded, which is illegal, also he didn’t have a Mass gun permit. No word on how he got the gun. I’m guessing he stole it.
Illegal, Illegal, Illegal.
Note there was also an exchange of drugs going on. Illegal.
And there was murder. Illegal.
Even worse, this guy was shot over two Percocets!
Do I need to get into the fact that you can’t discharge a firearm in a residential area in Reading?
Now the anti-gun people use the metric “Gun Crime” and “Gun Death”, and use them in ways to promote tighter restrictions of gun control.
So we have Illegally carrying a firearm. Possession of a firearm without a permit. Illegally discharging a firearm. Possession of a prescription medicine without a prescription. And Murder.
Furthermore the murder was over TWO (2!!!!) painkiller pills!
Care to share with me what good gun control laws do, and care to share with me the law that would have prevented this?
Of course those laws do make my day-to-day life a pain in the ass, but at least I have the satisfaction that they save no lives, and prevent no crimes!
I’ve written about this asshole before, because he still hasn’t been caught by Boston Police, despite this guy doing his attacks in the same relatively small area year-after-year.
The big thing that gets me is the woman-on-the-street interviews.
-They’re Afraid
-They say “This Could Happen Anywhere” (that’s true)
-One woman is thinking about getting Mace: (Will it even work?, and if it DOES work, will the person it works on be yourself? Also I suspect this woman has no idea she needs a Firearms Identification Permit just to buy and carry pepper spray and mace)
-They consistently say “Don’t travel alone at night”.
Yep YOUR freedom should be heavily restricted, and you should be in fear because the cops can’t catch this guy.
I would say “Carry Your Damn Gun”, except this is in Boston’s North End. Unless you have connections to state workers, or enough money to bribe your way into the inner circle, you will never see a carry permit as a Bean-Town resident.
You know what you’ll see? Another woman groped in the North End, and probably somebody raped.
That’s how gun control works! Anti-Gunners, you should be proud!
Two teen runaways from a Sanders County boarding school were charged with battery with intent to commit robbery after they attacked a 66-year-old northern Idaho woman who offered them a ride.
Of course the most popular version was the one made by The Animals, catchy, but never manages to excite me more than a little.

They had the brilliant idea of taking the Van Ronk et al chord progression and rhythm, and sing Amazing Grace over it. Makes for an interesting contrast given that House of the Rising Sun is about corruption and downfall, and Amazing Grace is about redemption.

Getting things in order from my vacation I stayed a bit later in the lab, this means traffic was tenfold than my normal commute.
So I had just pulled out of the parking lot when I came to a miserable intersection. It really needs a traffic light, but it only has a stop sign onto a busy through street. I needed to make a left. There was a cyclist who was off to my right side who I assume was attempting to do the same thing.
Just as I saw an opening the asshole decides he’s sick of waiting to cross and decides to head up the road to my left to where there’s a pedestrian crossing with a pushbutton crosswalk.
Tires screeched, but I didn’t hit him…as much as he would have deserved it. Thankfully the oncoming traffic was so gobsmacked at this suicidal creep they just waited for me to make my left.
Then on I-95 I was treated with stop-and-go traffic, when I saw a woman reading a paperback while driving. She was just creeping along with the traffic, but still with her nose buried in her book.
She later put the book down to take a cellphone call.
You might have trouble beliving this next part, but you can trust ‘Ol Weerdy when I say he car was all stoved to shit. I know, you’d think there wouldn’t be a scratch on the car of such an alert driver!
And of course I come home and the contractor had been working on the patio. It looks great, only we’re totally in the dark on some of the finer points, and he’s given us conflicting information at different times.
I’m sure it’ll be perfect by the time its done, but it makes my stomach hurt.
I just watched a delivery man dump a large liquid nitrogen cylinder off the back of a delivery truck. Thankfully the cylinder was an empty one we were returning to the vendor, so there was neither an explosion, rocket-propelled canister, or a massive spill of subzero liquid. Still these cylinders weigh over 100lbs and the driver attempted to stop the cylinder once it started falling. Ended up flipping him onto our loading dock.
He didn’t appear to have been injured, and he was damn lucky at that.
Its a good thing somebody is giving these drivers a job, because besides TSA air-rapist, I can’t imagine many other jobs some of these idiots can do.
While its reputation has vastly preceded it, and there has been much confusion about the REAL author of the Gun Blog Blacklist.

