Gun Control Paradise: How’s that working?

Headline: Costa Rica hotel guard who shot Kansas teen has been arrested

A hotel security guard has been arrested in Costa Rica in the shooting of a 16-year-old McLouth High School student, Costa Rica authorities said Friday.

Authorities said the security guard is a 36-year-old Nicaraguan man who did not have permission to carry weapons in Costa Rica.

Didn’t have permission, so he was illegally carrying a gun, yet he held a position of a hotel security guard.

Johnston and three boys went to visit friends in another room. The OIJ did not make clear the layout of the rooms, but the four boys returned to their room through some trees about 4 a.m.

The security guard shouted at them to stop, but they ran and the security guard shot at them, Solís said.

Johnston was struck in the chest and died at the scene, he said.

Now I can certainly see teens sneaking around in the dark as suspicious, but not deadly, certainly when they are unarmed and running away.

Solís said authorities are investigating the case as a “simple homicide, because when he shot, he thought that the guys were thieves,”

Get that? He thought they were “thieves” so its only a “Simple Homicide”. Here in America (where anti-rights advocates compare us to the “Wild West”) if somebody pulls a knife on you and demand a wallet and rather than responding with deadly force you hand over your wallet…THEN shoot the thief in the back as he runs, you’re going to need a VERY good lawyer to escape a murder charge.

My heart goes out to the family of Justin Johnston. This was a horrible and inexcusable tragedy, and I hope that there is some justice in this case, but I have my doubts.

Turtle Update

Back at it:

Not sure what he or she is digging for. The hole is very shallow, so I doubt its a mom burying eggs. Maybe its looking for earthworms.

Also yesterday it was covered with mosquitoes. I didn’t know what that was about as I assumed that scaley skin would be too though for the bugs to bite.

I guess not, I noticed several engorged mosquitoes digesting their meal sitting on its back.

Amusing.

Hadn’t Thought of That

In my Previous Post I floated the Theory that Al-Qaeda was playing into the hands of the gun-banners to soften up the rather hard target that is American Soil for Mumbai-Style attacks.

Thirdpower adds to that interesting theory:

Anyone who knows anything about firearms knows this is complete nonsense so, after we laughed at them a bit, they started modifying the message, not mentioning the ‘fully auto assault rifle’ bit and just pushing the ‘gun show loophole’ and terrorists in the same breath.

So the demographic they’re going for is the ignorant and the fearful. They convince their membership that these things are true then try and get them to talk to other people who don’t know anything about gun shows or firearms, scaring them in the process.

I didn’t even think of it. The video is posed as Al-Qaeda asking for its sleeper cells and lone-wold sympathizers to buy guns and kill Americans. If this video was legit why would Al-Qaeda be leading its own people to slaughter?

Do any of you remember when two gun-control advocates attempted to illegally buy a handgun at a New Hampshire Gun Show? These guys would have been looking at time in federal prison if it hadn’t been a hoax. They in fact DIDN’T break any laws, and just lied and said they did. I imagine a slew of young religious fanatics going into gun shows around the country demanding AK-47s without background checks will get the attention of the FBI, CIA, and ATF pretty damn quick (PDQ! LOL!) and while the most likely scenario is these Hadji-Wannabes will not actually be ABLE to commit a crime (Just like Mr. Rosenthal found when he attempted to buy a handgun without a New Hampshire driver’s license) still getting the attention of the federales kinda defeats the purpose of “Sleeper cells” doesn’t it?

There’s ONLY one way this story plays out. Al-Qaeda is playing into the hands of the Brady Campaign and the Joyce Foundation. I won’t be an asshole and claim these anti-freedom jerks are complicit with each other, but I will say Brady and Joyce are desperate enough that they WILL attempt to run with this poison ball.

I’m fine with that.

“Gun Death” Watchin’ the Game

We should ban Basketball, as there are a lot of deaths associated with it!

According to court documents, Jones had gone to Oliver’s home in an apartment complex on the 3300 block of East 30th Street in Kansas City Tuesday evening to watch Game 1 of the NBA Finals when the two friends began arguing.

Jones told police he did not remember stabbing Oliver but said he had thrown the knife at him. Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Its obviously the NBA’s fault. The NBA and George W. Bush. Well NBA, George W. Bush, and Guns.

Right?

Party of Cheating and Philandering

Go figure, it was his wiener! If that surprises anybody you might be an idiot!

His wife is claiming that she’ll stay with his Philandering, does make me wonder about certain rumors.

Of course with John Edwards, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Eliot Spitzer, and the Entire Kennedy Clan, and countless more.

Women, if your man is a Liberal, a Democrat, or a “Progressive”, he’s fucking somebody else behind your back.

On Steak and Hamburger

People often say “Why have a hamburger when you could have steak?” Of course the other day I ate a Hamburger when I had steak I could have cooked. They aren’t the same things, and they have different times and places where they’re appropriate. Right now I have a few boxes left of my Incredibrew Beer, but its Monday, and I got my allergy shot, and I think the nurse bumped my nerve, because my arm HURTS! Decided I needed some beer, and the good stuff just wouldn’t do. So I stopped by my favorite packie. First thing I saw:

OH NO! BAD IDEA! That’s Budweiser and Clamato! NASTY! Nope, I’m enjoying this!

Genesee Ice 40oz!

When I’m down in Pennsylvania and New Jersey I enjoy Genesee beer. Its a nice alternative to the various cheap bears that exist up north here. I was concerned that the “Ice” formulation might be nasty, and given that it was also the cheapest 40 in the case, there was a bit of fear.

Its a damn smooth beer! I really enjoy it! You might enjoy it too! You know Bruz40 does!

Junk Science

In my offshore days I worked as a contractor for NMFS and I had to really do some mental gymnastics to sleep at night knowing the work I was doing.

