A Case of Need

Had an interesting idea for a post. So I need to shovel some snow, so this post helps me procrastinate. Also my shoulder holster makes my shoulders ache more when I shovel so I stripped off my carry gear dropped it on the armory bench and snapped a picture:

So there it is. My S&W1911Sc Commander, with my two Wilson Combat reloads (total of 25 rounds of .45 ACP +P JHP ammo) my wallet, my Droid2 smartphone (loaded to my blog just for the sake of being meta) my CRKT Notorious folder, and my keys with my CRKT Gekkota

I thought about a variation of this photo but with my CZ82 which is both a very good carry gun (especially given you can get them for around $200!) and feeds 9x18mm from 12 round double-stack magazines, but the point is moot.

You see the antis have found an amusing little debate point. Owning a 33 round Glock magazine is generally kinda silly. There are a few good ideas, like owning a 9mm Carbine that eats from Glock boxes, I know competitive shooters carry a single monster-mag as the stick to top-off their gun before each run of a stage. Load the mag once, and use it to top off your gun for 30 stage runs it makes perfect sense. I heard one person say an extended magazine is his night-stand mag as you don’t sleep in a gunbelt, so you likely won’t be carrying a reload if something goes bump in the night.

They’re all good arguments, but it is an interesting point. While the Glock 19 is a great carry gun, it IS damn near impossible to conceal with a 33 round box fixed (easier to conceal if you carry the big stick as a reload), and it does really alter the balance, size and weight of the gun. Certainly I seem to do just fine with 25 rounds spread between 3 8-round magazines and a chamber.

Of course also the anti’s argument falls flat in that they aren’t banning magazines that hold more than 30 rounds, but magazines that hold more than TEN!!!! (and they’re calling them “Clips” to boot!)

But let’s disregard that, and let’s disreguard all you people who carry 10+ capacity guns. (I include fellow Masshole Jay who carries a 13 round mag as a reload)

I point out that the term “Anti-Gun” is a bit of a misnomer, given that the same people who banned guns in the UK also banned knives. The same people who banned guns in New York banned knives, trans-fat, and are trying to ban salt and cigarettes.

They are anti-freedom (and pro ignorance).

I’ll openly admit that while I carry my 1911 every day, and while I’ve been VERY glad to have it on me in a few ugly situations, I’ve never had to draw it from the holster to defend my life.

But my pocket knife is illegal in the UK. Its also likely illegal in New York, Delaware, and likely my own state of Massachusetts. But I use it every day for work. Its great for opening boxes, cutting feed sacks, and generally being a tool used by a tool-using organism. I use it damn near every day at home as well.

The CRKT Gekkota is also really useful. Its nice to have a small multi-tool with you in your pocket (I need to do a product review on this great little tool!) it has a knife that’s a hair over 1″, as well as a bottle opener, and a screwdriver. Most places don’t ban such a small knife, still as somebody who knows human anatomy quite well I could easily kill a human with a 1″ knife. BTW a 1″ knife remind you of another tool we may all have around the home or office?

Yep that’s just laying around the labs. Great tools, but they’ve taken on a stigma.

yeah, that.

The bottom line all of these tools are on the radar of those who hate freedom. They talk about need, but they make the case pretty clear they really don’t give a flying fuck if you need a tool or not. if they don’t like it, they’ll look to ban it as best they can.

These are not people to compromise with, these are people who need to be crushed politically and socially.

Nothing less!

BTW title ganked from a fantastic book from an author who I deeply miss.

Why Are Anti-Gun Activists so Violent

Just to continue a theme done by Say Uncle let us refresh you with one Alan Baird. He wrote, and then disappeared this angry anti-gun post, which Linoge took the time to preserve forever.

He still has this angry anti-gun post up at his site here. including some bizarre posturing about buying guns himself. Trust me Alan, I know bad guys have guns, and while you’re an asshole, some of them are actually a real threat, not just a man who’s only brave when he’s hiding behind a keyboard and comment moderation.

I check his blog occasionally just to see if I can find some amusing pearls. Well today I did. He starts off with just the standard contempt for all people that seems to come standard with authoritarian lefties. (BTW why do they seem to always pitch laws for “our own good” when they hold so much contempt for us? I mean when somebody pitches socialized medicine or bans on caffeinated adult beverages on grounds of common good but then writes: “And from what I could tell via overheard snippets of conversation, these folks were largely idiots. Our babysitter/warden was disappearing for hours at a time, probably drinking to ease the existential pain of her job.” Am I to believe you’re expressing philanthropy, or simply shoving cattle into the slaughterhouse? ) Still the money quote was here:

I decided to go Full A**hole: “Can you turn it OFF?”

