How to be the Underdog

So Local Radio host Howie Carr had a PETA activist on his show as a holiday tradition, and I got thinking about it.

This guy’s MO is essentially guilt fueled by junk-science (I rest my case) and dietary science oversimplified and skewed to the maximum bias. (Like he claimed obesity and heart disease rates are simply from people eating meat to excess, without ever considering the sedentary lifestyle of Americans, or our availability of inexpensive high-calorie food)

He can’t even claim that there are any rewards to going vegan except for the smug joy that you’re better than everybody else (and even that requires a true-believer religious fervor), because even he admits that a vegan diet does not taste as good as a full omnivore diet.

This reminds me of the plight of the anti-gunner. They offer you LESS personal protection for the sake of overall safety (which they will “prove” with a Brady Campaign or Joyce Foundation “Study”) they limit what hobbies you will engage in, and like to trumpet that criminals who skirt the laws on murder and violence will suddenly recoil in horror if their local dealer who sells crack and guns out of the trunk of his car is suddenly required by law to conduct a federal background check. (yuck yuck! :D)

Is it a wonder why their support is drying up like crazy.

“Gun Death” Toddler

Brace Yourself, this is one of those really bad ones….

LOS ANGELES—Authorities say a Compton man has been arrested on suspicion of the fatal beating of his live-in girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter.

If only LA had stronger gun control laws maybe it could have prevented this jerk from beating a toddler to death.

At least that’s how it sounds if you listen to those who are fixated with “Gun Death”.

You Know Who Designed That?

I won’t lie, I stopped reading Harry Potter after the 4th book because I’ve read many sucky Fantasy Series, and I know one when I see one. I also stopped watching the movies after the abomination that was the 3rd one. That being said This could get me into Harry Potter again.

Who needs magic when you have a 1911 and 230gr Hollow Points?

Good Photoshop

Smith & Weston’s .410 Double Trouble Autoloader
New for 2011

Click on over, they did a neat job making an impossible gun look possible. If you know what you’re looking for its kinda funny to see some of the things that just wouldn’t work. Like the gun doesn’t appear to have an extractor, or that the top “hammer” doesn’t have anything to pivot on. or that it would take an act of God to remove that barrel bushing.

The article is laugh-out-loud funny too!

Oh and what’s most hilarious is also sad. I suspect if this gun existed as shown the “selectable trigger” which would allow either barrel to fire in sequence or simultaneously I suspect might be considered a “Machine Gun” by the ATF and its stupid laws. I know for a fact smooth-bore pistols are considered NFA items as an “AOW”.

Still go read the whole thing. Here’s a taste:

A Passive Aggressive Fired Cartridge Detection System® took a little getting use to as it doesn’t display any obvious signs of status or condition. The system will eject a fired cartridge, or a misfiring cartridge, however, it also can silently and arbitrarily undermine the gun’s cartridge extraction system and leave the cartridge in place… or pack up and take the kids and move in with its mother while the DT is at work… trying to make a living for its family. The important thing is that all of the gun’s systems have learned to get along harmoniously… for the sake of the chil…parts.

Har!

DGU Home Invasion

Uncle links this story about a Home Invasion.

A woman shot and killed a man during a South Knoxville home invasion robbery after the intruder had struggled with and shot her husband, authorities said this morning.

A second interloper escaped, apparently uninjured, and was being sought by police.

Notice the picture of the Departed in the story. That doesn’t look like a coroner’s photo, nor does it look like one submitted to the press by his Mom. Seems Mr. B&E is known by the police. Funny how that works. This happened just before 9pm, so hardly in the “middle of the night”, also hubby was caught off guard, and his wife ended up defending the home.

Lessons to be learned. Always have a gun close at hand when answering the door to an unknown caller. Every able bodied person should be proficient with your home defense weapon(s) (not only might it save your life, but the only way to prevent gun accidents in the home is to teach proper safe gun handing). You should practice readying home defense guns, under pressure if possible.

It could save your life.

Oh and note that this story is in fact a Gun Death, and I don’t have much problem with it, but the people who think it is a valid metric will use this number as if its a bad thing.

Be safe people!

The Scary thing is I’m not Surprised

The Mattapan Multi-Murderer has killed before.

