More Gun Control Sucess Stories!

From the UK where all anti-freedom zealots think we should strive to be.

Kimberley Bray, a 45-year-old gran, worked in schools for ten years and was employed at St Paul’s Catholic High School in Wythenshawe at the time of her arrest.

Arrest? My Goodness! I don’t know how the UK handles it, but teachers go through VERY extensive background check, and generally get treated worse than Massachusetts gun owners when they get their job. Background checks, fingerprinted, I believe my father even had to submit a DNA sample just to further intimidate the kiddie-diddlers into picking another line of work…like TSA screeners. I can’t imagine the UK school department being LESS intrusive than the British Police State. I mean they have public security cameras that look into private homes fer cryin’ out loud!

But she failed to tell police that her 46-year-old lover Paul Taylor was running a round-the-clock weapons safe-house for criminals from their home, which made her guilty of possessing them too.

The weapons – described by police as some of the most destructive they have ever seized – were linked to a series of shootings in Manchester and the north west, including one incident where a bullet narrowly missed a baby.

Whoa, you mean the kind of crime gun control is supposed to stop?

In a raid at the house in Burbage Road, Newall Green, police found a frightening array of firearms and ammunition, including two 9mm pistols, a 12-bore shotgun for use in combat, a Skorpion sub-machine gun

Look at this bullshit! Of all the full-auto guns, I think I’d want a VZ61 Skorpion most of all. Can’t have one of course, only a handful made it into the states before the Hughes Amendment, and even the Semi-auto Clones are not approved for Massachusetts sales! But over in England where handguns are 100% banned they have Skorpions!

and lethal hollow-point and soft-tip bullets.

Oh, grow the fuck up, you poofs! Police carry hollow point ammo because its SAFER! They need to put less rounds on target, and over-penetration is limited. Tho its not like handgun ammo (especially the 7.65x17mm Browning that Skorpion eats) is particularly lethal stuff, and Hollow points don’t improve overall lethality.

Now, Taylor – dubbed quartermaster to the criminal underworld in court – has been jailed for 17 years after admitting possessing guns and ammunition with intent to enable others to endanger life, as well as production of cannabis.

Huh, go figure. Marijuana is just as illegal as guns, and these jerks had BOTH. Its almost like criminals will get what they want, devil-be-damned.

The machine gun has been linked to five shootings in the north west going back five years.

One of the handguns – a Tariq 9mm believed to have been smuggled from Iraq – has been linked to three shootings in Greater Manchester, including a 2009 incident where a bullet narrowly missed a sleeping baby

Lot of shootings, big success of gun control right there! Also the Vz 61 is a Czech Sub Machine-gun, and the Tariq is an Iraqi copy of the Beretta 951. Using the logic of the antis (stop LAUGHING! :p) the obvious solution to Britain’s unsafe streets is to ban guns in IRAQ and the CZECH REPUBLIC!!!!11!!

You see they must do the same thing, just harder, THEN it will work!

Another success story for Gun Control! We OBVIOUSLY need more of it here, then OUR babies can get shot with SMGs and Iraqi Military Pistols!

Not to mention we can die while waiting for an operation being so glad that it would have been free, had we survived the multi-month waiting period!

I’d like to thank Sean who mailed this to me, while he’s on vacation! Enjoy your R&R, bro! I sure wish I wasn’t headed back into the lab tomorrow!

Got Nothing

The patio people showed up this morning to start the excavation for our patio. I took a half-day so I could make sure they started the job right, clarified any questions they had for me, ask some questions I had, and stroke a check for that stage of the work.

Blah Blah it was not a great use of my time. Now I’m playing catch-up in the lab to make up for the missed half-day.

So yeah don’t expect much here at least until evening.

“Gun Death” Family Affair

Does it really matter what weapon a violent criminal has if they live with you?

A 16-year-old Spotsylvania County youth charged with raping and killing his sister and beating his niece will likely be tried as an adult, said Commonwealth’s Attorney Bill Neely…Based on the accounts of the defendant, authorities said that Betsy Smith had been beaten with a sledgehammer and stabbed before being raped about 1 a.m. Monday morning.

When the 2-year-old niece began crying, she also was struck in the head with a sledgehammer, the sheriff said.

Horrible crime. Can you imagine it as being MORE horrible if a gun was involved?

