Never Be Alone

This is a local news story, frankly this bullshit outrages me.

Officials advised joggers, pedestrians and cyclers to stay in groups, especially after dark.

Somebody was attacked in a public park, and now the grand protectors are asking everybody not to go into the public space without an escort. Also there’s a big question if this is a repeat offender as his physical description and MO are similar to two other sexual assaults in the area.

So the cops are admitting that you can’t depend on them for protection, as they have no suspects, and they believe this may be part of a longer-running cold case. Instead they want you to protect yourself.

But this is Boston, so they ask people to travel and groups, and avoid public spaces after dark.

BULLSHIT, not only should you be able to enjoy public spaces any time you wish, also not everybody out there after dark is there for pleasure. People might be walking home from work, or walking to visit with friends or family, these are not things that can always be done with an escort.

Instead go armed. Get a gun if you can as they’re the greatest force multiplier you can get…if you can’t get a gun get something like a defensive knife, my personal preference is the Ka-Bar TDI, of course being Boston they make it VERY difficult for innocent people to defend themselves.

This is the world Gun Control Advocates want us to live in, in such fear that we don’t do what we want to do, or only operate in groups.

Karma Economic Justice

I’ll keep the details vague because I have no idea what details they care to share and what not. But Today I took the day off to help a friend who’s going through a rough patch in life.

This friend thanked me for taking the day, and said I was winning Major Karma points for being there in the time of need.

That got me wondering, are there leftists out there who would see my now burgeoning Karma-Wallet and decided that because they are unvirtuous and have no good Karma, would they want to tax some of my Karma for their own good?

“Gun Death” Robbery

In Texas everybody has a gun, so they have very high “Gun Death”.

A coroner determined Moreno died of asphyxia and blunt force trauma. Police say Torres had lived with Moreno.

Investigators say Torres killed Moreno to rob her and get crack cocaine. Torres also told Lubbock police that he licked the blood off Moreno’s rings, while stealing the jewelry, to avoid suspicion while pawning them.

Moreno’s two daughters, who were 6 and 2, were unharmed when Torres took them along as he sought drugs.

Oh, he suffocated and beat a mother to death so he could score drug money…no guns at all…I guess this isn’t much of a news story, huh?

Random Swamp Donkey

Saw this the other day and decided it need to be shared with the Blog World

Yep, A U-Haul truck with a big Swamp-Donkey (AKA Moose for those of you from away) But also what’s neat is its advertising the Saskatchewan Sand Dunes

…so its Come to Saskatchewan, we have sand. Not a big selling point, given they have sand in New Jersey too… Cape Cod and Florida are totally made of that shit too.

Just sayin’

“Gun Death” Memorial Party

What a bizarre and Ironic tale.

A party that a man was holding in memory of his mother turned deadly early Sunday when he and another man were fatally stabbed and several people were injured, according to police and a relative.

So there is a memorial party and a fight breaks out and several people are stabbed to death. Wow, no sense of decency huh? Of course a “Knife Death” is much better than “Gun Death” so the family who spent the day cleaning blood off their lawn and furniture after a memorial party turned into a crime scene can rest easy to know it was ONLY a stabbing, right?

For Jesse

Oh BTW while driving back to the North Country Jesse had a CD of Ernest Cline in the player. This bit is a riot.

Reminded me of this video that Jesse hadn’t seen.

Good stuff!

Fun Evening

Just got home from Boston. Jesse and I went into Bean-Town to see Chris Hardwick of The Nerdist was a really great show, and we had nice seats. He’s a damn funny guy. Nerd Humor at its finest!

Good times, and we did enjoy our Burritos!

Neat Review

Linoge links this video of a review of a Remington R1 1911

Remington Model 1911 R1 Review (full version) from Eric Ebbinghaus on Vimeo.

Pretty solid review. I must say I handled an R1 at last year’s NRA con and I liked the look of it, its a solid little “Mil Spec” M1911 with a few updates and modern changes, at a VERY competitive price. I love the idea of reasonably priced 1911s, as its the gun platform that hooked me into shooting. Also if its well made cheap 1911s become even cheaper used 1911s, and I love to see good guns accessible to a broad range of markets, not just to people who can afford to drop a grand or two on a pistol.

Of course I am left with a pang of skepticism, only because the R1 is so affordable because of different manufacturing techniques over the old-school forged and machined 1911s of the Day. But the future marches on and I’d love to see modern manufacturing be able to make as good a 1911 as the pros can cobbled together with custom machining.

Threat Assessment

So I found this video and it really got me worked up.

The full video can be found here

I’m really not going to Monday-Morning QB this specific video. The man’s a cop, I’m not. He heard there was a nut with a gun and he went TO that location rather than myself who would get as far from that location as possible.

Also I’m very glad to hear that the worst of his injuries is he is now light an eye, and has some scarring. I wonder what the guy was using for a shot load, I would suspect birdshot as buckshot has a LOT more penetration, and a solid hit to the eye (it could have been a ricochet against the car) likely wouldn’t have stopped in a non-vital spot.

Still watch the unedited video, and see how many times the shotgun is pointed at the officers. We all know how long it takes to squeeze a trigger. Now watch this video…mostly because its funny:

Now after the luscious ball-breaking, check how fast Caleb is going from concealed to firing. The same could go for long-guns say going from African Carry to a shooting position. I’m sure most of us have practiced drills like this with our various defensive arms so that we can go from our carry positions. Now go from holster or sling carry to low ready and look at your times. Feels almost like cheating doesn’t it?

So now back to the Story at hand, the officer is VERY lucky to be alive. He got shot by a shotgun that had been pointed at him multiple times. Furthermore he was called to this location as a known disturbance.

From us non Law Enforcement-types we just need to remember that once your opponent is at low-ready type position, you do not even have seconds after he decides to act against you.

New VC

Had a great time last night. It was a bit more serious than most, and Alan was amazed we stayed on topic as long as we did. I’d be interested to hear what you all thought about it.

So its VC #89 Smug Robe

Enjoy!
