The wife of US Representative John F. Tierney became a convicted felon yesterday, pleading guilty to four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns for her brother, a federal fugitive who has been indicted on charges of illegal gambling and money laundering…US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz alleged this week that Patrice Tierney helped her brother, Robert Eremian, manage a bank account that collected more than $7 million in illegal gambling profits over seven years. Over that time, prosecutors allege, Patrice Tierney paid bills for his three children and their ailing mother, balanced the account, and provided information to his tax preparer, resulting in false tax filings, prosecutors said.

Kinda serious charges. So what did her plea land her?

The judge repeatedly warned her of the rights she was waiving with her plea: She could not recant or plead the Fifth Amendment in any ongoing investigation, he warned, and the judge need not agree to the plea deal offered by prosecutors: two years of probation with 90 days home detention, as well as a $2,500 fine and $400 in court costs.

OUCH, that slap on the wrist might leave a mark!! FYI, here in Mass its a $2,000 fine for failing to have health insurance….I guess for $500 more will allow you to launder millions of ill-got money! What about this criminal brother?

Law enforcement officials had been following Patrice Tierney’s brother for years and said he ran a large-scale illegal gambling business in the United States from the early 1980s through the beginning of 2010. State Police raided his Lynnfield office in 1996, leading Eremian to move the business’s headquarters to Antigua, but the business continued underground in Massachusetts, said Assistant US attorney Fred M. Wyshak Jr.

Eremian was convicted in 2002 of tax evasion and money laundering, but persuaded law enforcement and probation officials to let him leave the country the next year to work as a computer consultant to the gaming industry.

You think letting somebody with a criminal history leave the country was a smart idea? Especially to Antigua, which has a reputation only slightly more tame than Nigeria when it comes to internet scams and hacking. You think the fact that his brother-in-law was a sitting congressman had anything to do with it?

Knives, They’re Too Easy!

Of course you know if the gun control bigots every accomplish their goals they won’t stop there but take a page out of the British Police state and Ban Knives

A murder charge was filed today against 25-year-old Marvin Horatio Cipullo of Santa Ana. Cipullo is accused of stabbing his 57-year-old mother, Rebecca Garcia, to death with a kitchen knife in the board-and-care facility that she operated.

I mean do you think if he couldn’t have found a knife he would have still killed his Mother? (Don’t answer truthfully it might pop the delicate soap bubbles of those who belive “Gun Death” is a valuable metric)

Sick Story, and new Tag

This is GROSS, and part of the greater problem with society.

“I got 12 months for a falsified police report and he got probation for raping me and the others,” Ashley said on Friday. “It’s just ridiculous.”

Go read the whole thing, but be warned, if there are fragile objects near you, you may break some of them.

FYI I’ll be adding this tag to older posts, and make this a new topic of discussion. The Anti-Rights people talk about “Gun Death” and banning items, while looking the other way when street thugs and sexual predators freely walk the street. They seem to have the same naivete a friend of mine had when he de-clawed his cat, but still let it roam the yard. He was surprised when Mr. Kitty dropped off his first bird on the front steps post-op. Slowed him down a little, but cats are predators, they need to kill, and will kill if allowed to walk with prey.

Unlike the anti-rights activists I actually care about public safety, so I’ll talk about REAL issues.

Maybe Some Justice

We’ve talked about this case before. Maybe some good news?

Steven Hayes was found guilty today in the deadly home invasion that left a woman and her two daughters brutalized and murdered, making him eligible for the death penalty…Hayes and Komisarjevsky broke into the Petit’s upscale Cheshire home in July 2007 and held them captive for hours, eventually raping Hawke-Petit and Michaela, pouring gasoline in the bedrooms, and setting the house on fire with the daughters tied to their beds.

Only the father, Dr. William Petit, survived. Brutally beaten and left bound in the basement, he managed to make his way out to a neighbor’s home. …Only one individual has been executed in Connecticut since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. That execution occurred in 2005 and was of serial killer Michael Ross, also known as the Roadside Strangler.

Let’s hope the court finds this penalty fitting. I can’t imagine a reason why not.

Also interesting to note that both men were convicts, and Hayes was on Parole, not sure about Komisarjevsky. Obviously they shouldn’t have been out on the streets.

The fact that the death penalty is even in question in this case shows exactly what’s wrong with our judicial system.

My heart goes out to the family, for this crime is truly the most horrible. And I am disgusted again by those who would belittle this crime because the weapons used were a ball bat, rape, and gasoline.

“Gun Death” Pub Glasses

A Local Watering hole switches to plastic.