Yeah

Quote of the Day: Tam

Tam has dropped a few winners, so much that I feel obligated to repost:

I swear to Vishnu, at one point she farted a rainbow. I’m surprised Barry didn’t make her SecTreas when that happened.

And for Snarky Cynicism:

What this planet needs is a 20-ft. flying predator.

Sadly Tam much like Authors writing about 20-ft Flying man-eaters (often breathing fire) and people spending HUGE money to go to Africa to hunt the big five (and the amazingly extensive anti-poaching laws out there to keep people who are hunting to keep it fair for the critters, and to keep us from over-hunting them.

If there was an honest-to-God keystone predator that eats people, they’d probably get hunted to extinction before they made too huge a dent in the Nation’s hobo and lay-about population.

Hell we beat the bejesus out of the Blue Whale population so much that the whole damn world simply banned commercial fishing of whales (Japan is currently the ONLY nation that harvests whales, and they do that under the guise of “Scientific Research”), Its the biggest damn creature on the planet, and its even bigger than the mo’fuggin dinosaurs, and the big fucking thing hides under the ocean and has no interest in people in the least, and we still came damn close to wiping them out, and frankly if we set the goal at killing all the fucking whales, rather than just keeping us tits-deep in blubber, baleen, and whale-burgers we’d have made a pretty good go of it.

I don’t think a 20 foot flying predator that hunts people would fare very well. If they were VERY plentiful they’d get a WHOLE lot of us, but in the end I suspect we’d get ALL of them. We’re just too damn good at killing stuff.

Point Shooting

DON’T! Seriously JUST DON’T!

Follow the link and see Caleb give a very good run-down on some pretty unimpressive point-shooting training.

Honestly point-shooting is the handgun training equivalent of making a political statement about Israel being behind the 9-11 attacks. It reveals you as a crackpot and discounts anything you might have to further add to the subject.

If anybody has handled a classic pistol or a replica of a vintage firearm you may quickly see why point shooting might have ever been considered.

Take my Colt 1908 Vest Pocket .25. It was the Conceal Carry gun of the first half of the 20th Century. Small, compact, and light. Also the M1908 was striker-fired with a rounded profile to avoid snagging when drawing from a pocket, purse or concealed holster. To further the snag-free design the sights consisted of a trench ground into the top of the slide with a miniscule front blade placed in the muzzle-end. Even in optimum light and against a white background that sight picture is hard to see. When I’ve shot this gun against a black target you can’t see ANYTHING. Also in low light, again the sights vanish. Even bigger guns like the S&W Model 10 or the Miltary M1911s had skinny front sights that were mated to narrow and small rear sights. In good conditions you could make precise aimed shots, but in the stereotypical defensive gun use, such as being jumped in a dark ally, or having your door kicked at oh-dark-hundred those old-style sights aren’t going to help you much, so you’re just going to have to point the gun at your target and hope the shots land where they need to.

Today that isn’t the case. Most guns have big sights that allow for a clean and fast sight picture, and there are many options for contrast, be it simple black-and-white of 3-dot, Dot-and-bucket, or dot-the-I, all the way to fiber optics, tritium, to XS Express Sights, you can tailor your gun from extremely accurate sights to very fast and everything in between.

There’s a little bit of debate in the comments at weather Caleb is being fair for calling this training course out as crackpottery, but frankly the video alone damns it. Still I’m hardly mister rocket-ninja or Mr. Tiny groups, but I guarantee I can shoot that course of fire just as fast with better accuracy using a gun that has sights.

Further because sight picture is EASY to train on, if it comes down to a situation where there is a rapidly closing attacker you can make a VERY rough sight picture as quick as point shooting simply from the muscle memory of bringing your gun up to your line of sight .

I can see SOME of the logic behind this for a VERY beginner person, as when I first started shooting I’d bring the gun up, then hunt for that front sights THEN do my fine-alignment and initiate a trigger squeeze.

Teaching this crude-alignment is MUCH faster than that, but frankly its like teaching a baby to crawl better. Crawling is just an intermediate and hardly and end. (You’ll know if you spend any length of time crawling around on the floor)

The training is simple. Get an empty gun and find a safe point on a wall. Put the gun at low-ready and raise it to the target and align the sights. Keep doing it until you can get it faster and smoother.

