The Internet is Weer’d….

So Linoge remarks on the miracles of modern technology, and makes a Star Trek reference demanding a tribble.
BobG in the Comments has the same reaction I do about tribbles which is to recoil in horror. But thinking further on it I note that it WOULD be kind of cool to go to a shooting range where the backstop is seeded with tribbles. Just splatter them with pistol and rifle fire and wait for them to grow back. Which lead me wonder what exactly is INSIDE a tribble. Well a google search of “Tribble Anatomy” yielded me this page.

Doesn’t surprise me in the LEAST! For that is how the internet works, it is a strange place, and not for the faint of heart!

Shameless

A bunch of people have been talking about Paul Helmke’s latest screed. I just wanted to take my spin on this dorky quote:

Yes, Virginia, if you believe in Santa Claus then you’ll believe there is a significant difference worth debating between the killing efficiency of a fully automatic assault weapon and a semi-automatic assault weapon. But understand, the finger-twitch variation is not enough to reduce the bloody heaps of bodies that keep piling up in communities across our fruited plains. The National Rogue Association knows that. And so, thankfully, does Andrew Traver.

Wow the old “Finger-twitch” talking point. Wasn’t true back in 1994 when you lobbied for the “Assault Weapon Ban”, wasn’t true in 2004 when you attempted to keep it from being shitcanned, and oddly enough it still isn’t true today. Is anybody buying this crap? Also look at the PDF he links when he says “bloody heaps of bodies that keep piling up” its an internal “Study” (of course) that talks about “Assault weapons violence” where the majority of the post don’t actually contain anybody getting hurt. Also given that like their VPC brothers don’t actually link news stories you can’t tell the validity of the story. I mean how many times have you read “AK-47” in a news report only to have it turn out to be an SKS, or some other rifle? And of course the WASR-10 had a welded muzzle-cap and the bayonet lug ground off, and mothballed 1980s magazines, so the “Assault Weapons Ban” didn’t exactly apply to it. Same with the FAL I bought which has a crowned muzzle and a thumbhole stock, and surplus magazines.

These guys really sound like the people who call the late-night supernatural Radio shows who tell the host without a hint of Irony that they have ESP, or have been abducted by Aliens, or routinly see Skunkape while camping. The host of course knows this brand of 40-cats-crazy is good radio, but the rest of us can only roll our eyes or laugh till out side split.

Bizzare Case

This story is all over the news right now, and its a really strange one.

The teenager found dead on a Milton street last week is the 16-year-old who disappeared from his father’s house in North Carolina, authorities confirmed last night….The body had been found with broken bones and evidence of massive trauma, especially to the head. A preliminary autopsy did not specify a cause of death.

Two people with knowledge of the investigation said the body looked like it had been run over by a vehicle.

Two vehicles matching the description of vehicles leaving the scene that night, including a white Audi with a Curry College sticker, were impounded.

Officials are also awaiting toxicology reports that might provide more clues about what happened to the teen….A Charlotte police report has stated he was last seen at 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, but Laura said that Tisdale’s younger brother, who shared a room with him, saw him in bed at 1:30 Monday morning.

Laura said the family believes he must have disappeared well before 5:30 a.m., which is when Tisdale’s stepmother usually gets up to make sure the children are getting ready for school….Relatives are trying to understand how the teen got to Milton, which is 900 miles away from his home, in less than a day.

Now that’s a VERY strange case. I will note that Jay and I taking turns at the wheel made it from my place just north of Boston to Charlotte in 14 hours, and that included one long stretch of road construction, but it was not a journey taken lightly. Even more heartbreaking are these details.

When Delvonte, who is part of his school’s ROTC, did not return, the family contacted police….Some of Tisdale’s relatives have said he has run away in the past and had had friction with his father, a chef who neighbors said forbade his children from listening to rap music and wearing baggy pants.

Man sounds like this young life was heading places before it got cut short violently. There is more to this story, but who knows if it’ll ever fully be unraveled.

My heart goes out to the family, nobody deserves this.

Also on a final note because the murder weapon was a car I tagged this “Gun Death?”.

“Gun Death” Korean Gamers

In internet circles you often find jokes about Korean Gamers. Well it seems they are as hardcore as the legends say.