By this time, everyone was following our tête-à-tête with bated breath. The annoying little b*stard replied: “No.”

So I stood up. He was a short guy. I’m six-foot. As I started to move in his direction, I could see the fear in his eyes. Had he pushed his luck a little too far?

But I just wanted to get the h*ll out. As I brushed past him, he half-raised his hands to ward off any blows. I laughed.

I’d say that in a court of law there’s nothing criminal done here. Still I think we all know that Alan was intentionally physically intimidating somebody smaller than him.

Any wonder why he hates the idea of lawful people owning and carrying guns (tho seeming comfortable enough to claim to own and carry himself)? Psychological Projection would point that other people WANT to bully him, but don’t because they’re physically smaller, and he knows a gun makes physical size irrelevant. Also given that Mr. Baird seems so smug about using physical intimidation, who knows if he would actually go further (I would suspect overall he’s a coward, but he’s also not particularly bright, or clear-headed, so taking a swing or grabbing a weapon when somebody doesn’t bow to his wishes doesn’t seem to outlandish a thought) but certainly Mr. Baird doesn’t want to be in a condition where somebody is responding to his aggressive violence with defensive violence.

Also go read the whole thing and tell me if you don’t think everybody in the room was much happier that the angry leftist bully had decided to sod off alone.

He talks himself up like a folk hero, do you think he really believes that?

“Gun Death”…kinda

Just couldn’t help but think of the “Gun Death?” angle on this story, even tho nobody was hurt (thankfully)

An MBTA bus driver, who was allegedly found with an open bottle of vodka in his left jacket pocket while on duty, pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges today and was released on personal recognizance.

John McCarthy, 61, declined to speak with reporters as he left the Somerville District Court this morning. The veteran MBTA employee was allegedly driving drunk in Somerville on Friday night when he rear-ended a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Medford Street and McGrath Highway.

What do you think is more dangerous, me with a .45 under my coat, or a man behind the wheel of a public transit bus and a head full of vodka?

Again, thankfully nobody was hurt, that was ONLY luck.

Snow Falling

Yep MORE snow, and no it hasn’t been above freezing since the last storm, so there has been like ZERO melting. Oh and more snow tomorrow.

I’d like to send this song out to winter everywhere!

“Gun Death” Cascade

Wow this is a crazy story!

A fatal hit-and-run in Hawthorne left one man dead, a good Samaritan injured by another car when she attempted to help, and the motorist who stopped to check on her after allegedly striking her beaten and robbed by a mob of bystanders…Several pedestrians who saw the two cars hit the man ran to him to try to help. One of the good Samaritans was running across Crenshaw Boulevard toward the victim when she was hit by another motorist traveling southbound.
That motorist stopped to check on the woman, but as he did so, he was attacked by a mob of bystanders.

Cars and Angry Mobs! These are deadly forces that anti-rights advocates discount when they use the metric “Gun Death”

Teaser

So I just sent an email to another local talk show host about an absoulte SLAUGHTER of John Rosenthal of Stop Handgun Violence. I’ll give you a teaser on Michael Graham’s blog

Hopefully I’ll have the radio audio up soon, it was quite spectacular.

Its nice to see the antis face a real debate rather than a padded panel of shills, and on the Boston stage none-the-less!

Jack LaLanne: Dead at 96

yep, you heard it right, Jack LaLanne is dead. Seems it was pnumonia that managed to kill the fitness guru. He’s technically before my time, but I remember reading articles about him in various fitness and guy magazines showing him well into his 80’s and in amazing health. Hell I just found this blog post with loads of pictures if you’re curious on who I’m talking about.

Oh and Jack LaLanne penned one of my favorite sayings. I believe it was Stuff magazine, I can’t remember the exact quote, but the man giving the interview had come over to his house to attempt his workout when Jack was in his late 80s. When the guy was on the floor gasping for air he asked Jack if at his age he needed Viagra. Jack said ‘Every morning I wake up with an erection so hard the cat can’t scratch it!’

I’ll end with a quote from his Nephew:

“It’s kind of a shock,” said his nephew, Thomas LaLanne of Mill Valley. “I didn’t think Jack was ever going to die. He would tell people, ‘I can’t die. It’ll ruin my image.’ “

“Gun Death” Sword

Those who use the metric “Gun Death” seem to imply the world was better before guns and gunpowder, and it would be better to return to those times.

Police say they gunned down a sword wielding man suspected of stabbing both his girlfriend and her teen-aged daughter. The girlfriend later died, but the suspect is at ECMC and the daughter is at Women & Children’s Hospital.

Good thing the police had guns because proportionate force is only a good thing for the bad guy!
