I think we’ll be seeing a LOT more things like this.
A team of researchers announced Monday it has discovered a completely new strain of gonorrhea that is resistant to all currently available antibiotics.
The strain of Neisseria gonorrhoeae was identified in a female sex worker in Japan and now, an international research team has dubbed the superbug H041. They say the strain could transform gonorrhea from what was once an easily treatable sexually transmitted infection into a serious public health threat.
Bugs by nature are evolutionarily driven to overcome antibiotics, and given that their life cycle is VERY short, they can get a LOT of trial and error out of the way in a short amount of time.
Needless to say if you’re having congress with a new partner wrap your damn hog. Also since this was first discovered in a prostitute in Japan if you know anybody stationed in Okinawa, or teaching English in Japan, make sure they know about this.
Bluesun thinks I may have had a hand in it. I must say I see no such evidence of that. Still I was REALLY amused by this blog post identifying several of the more egregious rioters and vandals.

A 23-year-old man accused in the beating death of a Mount Gilead man was indicated Thursday….He was arrested the week of July 4 after 48-year-old Joseph Rosella was found beaten to death in a garage at a home on Congress Township Road 87.
Kelly is dating Rosella’s 18-year-old daughter….Police are still looking for the aluminum bat they said was used to commit the crime.
A simple sports implement that most children in America posses, and many adults can be quite the deadly weapon if in the hands of a person with evil intent. Of course we all know it is in important part of a fun game in the hands of good people.
What makes more sense to regulate, the item or the handful of people who abuse it?
Of course there are no onerous regulations for sports equipment in America these days, so why are firearms any different?

This is how it should be done. I will first add that California’s Open Carry Laws are stupid, and the only people carrying openly are protesting, as a totally unloaded gun has VERY limited uses, even when you have a belt full of loaded magazines.
Still this is an exemplary job. The Officer is friendly, frank, and clear about what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. Also I don’t know my cop-talk, but it appears he’s telling the other officer he doesn’t need any help dealing with this guy. Furthermore the encounter is being video taped and it appears that in California you have no duty to present Identification in such a detainment, and the officer is cool with that, so cool he gives his name and badge number, and states his full understanding that it very well may go up on youtube.
Well played officer Matt Lyons! Now maybe I’m being my usual starry eyed optimist, but maybe if this video goes viral there might be some incentive and understanding by officers exactly how to handle those of us who are exercising our rights, even when you may have some legitimate concerns about how those rights about being exercised.