South Korean police say a 15-year-old boy has committed suicide after killing his mother in a fight over Internet games.

Police official Jung Yo-il said Tuesday that the student hanged himself. Jung says the boy’s mother had been strangled in their home in the southeastern port city of Busan.

Seems South Korea’s strict restrictions on personal firearms didn’t do much to prevent both a murder AND a suicide. Obviously we must ban Computer games and broadband internet….or something.

More Government Stupid

Armed raids on raw food sellers and farms. What’s with the drawn guns?

Is unpasteurized milk and cheese and uncooked meat more dangerous then the normal stuff you see at local big grocery chain? Yep. Is it a “Death Ray”? nope, and I’d certainly say responsibly pouring raw milk on your cornflakes every morning is probably a lot safer than smoking a pack of luckies every day. Of course you can BUY luckies….

We don’t drink a ton of Milk here, and we’ve taken to soy milk for our milk consumption because the wife prefers it and it seems to keep better. We do keep some shelf-stable milk around for cooking and such. Stuff comes in little “juice boxes” and keeps forever at room temperature. But I drank a cup of it out of curiosity and it taste like shit because of the extra processing. I’m betting raw milk tastes pretty good.

Certainly our police have better things to do than raid boutique markets….

Obama Doubles Down on Stupid

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

First up, Barry, the new pat downs wouldn’t have stopped the Underwear Bomber, but as I said to commenter “Kadoby” in response to his sheep-like bleat. This shit is a total violation of the 4th Amendment, and human dignity, and I’d likely oppose it on principal…but all that is irrelevant as the TSA has stopped NOTHING! The TSA has discovered NOTHING, the TSA have prevented NO terrorists from boarding planes. The most recent terrorist attacks on this country (The Underwear Bomber, and the Time Square Bomber, as well as the toner cartridge bombs) were all foiled by Big #1, Terrorist incompetence. They made some dumb mistakes, and if they had been just a LITTLE bit smarter they likely would have succeeded. End story, full stop. But even with their incompetence, the TSA didn’t confiscate or apprehend jack-or-shit. The mess was cleaned up by old fashioned law enforcement and intelligence.

So we can talk about the price we have to pay. But the price we’re paying buys us NOTHING! We are no more safe WITH the TSA, than we were before they were created. We are a lot poorer, and now we have a high school dropout touching your penis and testicles, and twisting your breasts. Why are we still arguing?Ummm…OK, so how about this as a compromise. We disband the TSA TODAY, and also legalize prostitution so Gloria Allred can have her whisker biscuit pinched.

In all seriousness, we have the power to do this. We have a MASSIVE freshman class getting sworn into the legislature soon. WRITE them. It doesn’t have to be a post letter, their offices read emails. They also log phone calls. You voice WILL be heard, but ONLY if you speak up!

“Gun Death” Prison

Found this story:

New pictures published by the London Daily Mail show just how bad former financier Allen Stanford was injured after other inmates attacked him at a jail in Conroe.

In prison even the guards don’t carry guns to prevent inmates from getting them. I’m sure Mr. Stanford appreciates that….

Vote for Commie!

It’ll make you orgasm…or something…

Note no discussion on WHY this woman was so…er…thrilled to vote, just a “look at her!” sorta thing. This is the same marketing technique that would be used to persuade somebody to chose their brand of cigarettes or corn flakes or cola. Just vote for us on total impulse! Makes sense when you think about it.

And don’t be sheepish and think you’ll be experiencing La petite mort for living under a Socialist regime. You’ll be getting the big one. Yep

Survival

Being a Research Librarian I think Breda stumbled upon this while researching her latest post.

Awesome little kit, tho no means to make the mixture cold. You could simply tuck the container into a freezer, or better yet the little slot where the ice cubes are jet-frozen. Or you could have one of thems chemical ice-packs.

Then again, if I’m in such a situation where I’m using a candy tin as a shaker and a piece of paper as a glass, I would say that a quick snort off a hip flask filled with gin and vermouth, or just gin…or just about any distilled spirit would get me out of whatever hardship I’m in with less effort.

Still I admire the ingenuity. Also the little plug made from a water pistol is AWESOME!