The Lansdowne Street pub where a man was killed by a broken beer glass early Saturday morning will switch to plastic cups and nonglass bottles until a city licensing hearing next month, a practice Boston officials have used elsewhere to reduce injuries from bar fights.

You think it will help? People who are preoccupied with “Gun Death” will think so.

JUST How I Roll

We all know I’m a huge fan of nethack preferring to roll on the public alt.org server. Tho I had a port for my Windows phone, and now one for my Droid.

And this completely baffled me and I was ready to ignore it and go back to playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on my Nintendo DS when it hit me: All this is, is a text-adventure first-person-shooter. Zork meets Counterstrike.

Heh, Code it and I will play it! And for those wanting to get their text-only RPG shooting on there is of course Slash’em which IMHO is a perfectly good port of nethack ruined with extra bullshit. But Doom Rogue-Like is oodles of fun. Also linked on that page is This Thing of Beauty I have yet to play. Aliens Rogue-like??? Are you Serious? Did somebody make this JUST FOR ME????

For those not aware I had a copy of Aliens on VHS that I actually killed from watching. I estimate that I’ve seen this film (at least in its theatrical release) in excess of 100 times. (The bulk of this was a a year in Highschool where I’d come home from School and watch the film to unwind before doing my homework. Every day for a few months adds up pretty fast…and I’m not afraid to pop in my Special Edition Director’s cut, but I’m not as ravenous these days as I’ve essentially memorized the film).

I know what game I’m gonna play tonight!

Relics

Back when I was taking Anthropology classes you’d often hear about excavations of old dumps, as you can learn a lot about a society from the trash they leave behind. Well MaroonedinMarin has some great pictures from the moonbat rally in Washington. My first impression was “Look at all those professionally printed signs and those identical box-lunches!” Most of the people there were union members, and like most of these rallies they were paid to attend, and of course supplied with signs and boxed lunches. And like in most union shops when the whistle blows at quittin’ time they drop what they were doing and go home. Of course the other photos tell a similar tale.

Compared to the Beck and Tea Party rallies the difference is startling. Of course if somebody made a rally sign themselves, they might want to bring it home, and the old adage “Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints” seems to hold true here as well. You know if you actually CARE about America, you might actually SHOW that you care.

Here’s the Real Problem

Suspect in Mattapan murders has lengthy criminal record

Recently, Washington was featured on a Boston police most wanted show for assaulting his girlfriend. Washington had previously been sentenced to 6 months in jail for assaulting the same woman. In that case, a police report states he threw her down from over his head, then dragged her 100 yards along the ground. He was also charged with assaulting another woman last December.

His record dates back to the nineties, with time served for trafficking cocaine, resisting arrest, assault and battery and larceny. He forged these checks from the city of Boston and cashed them. Washington also has a long list of probation violations, including failing to complete a program for batterers and failing to attend drug testing. A long history that ended with his arrest on Friday in connection with the shooting of five people.

That last tag-line rings hollow to me. “A Long History that ENDED”???? Who says? You see people can talk about Guns, and video games, and music, and poverty, and family values, and religion all they want. But let’s face it while we talk about stuff like this Kimani Washington should not have been in public without a chaperon.

Now he hasn’t been charged with the murders and I’m not going to claim that either….but does it matter? He’s a violent woman beater (sounds like the described case above attempted murder should have been at least considered) a thief, a fraud artist, and a drug dealer.

Now there’s talk that he might be a murderer….who could have guessed??? Answer: EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE GUESSED!

It doesn’t matter what the laws are nor the climate of society is, when monsters like this roam the streets everybody who crosses their paths is in danger.

Oh and Mr. Washington is currently in custody for a high-profile murder case…how many people EXACTLY like Mr. Washington are out there that the media isn’t reporting on?

Be careful out there, the world is a dangerous place, and the people who we entrust with our safety aren’t doing their jobs.

Sports Fans and “Gun Death”

I don’t follow sports, and that makes stories like this really hard to understand.

The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry has always been heated, but during Saturday night’s game, it turned violent inside The Chowder Pot III Restaurant in Branford.

A New York Yankees fan is accused of stabbing a Boston Red Sox fan in the neck.

Yikes, was it the anti-gun people who said if we relaxed conceal carry restrictions people would get in gunfights over parking spaces and other minor encounters.

Patrons of the restaurant said blood was all over the floor.

Police said the two men did not know each other and their beef was solely over baseball.

Blood in the streets indeed…

Freire was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was is listed in critical condition on Sunday.

I hope he makes a full recovery, and I will note that I do not see his injuries as irrelevant as those who trumpet the metric of “Gun Death” do.
