Jay was talking over at his place about a news story I heard where a local school was being used as a polling place for the nation of BRAZIL. Very odd story, I didn’t really pay it much mind, but read the update:
My wife had to go and vote there. It’s a felony for Brazilian citizens to not vote. The money to pay for the polling places in the US comes directly from Brazil, not from the host nation. Specifically, it comes from monetary fines paid by the people who get busted for not voting in the last election.
Jesus. right now I’m often bewildered that our elections are a bunch of hobos begging for change, and a bunch of adult-children voting for Prom king and queen. Can you imagine what a disaster it would be if it was COMPULSORY!??
Was talking politics with a co-worker today. She said “I really don’t like politics, and I tend to avoid it.” I said “That’s fine, just don’t vote!”
I’m totally fine with a med student not going to class….just so long as he doesn’t become a doctor. I’m fine with somebody not fixing my plumbing, so long as they don’t send me a bill. If you don’t care about politics, fine, just sit it out and leave the voting to those of us who care about the issues.
And not this is a non-partisan issue. There are just as many Moonbat Kay’s out there as there are Liberty Freaks like me. Its the people who elect the president on his haircut or his smile, or people who just assume this letter after their name means something are the ones that get us situations like how the world was sick of two terms of George Bush…so we elected a different George Bush for a 3rd Term….
I had to point and laugh at this…like HARD! I guess there was a rally of Moonbats in DC this weekend. As suspected the turnout sucked. One of my favorite frothy-mouthed hate-filled moonbats has this side-splitter to say.
Wha? The One Nation Working Together rally in DC today had a much smaller crowd size than Glenn Beck’s “I Have A Dream For White People” rally on 8/28? But I thought Glenn Beck said the Unions of America and the liberals were dominant over the country, have a ton of power, and that socialism was on it’s way!
Heh, its kinda like America being post-racial when Obama gets elected, but we’re suddenly a bunch of racist peckerwoods when we think his policies suck.
Man some people are gonna need some strong drink and a box of kleenex come November….
**Update**Uncle links a picture of this rally and one of the Tea party rally. Pretty stunning.
Bob gave me this story and some ideas on the spin.
A Fort Worth man faces a murder charge in the stabbing death of his 19-year-old girlfriend, and his 67-year-old grandmother was also arrested, accused of helping him flee police.
So we have the murder weapon, which is a knife, of course flies under the cold-blooded “Progressives” where “Progress” is a stabbed body rather than a shot one. But the bigger picture to me and Bob was Gran’Ma helping the fugitive.
Is the tool at all relevant when you have a network of family and friends willing to help you get away with murder.
I linked this article a few posts ago. In Boston 70% of all murders go unsolved. This is not because we have some sort of Hollywood serial killer master-mind lurking in Dorchester, but that the areas with the highest violent crime rate are controlled by the gangs. First up the Police don’t want to go there if they don’t need to. (Frankly I don’t blame them, you couldn’t pay me enough to go into those sections of town….let alone go into those sections of town wearing a badge and a uniform) And the gang infrastructure is HUGE. So if Mookie shoots Ice-Dawg in a turf war, there might be a dozen witnesses the way the buildings are packed together….but nobody will talk to the police because
#1. If Mookie finds out he’s going to kill you.
#2. If Mookie ends up getting put away before he can kill you, Mookie’s gang compatriots will kill you.
#3. if they can’t find you they’ll kill your family and burn your house down.
Does it matter the tools they have when they have an entire support network for violent crimes?
Post made from the parking lot of a Bed Bath and Beyond on my new Motorola Droid2. Sofar it appears to be very slick, and obviously runs my blog a million times better than my HTC Tilt that died yesterday. Also this browser appears to have a tabs system so I might be able to do real-deal blogging with quoted news articles.
Ok, time to learn how to fly this thing!
Boston man arrested in connection with Mattapan shooting Sounds encouraging right?
He instead faces fugitive from justice charges in New Hampshire and then will be charged in Massachusetts with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of amunition, and receiving a stolen vehicle.