One reason Jay and I went shooting the other night was so I could get my hands on his Ruger LC9.
First up, I was impressed. Initial impressions was it was HUGE compared to other mouseguns, but that being said it has about the exact same dimensions as a S&W J-Frame Revolver, so if you carry a J-Frame comfortably the SR9 will carry just as well.
Shooting it was a snap as well. Obviously its a 17 oz pistol chambered in 9x19mm, still this is not very punishing, and its certainly easier on the hands than my J-Frame. Its VERY thin, actually almost too thin, I found that it wasn’t as comfortable to grip as a wider gun, still for comfort of carry, I think we’re all willing to sacrifice a little shooting comfort. The sights were adequate, a little small for my tastes, but still easy to use and see. They’re of a 3-dot configuration which is what I’m most used to anyway.
The gun gives me two fingers of grip on a flush-fit magazine, with a very small sliver of grip for my pinkie. I simply chose to curl my pinkie under the grip where I could offer a bit more support. With the extended finger rest you get a full 3-finger grip.
Now onto what pisses me off about Ruger. The lawyer widgets. This gun is a DAO gun where the hammer is partially charged by the action. It gives a long and smooth trigger pull that is consistent with no stacking. That should be enough for safe carry, but Ruger belts on a thumb safety a magazine disconnect and a flag-style loaded chamber indicator. The LCI is ugly as sin when in the “Loaded” position. I didn’t dissemble the gun to see how it operates, so I’m not sure if it poses any dangers or if it could be a failure point. Overall LCIs are things I don’t get too worked up about, I just ignore them, and clear the gun like a big boy when handling it. I advise everybody handling any gun to no trust an LCI or witness hole to determine the condition of any firearm. Do a brass check on a gun you wish to confirm as loaded, and drop the magazine and open the action, checking both the magazine well, as well as the chamber to a gun you wish to clear.
The thumb safety actually isn’t as big a deal as I thought it would be. When I first looked at it it reminded me of the HORRIBLE thumb safety on the Mass-Approved Kahr PM9 which is both an ergonomic and safety nightmare, on the LC9 the safety actually can be actuated similar to that of an M1911 pistol, including riding the safety in your firing grip. While the safety is low profile and something that probably isn’t likely get bumped on during carry, I think I’d prefer to carry this gun with the safety in the On position and simply practice swiping it off on the draw stroke, and train shooting it in a 1911-style firing grip so no matter what happens the gun will be ready to fire no matter what Murphey’s law throws at you, that being said the long DAO-style trigger is all you need for safe carry, and in a good holster I wouldn’t be overly nervious that an “off” safety would turn to an “ON” (honestly from feeling it, I’d think its more likely an “On” might go “Off”) this gun would be perfectly carried with the safety off.
Last is the Mag Disconnect. As I say all the time, Magazine Disconnects are “Safety Features” that could get you killed. All you need is a little bump of the mag release, or for whatever reason fail to seat the magazine on loading (either in a reload in self-defense, or simply gassing the gun up before you go out in the world) and your gun WILL NOT WORK until you seat the magazine. Also if ever your magazine happens to drop, or you are attempting to top-off your gun, your gun loses all potential of at least having one shot ready to go.
Still this horrible feature seems to come out with great ease.
I’ll say in the face of his little lawyer speech, if a defensive gun of yours has a magazine disconnect I recommend you get a new gun without one, or have it removed by a competent smith. There is NOTHING good that can come from a gun with a magazine disconnect, but some very bad things can happen when you use a gun with a mag disconnect. REMOVE IT!
So yeah the LC9 seems like a cool gun, I’ll further add that I have no idea why Caleb dislikes them. Sure you may not be able to hide an LC9 or a Kahr PM9, or a Kel-Tec PF9 or P11 as easily as a .380 Pocket gun, you WILL have more fire power in cartridge strength, as well as having a little more gun to grab onto. If you can conceal a J-frame revolver, you can conceal and carry a PF9 or similar pocket 9mm pistol.
Lots of gunnie show-and-tell, and much fun was had. And this is the bottom line. I carry a gun for self defense, and those who I care for, but because shooting is an extremely fun hobby and social activity, it gives us all further drive to protect our rights.
From a guy who’s turned off by the power and bullet weight of the ubiquitous 5.56x45mm, its nice to see people beefing up the diet of the AR-15. Certainly looking at the numbers available the 7.62×40 certainly has the most versatile and powerful loadings, tho the .300 AAC Blackout does hold the distinction of being designed to run subsonic for suppressed fire.
Of course they’re all super rare cartridges that essentially marry you to handloading until several major ammo makers start picking up the cartridge, and single-sourcing for rifles until the same thing happens.
Meanwhile we have this odd cartridge. readily available, many different platforms as well as different manufactures.
What’s my point? Well not a lot really. If you HAVE an AR and want to build it up to a .30 but don’t feel like buying a whole new gun, I guess this will work.
Still as cool as all these cartridges are (and they are cool) I think I’d rather have an FAL or an AR-10 in .308 than bother with these.
The Pits of Negligence is bottomless. There is nothing that will stop those so reckless from eventually killing.
A Florida couple is on trial for murder after police say their pet snake killed their two-year-old daughter.
What laws could have stopped this?
Prosecutors say the couple didn’t have a license to own an exotic snake, they both tested positive for drug use and that the snake had escaped from the cage before. That’s why they decided to file murder charges for the first time ever in a case like this.
I guess you need a permit to own a dangerous snake like this, but they didn’t have one. Also using drugs is illegal. They also got a good warning when this beast escaped before. Stacks and stacks of negligence, but one thing you won’t find is “Gun Death”. You see if Mom and Dad had left a loaded pistol on the coffee table as they shot off and drifted off with Morpheus and the little girl had managed to discharge the firearm and kill herself now THAT would be a relevant story, even tho these people probably would be about as legal at owning a firearm as they were about owning a snake.
But somehow “Gun Death” is relevant, but when the Junkies let a snake kill a little girl its just a freak accident.