So we all know the National Firearms Act, its a load of crap. First up its about 90% Numbers Game, Feds picked a number out of the sky and applied it to law. They had to edit it a bit on, say, barrel length, because they had just sold a bunch of re-arsenaled M1 Carbines who’s barrels had be recrowned to shorter than 18″, so suddenly the law went saying that if you had a 17″ barrel on your rifle you were a federal felon and needed to go to prison if you didn’t pay a $200 tax stamp (on a gun you maybe spent $20 on) to suddenly 17″ is actually an overly cautious length to shorten a barrel to.
Barrel diameter they just picked a nice round number. 0.50″ Anything smaller is perfectly ok, anything bigger is a Destructive Device. Well except for guns the feds think are “Sporting Cartridges”, like say .600 Nitro Express. Because you know that the Shot heard ’round the world was actually aimed at a sizable deer, and accidentally hit a British Soldier in full dress uniform. “Sporting Purposes” is what the 2nd Amendment is all about. Don’t believe me, ask any “Progressive” lawyer!
Now Sound Suppressors are interesting things. They do actually accomplish something. But they accomplish the same something that the muffler on your car does, and those are mandated for public roads because loud cars make people unhappy. Loud guns can make people deaf, especially if you fire them off in an enclosed space, like inside your car, or inside your home. You know, situations where people are often attacked. Suppressors just make good sense and good manners, and the NFA not only makes them a pain in the ass to buy, but it makes them prohibitedly expensive. You can buy suppressors in Europe for what amounts to less than $100 US Dollars. I’ve seen listings under $50. Now these might not be as nice as the $600-$1000 units we have around here, but with the $200 Tax stamp and the massive waiting period people don’t look at cheap suppressors the same way they look at cheap magazines. If a magazine wears out, just throw it away and buy another. If a suppressor wears out you’re out a lot of money, and its going to take you a long time to get another. That just needs to end.
The last one that isn’t bullshit is full-auto guns. There is a VERY distinct difference between full-auto guns that are restricted under the NFA and their semi-auto cousins that a kosher for civilian sales without tax stamps and national registries. But have a look here:
Not that’s a 5.56x45mm M4 Carbine. The 5.56 Round came into favor because the 7.62x51mm M14 was difficult to control on full-auto. Many of the 7.62x51mm FALs had their full-auto sears removed before issuing to troops. The solution was to take a proven cartridge and replace it with a much weaker one that was easier to control on full-auto.
I frankly don’t see why full-auto fire was so necessary. Why not just teach the troops to quickly aim and fire in semi-auto, and give them a full-power cartridge so more of those hits count for keeps?
I dunno about my full-auto friends, but even if I could buy full-auto guns, I wouldn’t be very interested in them. Maybe I’d buy a Full-auto FAL just because, but frankly I don’t think it would spend much time on full-auto, as I just think semi-auto precisely aimed shot. Hell Even VPC agrees that full-auto isn’t all that big a deal.
most experts agree that semiautomatic fire is more accurate—and thus more lethal—than automatic fire.
When you’re using lethal force to defend your life, that’s the whole damn point!
So yeah, I don’t see anything on the NFA that’s a problem. I’m not 100% familiar with the paperwork and tax stamps, but I’d imagine the explosives can simply be handled by the ATF the same way they handle industrial explosives which appears to be working about as well as anybody can expect.
The rest of the stuff. Set it FREE! Even if the worst happens and some of them fall into criminal hands, I don’t see how its any worse than anything else.
