Ask: Joyce Myopia

Bitter beat me to this one, but I thought I’d riff on the article a bit more. Its an article essentially pushing the latest Joyce foundation gimmick where parents dropping children over for play-dates to ask if there are guns in the house, and how and where they are stored. Etc. The first I ever saw of this of course was through our favorite glassy-eyed Joyce-Shill. Being pushed by Joyce, taints any valid points it may have. Joyce Foundation is a gun-ban group, with no respect for the 2nd Amendment, nor personal safety or self-defense. They’re pure evil, and this is no different.

Now as Bitter said the writer starts out by essentially quoting the NRA Eddie Eagle program, which BTW is one of the best youth safety program out there, and even if you don’t have guns, or even HATE guns, your kids should be trained in this VERY basic gun safety. More on that later.

The money quote in the article is here:

“I would say it in a self-deprecating way, ‘I’m over the top, but I just want to know if there are guns in your house,'” she suggests saying. She thinks this humble, nonjudgmental “you might think I’m crazy” approach can defuse many difficult situations.

Yeah well that IS kinda crazy. Its also EXTREMELY myopic. First up if you’re dropping such a point-blank and pointed question, obviously you don’t know me from Adam, and you’ll get the same answer I give every total stranger asking about guns and other valuable items stored in my house: “Of course not!” Now here’s something else I need to expand on.

Now of course the myopia of the whole “Ask Campaign” is pretty stupid. If you know a person so little that you need to ask a probing question about their gun ownership, what else don’t you know about these people? There are things worse than guns. Could there be a sexually or physically abusive member in the family.

Hell when I was younger there was a kid who lived near our school, and he had an older brother that had some emotional issues. I know he beat me up pretty good one afternoon which was pretty scary. Other people told me he’d pulled a knife on them and threatened to kill them. There weren’t guns in that home, but I decided that it would be best if we played at MY house.

There are of course far too many tales of sexual assault that may involve play dates, but no mention about that.

If you don’t know if the parents are the type of people who leave guns lying around, how do you know how well will they supervise your children? Will they make sure they don’t get into a swimming pool? Play with chemicals? Tools? Kitchen cutlery? Tree Climbing? Running in the house? Hell why don’t they mention inspecting that tree house in the backyard for safety?

How about drug use? What’s worse, finding a parent or sibling’s gun, or finding their Heroin kit, or some colorful pharmaceuticals in an unmarked non-child-safe bag?

The insulting part of this piece is that its just another Joyce Foundation anti-gun piece with little concern for safety.

Now back to my 2nd Point. What happens when they say “No”? Now I’m a legal gun owner, as well as a safe responsible one. I store all my non-defensive guns unloaded with the ammunition separate. I also lock them up so my investment is protected. Still I fail to see how an unloaded M1 Garand or Mosin Nagant tucked in a closet with the ammo separate has any danger to children, especially if you’re a good parent and set boundaries for playing kids. I wasn’t allowed to rummage through my parents things, and certainly I knew better than to do such things at friend’s houses.

Furthermore Massachusetts law (illegally) requires me to keep all guns locked up. Its a bad law, but I comply until its repealed.

Still children getting shot isn’t uncommon here in Massachusetts. Its not normal citizens, its seems to be cops improperly storing their duty weapon, or drug dealers who don’t follow ANY laws, so dropping a fully-loaded, unlicensed, stolen gun in a drawer, or under a pillows isn’t any more of a concern than the narcotic operation, or violent job security they also engage in.

So what if the Mommy you ask is a Mommy to a 16-year-old crack dealer living under her roof. Either she has NO idea, or she knows all she needs to know and is harboring him. First she’s a bad parent, and second, how do you think she’s going to answer your questions?

So this leads to my first point. THEN WHAT? Even if you ask all the questions in the world, there’s no telling if you’ll ever get a straight answer, and even if you make a decent effort to vet all parents, surprises happen. Maybe you know Gloria and little Bobby and Jimmy since they were in diapers…but now you might not be aware that Jimmy now goes by “Big Jim” and has taken to running with the local gang when his Mom thinks he’s out playing Basket Ball.

Unlikely? Maybe. But what if your kid’s number’s up. Teach them basic gun safety. Treat all guns as if they are loaded. DON’T TOUCH THEM! If you see one, leave the area and find an adult.

Do this even if you’re super-anti-gun hate guns, and would never let a gun in your home. You can’t ever be 100% sure your kid will never find a gun. The Anti-Gun idea is about as effective as the Reagan “Just Say No” campaign, or the abstinence Sex-Ed program. It just doesn’t take into account a worse case scenario, and actually makes children MORE susceptible to harm when life throws a curve-ball.

And of course this also illustrates the insane fixation of the antis with guns. Accidental gun death for young children is extremely rare compared to other accidents that could injure or kill kids, but guns are different…because they are different. And somehow thinking that getting a “No” from “Are there guns in the home?” question somehow makes kids safer is just foolish.