I’m curious on how those charges will stick. Maybe he’ll talk, but let’s face it, all the technology and laws in the world aren’t getting police anywhere.
Also for some partisan hackery, watch the video and note what a drooling moron the Co-Chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns is.
This one is still serious, but a little lighter.
While certain crimes are down at Oktoberfest this year, there have been more attacks with an unlikely, yet readily available, weapon: the one-liter beer stein. Some of the victims have been whisked away in ambulances with concussions and fractured skulls caused by fights involving the heavy glasses.
Brings funny images of fat drunks in Lederhosen getting in brawls. But honestly beer steins can be pretty dangerous if used as a weapon, and certainly cuncussions, skull fractures and ambulance rides are no joke.
Also because she’s a jerk, let’s rag on Joan Peterson of the Brady Campaign and Million Mom March.
The only problem with your logic is that guns just happen to be the leading cause of homicide in the U.S. Other “weapons” or methods don’t come close.
Seems that people with violent intent use the weapon they have at hand. In the US this means our violent criminal element has guns. If the guns were taken away…and say they still had pubware…
Hence why focusing on the tool is foolish behavior of foolish people.
I posted this picture on my LJ a good while back, and never got much response to it. I later bought several books on the Mosin Nagant Rifle, and still was stumped.
What this picture is of is my New England Westinghouse M1891 made sometime between 1915 and 1918 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. On its muzzle is a blade bayonet lug. Now the M1891 pattern guns made just about everywhere (and the ones exclusively made in America) were made to accept the Russian spike bayonet that simply clips to the front sight base with no need for a lug. And the Ruskies made do with spike bayos until they adopted the SKS and the AK-47 in the 1940s. I really haven’t decoded this rifle’s many stamps yet, but there is a Cyrillic stamp of some sort on the stock leading me to believe that it did make it to Russia. Most common civilian modification to military rifles is “Sporterizing” by cutting the stock or the barrel to make a better hunting rifle. I fail to see why a hunter would attach a different lug. Well I had a breakthrough recently, what do you think?
Looks like the bayonet lug and front sling stud for an American Krag-Jørgensen rifle.
Still what the hell story is behind this rifle that it could me made in Mass under contract by the Tzar, likely shipped overseas. In its service it lost its top hand guard (fairly common, they break and aren’t replaced) and gained a Krag Bayonet lug, and eventually make its way back to Massachusetts to be bought by a collector.
As I said this gun is covered with arsenal stamps, so it can talk to some extent, but I first need to learn the language…
Had fun doing Vicious Circle last night. Listened to a few interesting podcasts. (also while we’re talking podcasts go give this week’s BB&Guns a listen. All about killing animals and eating them. Something I need to do to a terrestrial beast before I slip this mortal coil *I’ve killed me plenty of fish in my days, but never anything that walks or crawls*)
The wife had some old college buddies in town to see a concert, so we went into Bean-town and had breakfast with them before they flew home. It was a nice outing for the Mrs, and her stamina is rapidly returning. We got home in time for lunch, and we both took a nap.
When I woke up my phone had decided to start acting stupid. Right now I can’t access my contacts, my calender, or send or receive phone calls. I can still send text messages and access the internet, as well as most of my add-on programs. Very strange. Well the Mrs. looked and it’ll only cost her $50 to break our contract (she only has a month left, and I am out of contract) so we’ll likely be switching to Verizon Wireless and getting shiny new Droid phones tommora.
Had dinner with the Vectors and I got lots of baby-holding time in, so that rounded the evening off well.
Hope everybody is having a good weekend.

Common bogus study that you’re more likely to shoot somebody you know than an attack. How does this play out?
A 22-year-old Dallas man died Sunday after being stabbed in the parking lot of a Pleasant Grove apartment.
A police report says the man, Danilo Funes, 22, got into an argument just before midnight Saturday with a group outside of an apartment in the 9600 block of Old Seagoville Road. He later died of his wounds at a hospital.
Seems he knew his attackers….but again his death is irrelevant to the anti-rights nuts because he wasn’t SHOT, he was STABBED. Only “Gun Deaths” count, not violent crime.