Now granted the work I was doing wasn’t all that bad. I stuck to our collection protocols and delivered the best data sets I could every trip out. Still I had one captain say this to me, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it: “I like you just fine, and I know you’re just here to make a living, but let’s face it NOTHING good will come from me letting you on my boat.”

This was said ON his boat while we were offshore and fishing. I went through bumper years where the fishermen were hauling in great catches, and I went through down years where the fishing wasn’t great. No matter WHAT the word from the .gov was the same: The fish were declining and commercial fishing needed to be further regulated.

Now on a side note I ended up leaving the Fisheries Observer industry because I was laid off. There was a massive budget cut to NOAA to help pay for the Iraq war, and myself, and about 90% of all the contractors for my company were cut lose.

You see fisheries data isn’t the highest priority in government funding. Can you imagine how it would be if they told the truth about the fisheries, rather than cooking numbers to make it look like population crashes are on the verge? If they said things were going well, the government would cut the funding and the truth-telling scientists would be out of work for their honesty.

A similar story can be found here, where NOAA was using the regulations to feather their own nest.

Borepatch has a similar story of a fisheries researcher cooking the books with a junk science study with a sample set of TWO FISH (I’ll point out that I doubt they only CAUGHT two fish as two is a REALLY small sample size for field work, even lazy field work, I suspect many were caught but two were cherry picked to fit the study. Why would somebody do this? MONEY! The same reason why the climate change racket was set up that was shown in the East Anglia leaked emails, you see if you do climate research it isn’t like my current field of cancer research where the end-result is a money-making cancer treatment, there is nothing profitable about climate research….well almost nothing. Instead climate scientists need to survive off of grants. This isn’t bad news there’s lots of pure science research that yields interesting information, but will never actually pay for itself. Still money doesn’t grow on trees, so SOMEBODY has to pay for it. Think of it this way, if you only had X dollars, and that could pay for research for a cure for cancer OR the mating habits of a deep sea sea-slug, but not BOTH, which would you chose? Deep sea life is cool, and we really don’t know a ton about it, but really how often does somebody think about the Mariana Trench while you’re helping a sick loved one who’s dying of cancer?

But besides private funding and university funding, more steady research grants can be secured if a perceived disaster is at hand. In my case I was paid because the US government was lead to believe that the fishermen were raping the ocean and without government funds the domestic fish supply would end. The Climate Change Cult lead the government to believe that unless they properly regulated CO2 production the seas would rise and the world would end. The government didn’t exactly care if the studies were bunk or not, as they could use the data to push further regulation, and stir up fear in re-election campaigns. Still maybe all of them weren’t so dishonest, maybe they were just too stupid to understand how the scientific method works. I’d be willing to buy that for many of our elected officials. In the case of East Anglia they got a nation-wide conspiracy going simply because if somebody talked they’d kill the goose that was laying the golden eggs. Like all REAL conspiracies tho, somebody’s conscience got the better of them and the emails were leaked.

Still the cultists are still pushing the debunked idea. Its really more religion than science.

Action and Reaction

I thought I’d expand on my comment over at Uncle’s. There has been a bit of buzz about the Taliban calling for Jihadis to buy guns at gun shows. I haven’t given it much credence because all of these fundamentalist nuts are simply propaganda artists and liars. Their goals are to manipulated uneducated and illiterate followers who only know what they have been told about the Qur’an, and of course to manipulate their enemies.

“America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms. You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle without a background check and most likely without having to show an identification card. So what are you waiting for?”

Anybody’s who been to a gun show know that’s horseshit. And of course if you know anything about full-auto guns, you know that its impossible to buy a select fire gun for personal use inside a few MONTHS, let alone without a background check.

As I said at Uncle’s place it reminds me of a political story that might simply be an urban legend:
A Southern Politician is running for public office. A grand Wizard of the KKK calls his office and says he likes the guy’s platform and what he stands for, then asks if he’d prefer the Klan endorse him, or his opponent.

Weather this tale is true or not is irrelevant in that we know that polarizing endorsements can lead people astray. John McCain being endorsed by the NRA might lead some to believe he is solid on the second Amendment, when he really isn’t. I could certainly see the Brady Campaign or the Joyce foundation endorsing a pro-gun candidate to cause conflict, tho I can’t see any of them having the stones to attempt such a bluff.

We talked here about how the lack of firearms ownership and self-defense rights in India in part contributed to the Mumbai Massacre, and certainly the attack and dynamics showed that strict gun control laws did nothing to hinder the terrorists from doing their dirty deeds. Read the rest of the linked news article to show the amount of anti-rights boilerplate linking gun show firearms to crimes (bullshit) and talking about putting the Terror Watch-list into NICS for denial of sales somehow doing ANY good (Double Bullshit!). The antis are using this to make political hay, but what’s the end?

If anything the terrorists want buying and carrying guns in America to be MORE difficult because the last thing they want is people shooting back, and certainly not people who aren’t uniformed police and military that can be avoided and predicted.

I think this is an intentional manipulation. Of course the best advice is to not listen to Jihadis, because they didn’t bother to tell us about 9-11 or the USS Cole why would they tell us about this?

Turtle!

Saw this guy in the parking lot this morning.

That’s an American Snapping Turtle. Common to pretty much most of North America, also tasty from what I hear. This guy was basking in the middle of the parking lot access road. Not a bright idea, so I grabbed him by the tail (they have long necks so they can bite or claw you if you grab them by the shell. Their tails are big and sturdy enough to hold their weight.

I moved him to the other side of the curb where he could still get some sun, but stay clear of the cars.

A much smarter move. Reminds me of this video

Note how the turtle drags the pigeon down to drown it. Good move turtle! Keep it up!