Of course telling your kids they can’t play with THOSE kids because their parents own guns for self defense DOES achieve OTHER goals.

Bubba Smith Dead at 66

They were talking about Football Star Bubba Smith on the news this morning. I don’t follow football so it didn’t mean much to me. turns out we probably all know him.

So he turned to acting in movies and TV, notably playing Moses Hightower in six “Police Academy” movies. He also appeared in a number of TV series, including “Half-Nelson,” “Blue Thunder” and “Good Times.”

66 is far too young. Rest in Peace Bubba Smith!

“Gun Death” Child Abuse

This is a bad one

Phoenix police arrested four people in connection with the July 12 death of a young girl who was found inside a plastic container.

That’s not even the half of it. Click over the link to see the video and read the story to see the horrific treatment this little girl endured before she died locked in a box.

Yeah, we really need to foist “Gun Death” as some sort of valid metric, because if our whole country was full of monsters like these things would be peachy, right?

BTW from a safety standard, maybe the parents didn’t realize that locking a child in a storage container was safe or OK. Maybe all containers should have convenient warning labels:

yeah…

Interesting Phenomenon

Get a bunch of educators together for a Union Rally and you suddenly see a whole lot of stupid Marxists who think they know what’s best for us.

Interesting that Rhetoric, talking points, open lies, and flawed theory is what it takes to be an educator these days.

There are lots of AMAZING teachers out there, but until they get rid of the greedy, incompetent Marxists, they are wasting their time, and ruining the lives of the Students under them.

Furries in the News

What a ridiculous story.

Police in Idaho Falls said on Tuesday they have told a 34-year-old man to stop wearing a bunny suit in public after residents complained that he has been frightening children.

Its kinda a funny story. I’m deeply amused imagining this guy playing around his back yard in a bunny suit and a pink Tu-tu.

But then I think about the story. Dude’s in his own backyard and while he’s dressed funny, he’s fully dressed and not doing anything dangerous or threatening.

Its nosy neighbors getting into other people’s business, and they’re jerks, plain and simple.

I’m glad I’m friendly with all my neighbors, as bullshit like this can really take the fun out of your day-to-day.

He Didn’t

Joe Biden is an idiot. That’s not a big stretch, or a partisan statement. Just look what he says and see what he does and supports and you’ll see. There are bright shining lights in this world, and then there are people like Vice President Biden.

The President isn’t much better, so overall I ignore old Shoe leather Joe. Still sometimes he even shocks me!

Biden reportedly got a “tip” from former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Giffords would be present during the House vote Monday so the Vice President showed up to see Giffords, reportedly telling her, “now we’re both members of the ‘Cracked Head Club.’”

Biden went on to tell reporters, “you know, I had two craniotomies. For real. They literally took the top of my head off. Twice. Now, the wags in Delaware, when the second operation occurred, wrote and said, ‘Well, it’s because they couldn’t find a brain the first time!’”

First up I’m a bit curious on how Representative Giffords is these days, as far as I know she hasn’t given any public interviews. Frankly I see her being brought in for a vote on the same level as when the Dems pulled Senator Robert “Grand Dragon” Byrd and Senator Ted “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy from their Hospice beds to vote for Obamacare. Both men died shortly afterwards and were likely not in good health or of sound mind at the times of their votes. But votes are votes, and the far left has no shame….

Still she’s barely talking and not making public appearances, and Joe had to make Craniotomy jokes?

Now you all know I have horrible taste. I often call my epileptic wife “Twitch” just for sport. Still I won’t be making jokes about the “Cracked Heads Club” because she’s had a Craniotomy.

Why? Well because it isn’t funny! Its one thing to make an inappropriate joke, its another thing to make a LAME inappropriate joke!

Those Wacky Athiests

Tam has a post up on the butthurt Atheists that are upset that they might see something Cross-like at a 9-11 memorial, and the so-called Christians who are hurling some ironically unflattering insults at them.

I’m not going to go to far into the so-called Christians being violent assholes. When it comes to heart-felt belief the weaker-minded of any group will often do some really stupid things. Who hasn’t seen somebody wish death or harm on a troll on a message board of ANY topic. I’ve seen people wishing harm on other people who didn’t like the same Anime series they do. Seriously, two Americans arguing with violent threats over a JAPANESE cartoon show. And that’s not even getting into the furies. I’ve seen harm wished by pro-gun people on Anti-gun people (and despite motive and opportunity all known anti-gun trolls are still alive. They know this, and that’s why they troll) I’ve been wished harm by anti-gun people.

There are turds in every pot. Islam and Marxism get short shrift from me only because there are entire nations that are Muslim Theocracies that sponsor the “Kill all the Jews/Infidels” perversion of Islam. That’s just a pressure cooker of danger. Marxism always ends in state-sponsored mass murder…so its a shitty ideology because that’s the fucking truth.