Dwayne Moore, 33, of Mattapan, was charged with four counts of murder, one count of assault with intent to murder, and a host of supporting counts. Authorities say he pulled the trigger Sept. 28 on Woolson Street, killing Levaughn A. Washum-Garrison, 22; Simba Martin, 21; Eyanna Flonory, 21; and her 2-year-old son, Amani Smith, in a long-troubled section of Mattapan.

Moore also allegedly shot and critically injured a fifth man, Marcus Hurd, 32. Moore will be arraigned today in Dorchester District Court….Moore has a criminal record and was recently released after spending several years in state prison….Moore, then 19, had challenged 17-year-old Keema Jarius Braxton to a fight, according to court records, but Braxton did not want to fight Moore, who outweighed him by 40 pounds.

Scared, Braxton pulled a knife to defend himself, but Moore wrestled the knife from him and fatally stabbed Braxton in the neck.

Chris Fallon, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Correction. said Moore was released in April from the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley.

Out in April from a “Manslaughter” charge (tho it sounds like he murdered somebody who was attempting to defend himself) and back on the street shooting women and children in September. Obviously we need stricter gun control laws so ex-cons in one of the most anti-gun cities in one of the most anti-gun states can’t murder 4 people and critically wound a fifth.

Hey, anti-rights advocates, guess what? Guns aren’t the issue here. The issue is that this monster was only breathing free-air for a few MONTHS before he got himself involved in the largest mass-murder in recent history.

Whatever reason this monster was let free, it was a bad one.

Andrew Traver Interview

Big Hat-tip to Robert Farago from The Truth About Guns for digging this clip out.

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcchicago.com/video.

I’m open about it, I don’t like Robert or his blog, I feel he’s one of the “gun rights” people who is still living in the 1990, but I must give credit where it is due.

Love all the anti-gun mistruths. “Can defeat virtually all body armor”, is “totally uncontrollable” (certainly when shooting with the gun tucked under your arm and the butstock in the air) “High Powered Weapon”, and of course the curiocity of the weapon used. First up its obviously a full-auto AK-47 (I think we all know the laws and value of such a piece) but it appears to have a “Post ban” muzzle cap and the bayonet lug ground off. Can anybody who knows Kalashnikov pattern rifles tell me what the story with this gun is?

An AK-pattern rifle is a medium-powered semi-auto rifle. 7.62×39 is an adequate cartridge but hardly “high-powered”, tho it will defeat any ballistic armor designed to stop handgun rounds and shotgun pellets. Armor rated for rifle rounds should stop bullets from this gun as well as anybody can expect. While not known for their accuracy shooting like this (which appeared to be about 50 feet) one should be able to keep all the rounds in a small grouping shooting semi-auto, and with proper gun handling (ie not like the disaster shown on camera…fyi, if you get caught shooting even a .22 rifle like that at a gun club you’ll likely have your membership revoked) one should easily keep all their rounds on target in full-auto.

Either Andrew Traver knows NOTHING about firearms and ballistics, or (more likely) he knows plenty and cooked up his interview to intentionally mislead the public.

This man should NOT be a member of the BATFE, let alone the head of it. Of course I’m generally with Joe that there shouldn’t be a BATFE at all.

Happy Travels

So you face Gate-Rape by Air

And pocket-rape by land.

Gasoline prices will start rising again for the Thanksgiving holiday, one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.

The average price of regular-grade gas in the Dayton area will climb to at least $2.81 a gallon through the holiday, said Jason Toews, co-founder of GasBuddy.com, which monitors gasoline prices in various cities. That compares with $2.73 a gallon on Monday afternoon, according to DaytonGasPrices.com, one of the GasBuddy.com sites.

At least the media is starting to talk about gas prices under the Obama Administration…

“Gun Death” Police Protection

From the United Kingdom.

London police have charged a second man with second-degree murder in the death of Daniel Palmer, found unconscious in a stairwell of a building close to police headquarters.

Not only did gun control not keep this man from being beaten to death, but his close proximity to the police headquarters didn’t seem to do him a lick of good either.

Oh and this jerk is also being charged with beating dogs to death as well. Classy!

Maybe if good people were allowed to carry personal firearms they could dissuade violent beasts from beating them to death….just a thought….

The G33k Hungers

Have a few things worth blogging about tonight. You’re not going to see any of them because I had a few Wii points laying around so I downloaded a copy of the original River City Ransom.

More blogging in the morning! 😀
