So I have been talking with Jeff Katz of the Jeff Katz Show (A great morning drive show in a city where the Morning drive is Split between Don Imus, and Convicted Felon Tom Finneran, but even against those jerks he’s top notch, so don’t think I’m damning with faint praise. Its the morning drive news radio that keeps this blog rolling, and I thank Jeff for his great show, and I also thank Jeff and his staff for sending me the Larry Pratt Interview that I first talked about here.

You should listen to the whole thing, but if you must, skip to the 4:00 mark to hear him admonish the Congresswoman who is currently recovering in the hospital for not supporting the 2nd Amendment enough, and supporting Nancy Pelosi. At 4:50 he actually states the party affiliation of the shooting victims as if that is the least bit relevant.
I’m sorry Larry, but from all I can gather you are a 2nd Amendment supporter second, and a Democrat hater first. While I myself am a Republican I strongly stand that the 2nd Amendment (as well as the rest of the Bill of Rights) are NON PARTISAN issues. On top of all of that, you showed a level of insensitivity that I found quite repulsive.
Listen to the interview, then re-read my call for everybody to drop their GOA Membership. They are not an organization that people who respect the 2nd Amendment should support.

This story was sent to me, and before I read the email I read the story online and thought the same thing. “Gun Death?”
A male model confessed Sunday to killing a gay journalist in a Times Square hotel – and gave cops a twisted explanation of why he sexually mutilated his victim, sources said.
Renato Seabra, 20, told cops he used a corkscrew to sever 65-year-old Carlos Castro’s genitals as a way to cure the older man of his homosexuality, the police sources said.
Seabra was charged with second-degree murder, police said Monday.
Well corpses are rarely homosexual, but I don’t think that was the intent….YOUCH!
But thank goodness a gun wasn’t used, and thank goodness New York City does so much to restrict civilian access to firearms…right?

Keep in mind that the Constitution can be changed. That is what the Tea Party is trying to do with the 14th Amendment. You could have 2nd Amendment today and gone tomorrow. The Constitution wasn’t written in stone.
YEAH, the constitution can be Amended, kinda like when they prohibited alcohol, then removed that amendment. If there was a constitutional convention that ruled that the 2nd Amendment was invalid and was repealed, that would be totally OK, and I’d have to give up my guns!
That’s how the Constitution works, and how its supposed to work. I’m sure Ubu was just trolling, but there’s a reason why I’m drawing attention to this.
I WELCOME HER TO TRY IT! Gun control has no support, so it will not be able to muster a Constitutional Convention. So its all wishful thinking of an anti-rights troll.

So Thirdpower makes a post about how the anti-rights bigots have latched onto some more poorly thought-out rhetoric, which is “Why do you need a 30 round magazine?”. This of course is a re-run of “Why do you need an ‘Assault Weapon?'”, and the most basic “Why do you need a gun?”
Let’s step back from the guns for a bit. The wife and I have emergency savings. In the event that one of us loses our job we can cover all expenses for about a year before the money runs out. If it happened to be both of us (God Forbid) It would be closer to 8 Months.
Now we don’t NEED this money, and right now its just gaining interest at a modest rate. It would likely earn more if we invested it in stocks, or used it to pay down our mortgage, or it would give us more enjoyment if we spent it on a luxury item.
But we have it for an emergency when we might need extra cash either for some emergency (like installing a sump pump at 10:00 at night) or one of us loses our job.
When an Emergency or a job loss happens, we won’t be able to save up the money THEN, we need to do it BEFORE.
There are lots of other things that work like this. First aid kits, and the training to use them. Fire Extinguishers. Insurance of any type. AND GUNS!!!
My home is currently secure, and I am not in danger. But if I were to suffer a home invasion RIGHT NOW, I would much rather be reaching for a shotgun (tho in this current situation I’d be likely grabbing the FAL or my 1911) than heading to the local gunshop…or going over to my neighbor’s house and negotiation a price on one of his guns.
No I don’t NEED a gun right now, but there ARE situations where I would NEED a gun and need it in such short order that unless I am without a gun I’m in a world of hurt. So in that sense its pretty stupid NOT to have a gun. I don’t fault people for stupidity, but I’d rather not participate.
And of course now that I have my “Working Guns” (In my case its two 1911s, a Mossberg 590, and an FAL…Caleb has pointed out that that puts me in Heavy Metal Class), I should have a few training guns in .22, so I can spend more range time for less money. And with all those guns, what’s the harm in some collector’s peices and family Heirloom.
So no, you anti-freedom jerks, I don’t need to justify my rights or my possessions. I have no NEED for a Blue Ray DVD player and a widescreen TV, but I damn enjoy them! But when it comes to my guns, I just justified them RIGHT there.

Why be so specific? My Goal is to reduce Violence in total. Isn’t that a better goal? By the narrow definition you give, a 100% decline (total zero) in “Gun Violence”, but a 100% INCREASE in total violence (so 2X, where X is the current violent crime rate) would be considered a victory for you.
Same with an increase in other violence at the rate of decrease of gun violence….so just the same number of people hurt and killed, but non by gun, is a victory by the perimeters you set.
Does that make any sense at all?

So President Obama held a Memorial for thd victims of the Arizona shooting, and like anything he ran it like a campaign rally complete with applause and cheering, as well as handing out T-Shirts.
Classy stuff there, Mr. President. Did you pour some of your 40 on the ground for the dead before before you introduced Jimmy Buffet?

A true tale of horror is being reported in which an American woman is fighting for her life and her fiance and three members of his family are dead after his uncle allegedly set them all ablaze at a dinner in their honor at his home in Puerto Rico…After the 14 guests had sat down for dinner, the paper reported that Sanchez Diaz, emerged with a blowtorch and set the walls — which were doused with kerosene — on fire. He also had placed fuel canisters under the table, the paper reported. He then set the guests ablaze, too.
To Parrot the Anti-Rights Quacks, why do we need blow torches and Kerosene? Its not like we need them to hunt! There should be background checks and mental health evaluations, and extensive registration and permitting before people can buy fuel oils, or blow torches! ITS FOR THE CHILDRENZ!!!!