Still as a former Atheist I gotta wonder what the big deal is. Sure I get upset if somebody gets up in my grill or actively judges me (I’m most impressed with the people who pray for me simply because I don’t subscribe to their theology) for not believing what they believe, or when I see them supporting bashing of other ideologies or lifestyles, or if they’re “praying away the gay” or forcing your kids in public school to Memorize the Ten Commandments in social studies, or study the Book of Genesis as an alternative to Darwinian Evolution.

Still thinking you can go through life not believing in a higher power and be insulated from religious icons, relics, or seeing religious ceremonies or practices isn’t very realistic.

Look Atheists if you see somebody wearing a yarmulke, a Cross, or a Hijab, that’s how they roll. They believe those things have meaning, you don’t. Don’t get offended. It would be no different than me getting offended when my coworkers talk about the big ball game around the water cooler. Didn’t watch it didn’t care. They DO care, and so long as they aren’t making me watch it, what is it to me?

Saying you don’t want to see religious icons at a memorial for a Mass-Murder that killed lots of people of a wide range of faiths is pretty rude. Death is one of those big things that tie into religion, and to push religion away from a HUGE death event is VERY rude. Also look around and note those you know who DO have faith.

I may not ascribe to any particular faith, but man I see a LOT of good done. Grow up and get over yourself. Not believing in these things SHOULD mean they don’t have any power over you!

Give a Man Fish He’ll Eat for a Day

Teach a man to fish he’ll probably go back to his house and wait for you to bring him more fish.
Kevin posted this gem the other day.

Note these are the people we need to have our taxes raised for. And don’t go flashing the race card, there are plenty of trailer parks and high-rises filled with folks of EVERY color who won’t work because Big Daddy .Gov picks up the tab. And even better he’ll pick up the tab for your food, rent, but also your slot machines, lottery ticket, booze and smokes! You really only need cash to buy your drugs!

Maine was a little more strict than this, but if you asked around you could find a junkie on food stamps who’d be willing to sell you $50 worth of groceries for $25 in cash…maybe if you didn’t have a five you could talk him down to an even $20. Hell McDonalds added credit card readers in the last few years just so they could get food stamps.

And look, “I appreciate you paying for my rent and school, Judge Judy!”, sounds like a half-cocked ejaculation. I’m sure he thinks that money really just comes from the sky, and Judge Judy is just talkin’ tough. But he has no shame that he’s living on the dole, and ZERO shame at being caught misusing the funds.

But the kicker is Sugar-Momma, who I bet you thought was gonna take this asshole to the cleaners….she wasn’t paying her rent and got evicted…no shame in that. Sign a lease, and then feel no obligation to honor it?

These are people who can work, pay their rent and better their lives…they just chose not to. Frankly I can’t blame them. Bettering your life has its rewards, but it has its costs. Its MUCH easier just to lie back and let the .gov pick up the tab. Sure I bet the apartment their arguing over is a shithole. You get what you pay for…and what these assholes paid for is First month, and security deposit. And I bet there was a bunch of government-bought drugs to be had! Also he’s studying the saxophone! That, Wymns Studies, and Sanskrit are degrees that will all land you jobs that any high school graduate will get!

Shit like this doesn’t make me warm up much when I hear the “Progressives” say I need to pay more in taxes.

Fuck you! You’re taking my money and tossing off a bridge. I don’t think I want to give you any more. The Government is a junkie, but rather than borrowing your money to put some smack in its arm, its borrowing money to give cash to our most irresponsible and unproductive.

Seem fair to you?

“Gun Death” I’m OK with this

This one is a little lighter.

THE body of a Louisiana man who vanished 27 years ago have been found lodged inside a bank’s chimney.

Staff stumbled across Joseph Schexnider’s corpse as they carried out renovation work. He went missing in January 1984 ahead of a court appearance for possessing a stolen vehicle, KATC-TV reported today.

Police investigating the grim find in Abbeville, west of New Orleans, have ruled out foul play.

They say Schexnider probably died from dehydration and starvation after climbing into the Bank of Abbeville’s chimney and becoming trapped.

The story goes on to question why the corpse didn’t have any safe cracking tools, or gear to haul away large amounts of cash.

They fail to note that he attempted to enter the building via a Chimney. There’s a reason why there isn’t a huge market for chimney security means…because this is the most realistic outcome of that.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. And no “Gun Death”! I’m OK with this!

Play me Out Anne Heche

Been listening to a bunch of Smodcasts and in one Kevin Smith and Chris Hardwick talk about the origin of this song:

I remember seeing the remake of Psycho and just being wide-eyed at the shower scene. Was I the only one who saw that? Was I mistaken? I saw the movie in the Theater with my parents, and I wasn’t quite comfortable to broach the subject with them.

Yep well if you’re curious the scene is here, semi-NSFW
