Second is from Everyday, No Days Off. The Downsizer pistol. My first thoughts were those I mentioned in the Mousegun post. How small does a gun need to be? Seriously, yeah you could hide that thing damn near anywhere (don’t think too deep on that, you might get grossed out) but seriously, I doubt that “Grip” under the trigger guard is as wide as my middle finger, and I bet that shooting .357 Magnum rounds through that is a sensation VERY close to hitting the webbing of your hand with a framing hammer as hard as you can, and the .45 ACP and .40 S&W probably aren’t much better, and the 9mm and .38 Special are just “Really Unpleasant” rather than “Unbearable”. And on top of all of that its a single shot, and I have no idea what the reloading process is. Does it have an extractor, or do you need to punch out the empty with a dowel? Either way it probably takes a good deal of time to eject the spent and feed in a second round to get your second shot…and that’s likely with a hand that’s numb from firing it in the first place.
Yeah its a .45 or .357 pistol that’s smaller than a playing card, but don’t you think that a slightly larger LCP or Seecamp might be a better option as they are repeating arms.
Still my criticism can only go so far as only a handful were made before California’s stupid “Handgun Safety” rules hit the books, shutting the shop down for good.
I don’t see it as a terribly useful gun, but still to call it “Unsafe” would show again how much “Common Sense” those who hate freedom have.
Most of the time when you hear “Murder Suicide” it means “Gun Death”, right?
Puerto Rico police say a 30-year-old man apparently hanged his 4-year-old daughter from a backyard tree and then used another noose to kill himself.
Why would ANYBODY own rope and a tree if not to commit murder! Good thing Puerto Rico does such a good job at infringing on its American Citizen residents’ 2nd Amendment Rights!
Ok Michael Bane got me hooked on this guy in his latest podcast. Really Dig him!

From the more geeky angle, The Nerdist done by Comedian Chris Hardwick and his rag-tag crew of g33ks.
Adam Carolla also runs his own network of Podcasts. One I really enjoy besides Adam’s show is Larry Miller.
Another network is Director Kevin Smith’s Smodcast there’s a hundred zillion shows on that and they’re all funny!
For those of you who like to listen to people talk about their business in the bedroom, Dan Savage’s Savage Lovecast is the place for you.

I ended up sleeping with 2 M16s through some of Marine combat training because they guy I shared a tent with on a few field exercises couldn’t deal with having a rifle in his sleeping bag.
PLEASE follow the above link so all Marines know I’m just joshing! (Tho if all parties are consenting what’s wrong with polygamy?)
I can’t imagine a rifle, and all its hard edges makes a terribly good bunk mate, but if you’re out in the sticks and carrying a rifle, I can think of no better place for one than in your sleeping bag (chamber empty PLEASE!). As a matter of fact in your tent-mate’s sleeping bag is a pretty rotten place because if the SHTF you’re gonna be pestering your buddy for your rifle!

So Joan Peterson of the Brady Campaign and Joyce Foundation discusses self defense.
Anon- you have chosen to carry a gun and have a gun to “protect” your family. I have not. I see things differently. I don’t see the need for a gun everywhere I go and so far things have worked out fine except for the shooting of my sister by her estranged husband.
First the small point she starts off with the “You made your choice, I made mine”, which is horribly disingenuous. I have NO problem with people choosing NOT to carry or own guns. Gun ownership is elective. Now those who work for the same groups as she does often use the scare tactics of “The NRA wants everybody to carry guns EVERYWHERE!” or “The Gun Lobby is handing out guns to *X Demographic*. Which is bullshit. What we’re for is allowing people to CHOOSE to carry, and CHOOSE where they carry. If you want to buy a gun, BUY ONE. If guns are icky, or you only like one type of gun, nobody is forcing you. If you think AR-15s suck, or 33 round glock magazines are scary, nobody is tossing them in your Christmas stocking.
Of course The Joyce Foundation and the Brady Campaign have a long and storied record of DENYING choice. They want carry laws to be repealed. They want more areas declared “Gun Free Zones” so those who CHOOSE to carry are FORCED to disarm, and they and they have spoken up about banning just about every gun known to man, so if you WANT an AR-15, well they would prefer you couldn’t get one, and if you WANT a 33 Round magazine for your Glock or a rifle, well they want to make that a crime.
Sorry, Joan you can’t hide behind “Well that was your Choice” when you’re working to remove that choice from legal activities. (Of course noting that while it IS illegal to do drugs in this country, criminals still make that choice in spite of the law, as they do with carrying guns and other weapons around to commit predatory violence)
But the big point is her exception made: “except for the shooting of my sister by her estranged husband.” Her sister’s boyfriend was also murdered that day, but she fails to mention that.
You know that’s a pretty big exception, don’t you think? I mean I didn’t put on my gun this morning because I expect to use it. I really expect, just like all the days before, NOT to use it. Same goes for my safety belt, my security alarm, locking my doors, hell I make sure to shut all the windows in the house before I go to bed. Why? Well its just in case a freak thunderstorm comes by, I’d rather wake up in a house that’s a bit stuffy in the morning than deal with water damaged hardwood.
If I expected to use my safety belt or air bag in my truck, I simply wouldn’t go driving that day. I go driving because I assume I’ll be safe, but I understand that there is a real possibility that I might be in a serious accident where those safety devices will save my life.
I don’t expect to use them, but I do anyway because death is kind of a big deal to me.
I don’t expect to use my gun, but I know that if the ball drops and I REALLY NEED my gun and for whatever reason I don’t have one, I and/or somebody else may die.
That’s a HUGE Exception, and one I don’t really think expresses much Common Sense.

45er got me thinking about shark biology.
Many people will describe sharks (and many other species currently extant) as “Primitive”. This isn’t exactly untrue as the shark design has been going through only minor changes over the last million years, but given that during the Cambrian period all life was single-cell, technically all life currently around today (even single-cell protists) are equally advanced because they have gone through the same selection processes that shaped the so-called “Higher Lifeforms”, and the true primitive species simply aren’t around today because they went extinct.
Thinking about sharks got me thinking about 1911s. Its an old design originating from a time when guns were remarkably different. Back then only revolvers were double-action, and people didn’t trust safeties so they loaded their guns with superfluous safety features. Magazines were single-stack, and ammunition was low-pressure and subsonic.
A lot different than say a GLOCK 31 with a polymer frame, no manual safety, and a 15 round magazine of .357 SIG!
Still:
I picked that Sevengill video not only because its an awesome video, but the Sevengill has even more “Primitive” features to its biological design than say a Great White or a Hammerhead.
Still even a 10ft “Primitive” shark, or a “Primitive” 1911, are you really going to argue with them?
They’re primitive, but they’re also still around. They’re still around because they’re designs that still work very well, even in a world that has since moved on to different designs.
