Ides of March

I don’t weather its astrological or meteorological spring, but today marks the Weer’d Beard official start of spring. Back in my days cruising with the fishing fleets anything after March 15th you’d generally see much better weather and less freak storms.

Back on land our snow is almost all gone. Its only around where its collected in Banks is it still with us. I’ll be happy to see it all go.

Oh and yesterday it was SNOWING…nothing stuck, but seeing white flakes after this winter just pissed me off.

Enjoy the weather, people. Also when I think of Ides of March I think of Julius Caesar, and well…Ides of March

“Gun Death” Wild West

So whenever gun laws are relaxed the forces of soiled britches say that blood will run in the streets, life will become a nightmare, and there will be Wild West-Style shoot-outs over parking spaces.

A man accused of punching a woman so hard in a dispute over a Manhattan parking spot that she fell into a coma said on Monday he was acting in self defense.

Where was this? Gun Control haven, New York City!

Frankly I’d rather spend a day in a saloon in Dodge city in the 1870s than spend the night in Central Park in New York City tonight. Sorry modern drug gangs are far more scary than the cattle rustlers and gunslingers of the old West.

Oh and those predictions are total bullshit.

Be Safe

Seems even in the most restrictive pseudo-Police States you are never really safe.

House break-ins skyrocketed 24 percent in Boston last year, shattering the security of renters and homeowners who say they learned the hard way the importance of deadbolting doors, keeping lights on and eyes open….• In 2010, only 11 percent of the 2,846 reported home break-ins were solved. The previous year, only 14 percent of the 2,282 reported breaks were solved. Nationally, the clearance rate for burglaries is about 12 percent, according to the FBI.

that’s an 89% unsolved case rate…87% Nationally. Doesn’t that make you feel good?

Thieves get in through unlocked doors and windows about 50 percent of the time, he said.

Don’t make it easy for them. Also alarms, and security lights are always a good thing.

The crimes often happen when residents aren’t home, giving crooks time to escape.

Don’t become a statistic, just in case you home is a home invasion, or the criminal doesn’t realize the house is occupied, have a home defense plan.

This is just one more instance where you can’t depend on the police.

“Gun Death” I’ve been there

Bizzare tale.

Authorities say a south Louisiana man has been accused of murder after driving for about six hours with his wife’s body before entering a police station to say he killed her…The woman apparently had been stabbed to death.

Another “gun death” case. But what’s with the “I’ve Been There” title?

McDavid says that the woman apparently was killed after an argument over where the couple should eat

OMG! This is what I came home to today! It drives me up the wall! The wife is Miss Picky about where we eat, and super indecisive! I’ll eat anywhere, I just don’t want to hear the plans changed 5 times before we actually order food.

Of course when all of this going on I had a cocked-and-locked .45 on my person.

But my Wife is still alive….

So much for “Gun Death”

Relaxing Weekend

Light posting. Been spending most of this weekend doing chores, watching movies, and enjoying this pleasant weather. Chores and walks do not make for good blog fodder.

Movies do. So we started off the day with Scot Pilgrim vs. the World which came highly recommended by Uncle Jesse. I’m glad he did because I enjoyed the film, but it came at a cost. First up the film is PAINFULLY slow to start, the first half-hour is a total drag. Also the Protagonist, and title character, Scot Pilgrim is a total pussy, wimp, and beta-male. Now that makes him a very unsympathetic protagonist, which is never a plus for a movie. Losers like that I don’t mind if bad things happen to them. (BTW this is the sole reason why I strongly disliked District 9…bad things were happening to the protagonist, and I really didn’t care) That being said the fact that Scot Pilgrim is such a wimp and loser does add to the amusement of the massive boss-fights throughout the film. The film is filled with video-game and Anime sight gags, so if you’re a fan of Anime and games (specifically Video games of the 80s and 90s), if you aren’t, maybe this isn’t the film for you.

BTW after watching Scott Pilgrim I felt an insatiable need to play through River City Ransom

We also watched Shutter Island on Netflix instant-watch (Its nice to see a recent release big-boxoffice flic on instant-watch), I won’t go into great depth with this film, but its a kickass period psychological thriller with some great cinematography, an amazing cast with the acting you should expect from such pros. Loved it.

One dud I watched was The Kids Are All Right, of which I watched a whopping 20 mins of before realizing that there is nothing in this film for me. The Characters are deeply flawed assholes, who on top of being total jerks are pretty boring people.

Frankly from my viewing of it it seems the ONLY reason why this film is considered remarkable is because the main characters are gay domestic partners, and they are being played by traditional leading ladies. Its essentially the adopted kid seeks out birth parents story…or closer is the steaming turd Made in America where its a child searching out a sperm donor.

If either Julianne Moore, or Annette Bening had been replaced by a leading man nobody would have said a word about this film.

I also have The Vulture on lone from coworker which I should also watch.

That’s my weekend sofar. Hope yours is as good!

“Gun Death” Torture

This is another brutal one.

Jorge Barahona, 53, is accused of punching his daughter to death on Feb 11 following a lengthy torture session in which the girl was kept bound at the hands and feet and left in a bathtub. Carmen Barahona, 60, is also charged with first degree murder.

Really gross story.