You can add more by adding a draw from a holster, or draw from a concealed holster, or adding in a trigger squeeze. But at its simplest it burns almost no calories and is VERY easy. After a few hundred repetitions your sights will appear on target roughly aligned. In any of the argued situations for point-shooting this WILL be good enugh. Furthermore if you’re at contact or near-contact distances even somebody who simply knows how to discharge a gun will be able to point it in a rough enough direction to draw blood. At arms-length your target is a zillion MOA across, they are the proverbial broad-side-of-a-barn. Training isn’t all that necessary at that point, and retention of the firearm and melee attacks would be better served to add a tactical advantage.

I carry in an urban environment. There may come a time when I, or somebody around me is attacked in a crowded area. Either a spree killer made sensational by the news, or something as simple as a mentally ill street-person doing something both crazy and dangerous. If there are lots of innocent people around and you feel it is appropriate to use deadly force you had better damn well know where all your rounds are.

Best way to do that is to use your sights….either to align your gun with your target’s vital zone, or as a nostril hook!

MKS Responds to Jake

So MKS wrote a really dumb press release. A bunch of bloggers chattered about it, but Jake was one of the first people I saw to actually write them.

Looks like MKS has responded to Jake. Go have a read. In a world where dumb statements are defended with non-apologies and non-committal responses, this one does strike me as quite sincere.

We’ll see if they have a more public response. Still good work Jake!

Neat Gun

Not sure on the details, but it looks neat! Detonics modular 1911! Not sure how much is modular, like can you swap calibers just by swapping uppers? It appears the grips are double-stack and polymer (tho it might be metal, hard to tell from just that picture) and the “Gun” is a chassis with rails and firing controls that mates with different grips and different “Uppers”, so you can take a 5″ 1911 and drop a 3″ barrel and slide onto it. Kinda neat. Frankly I’d rather just have two guns than worry about all the extra parts given that I doubt there’s a huge savings.

I do have a soft-spot for polymer framed Double-stacked 1911s. They just seem so WRONG! I mean the king of all-metal and single-stack defying those norms. I mean how do you berate Glocks when your 1911 is double-stack and plastic? (Hint: Grip angle, unsupported chamber, and lackluster reliability with the Gen4 Guns! 😉 ) Shelley Rae reviews the Bul M5, I’m not sure if this is pre-suck or era-of-suck Kimber, but the Kimber TEN has always been interesting to my eyes.

Of course there’s the STI 2011 Series which is THE name in double-stack 1911s, and it has a grip that appears VERY similar to that Detonics.

Still, when looking at polymer double-stack 1911s, I get wondering if maybe its too far. I like 1911s, and I carry one damn near every day. Still why the 1911? Well they’re fun, and I like shooting them, which means I’m good at shooting them, so there’s that. Also For Carry, because 1911 has a double-lug lockup with the slide rather than just the monster barrel-hood lockup (which is cheaper and works just as well, means the gun is fatter) they are SCARY slim. My S&W1911Sc with Chip McCormick slim grips measures 1.1″ across the safety wing. Its about 0.9″ every where else. This makes for a gun that is VERY comfortable to carry and VERY easy to conceal.

Looking at double-stack .45s, Why wouldn’t I just want the simpler and cheaper S&W M&P45? Or the XD series, or the FNH P45, or many other polymer double-stacks that really rule the market. Yeah even the Glock 21 or G30 if you’re OK with the grip angle and either don’t shoot reloads, or put in a replacement barrel with a supported chamber.

Still in the gun world the question should never be “Why?” but “Why Not??” 8)

You Know What Would Be Awesome?

A Magpul PDR

Chambered in .300 AAC Blackout stoked with their 220 grain subsonic rounds with a small suppressor on the muzzle.

Of course suppressors are NFA and a royal pain in the ass, there is really no easy was to make the PDR not a short-barreled rifle, as even with an 18″ barrel the gun is still too short overall to be non-NFA. And make it too big and you lose the whole point of such a cool gun.

I think it would be cool!

Morning Read

Joe has a great post up on the origins of the “Progressive” political movement.

Go give it a read.

“Progressives” often speak about the great evils committed in the name of religion, yet they cling to the tenants of Marx which has lead to most of the largest genocides and political mass-murder over the last century. Yet their words always breath the lie “This time we’ll get it right!”

I will heed no ground to a “Progressive” as they are pushing one of the most dangerous religion in the world.
