Return of the Fudds

Read about this video and it makes me sick:

I don’t know if I can fully label this as “Fudd” support but it smacks of the same idiocy, that was the hunters (Elmer Fudd) rallying against the “Assault Weapons Ban” of 1994 because they didn’t use AR-15s for hunting deer or ducks. (Tho the AR-15 is now one of the most popular hunting rifles in the nation now) I thought this foolish mindset was dead after the AWB because the hunters realized that the people who want “Reasonable Gun Control” are neither reasonable, nor are they willing to let hunters keep their guns.

First up the running talking point is “I own guns, and I think one-gun-a-month is not an unreasonable restriction”.

I’ll first up say I also own guns, and I have never bought 12 guns inside of a year. I HAVE on the other hand bought several guns inside of a month. As a collector I don’t get to choose when a deal presents itself to me, same goes as a shooter looking for defensive guns on a budget. My preferred carry gun is a S&W1911Sc commander. Brand new the gun runs about $900-$1,000 new…used guns of this model are rare as the people who buy them tend to hold onto them, but I see used guns on rare occasions for $700-$800. First up that’s no discount to sneeze at, and given that I can’t just go into a store and find one for that price any day, one must jump when the deal presents itself. Even more, for mine I paid much less, most likely for some cosmetic problems that I easily fixed or didn’t care about. I doubt I will EVER see a deal like that again. Hell if I had waited another dayJay G. had told me he would have bought it. I didn’t know he was even looking at it until I brought it home and told him about it. If I had already bought a gun I’d have to wait and likely miss out on a deal, or cave and spend large amounts of money on a new gun, or let a rare collectible go on to another home to appreciate in value, or heaven-forbid, be neglected…

The “pay off” for this stupid law is, according to the video:
-Shrink Supply of guns to criminals: (No it won’t, as most people don’t buy more than 12 guns a year anyway, nor will this bill remove guns from the wild)
-Help Police Track Crime Guns: (We have a 100% registration law in effect here. Every gun bought and sold, at any volume and for any reason must be registered with the state by law. Long Guns, Handguns, “assault weapons”, everything. I have NEVER read of a report of this data being used to solve a crime, or to “track a crime gun”. I doubt anybody can show me such a story, as this is a universal lie to registrations.)
-Punish Gun Traffickers: (Well the law WILL label innocent people doing normal behavior as “Gun Traffickers” and punish THEM. As for people running criminal enterprises of selling guns to unlawful people, this bill does not address that)

Overall I will note that there are only two people (who may or may-not be actors) in the video. Their talking points are pure rhetoric (A gun can take a life so easily there should be reasonable restrictions…..well why haven’t you killed anybody if its so easy? Also did you not get your Mass LTC that would allow you to buy guns? To Get that didn’t you take a training course? also didn’t you pay $100 for the permit, plus whatever price for the class to make sure poor people can’t join your ranks? Didn’t you undergo a background check and register your guns with the state? Are you a fucking idiot???)

This law will do NOTHING to take guns out of the hands of criminals (Hell DC and Chicago had “No-Gun-a-Month” laws for GENERATIONS, and it didn’t help them one whit!) but it will restrict rights of lawful people for no gain. If there’s no gain, and the proponents feel the need to lie about it, who’s to say they’ll be satisfied when this lie plays out as such?

The failure of gun control is ALWAYS more gun control. Please Take Action NOW!

Outsmarting Terrorists

A nice Examiner post up here. Our Secretary of homeland security talking about visiting Alabama during the oil spill crisis and meeting with Gov. Haley Barbour. Kinda strange as Governor Barbour is the governor of Mississippi….

Maybe she keeps 3 steps ahead of the terrorists by keeping two steps ahead of herself. Because the emperor can’t REALLY be naked…that wouldn’t be possible!

Your Morning Irony

Saw this while reading the morning paper (of course before I clipped all the coupons and tossed the whole rag in the recycling bin)

LONDON — With historic budget cuts about to change the way the British live — slashing children’s benefits, freezing public salaries, and trimming welfare roles — one must do one’s part: Even the queen is cutting back…The queen is freezing salaries for royal servants and aides earning more than $73,500, and reviewing all vacant slots with an eye to reducing her staff of 1,400 — which includes a royal piper who plays under her window in the mornings as well as an official counter of swans.

In America we came up with a much better solution to our financial problems. We told the King to kiss our asses and to go climb a tree.

I still have no idea why the UK and the Common Wealth nations keep the royals and the lords around. I suspect in the case of the Common Wealths I have a theory that the average Joe on the ground in Canada has no idea that there is a Governor General and that if they wanted to cripple the whole of Canadian government (or the Queen through her) they could. They don’t know because it simply doesn’t happen….but they still pay for the Governor and for the Queen.

Maybe its just me, given that as American we’re culturally taught to hate royalties and birthrights, as well as dictatorships. I know there are readers in various Common Wealth Nations as well as the UK. Can you defend keeping the royals around?

Some Vids for Ya

First up a video taking a stab at the war on drugs From Thomas

There are like a million discussion points in that one, and it should probably get its own post, but guess what, its Sunday Morning and I’m gonna relax a spell!

Second is something I’m noting the denial of.

Obama is hurting those on the left just as much as those on the right…only one side is ignoring the pain and chanting praise. I’m fine with that.

Last is a nice little tie in on the cost of the “War on Drugs”

Seriously, if ANYTHING we need to legalize recreational drugs just to get rid of THIS bullshit!

And last, little $w33t-P and new new cousin who’s about the same size as her!

Love the pensive look on her face….of course deep in thought is in fact fast asleep!

And for Carniverous science g33ks, I was presented this: Periodic Table of Meat!!!

Too Cool!!

I Hate Epilepsy!

I like to cook, but I’m pretty rotten at reading cook books. Most often I’ll miss ingredients or steps, or get overwhelmed. Once I’ve cooked the recipe tho I become smooth as silk.

So to get me solid on a new recipe the Mrs. and I do a little devise and conquer. She reads the recipe and barks orders and gives me a hand when I need one, and I do most of the leg work. It works REALLY well, as I handle everything and see how the meal goes together so next time I fly solo like a champ.

This evening we decided I’d learn how to make a really nice Okra dirty-rice salad. All things were going well until the Mrs. started having trouble finding her words. She also started using the word “World” in excess.

Mrs. Weer’d: “ummm….umm…you should watch that world over there. Mix it together and make it all worldly!”

Yeah that’s pretty much how she was talking. I’ve seen this before, this is one of the types of seizures she has. At first it didn’t seem too bad….but as things advanced, and the stakes got higher with food cooking things went downhill FAST.

Her speech became gibberish, and when I asked questions I’d get answers to questions I didn’t ask. There was only so far before tempers flared on both sides.

Finally dinner was done, and neither of us were hungry, and both of us are feeling pretty poorly about the course of events.

What sucks is the true object of my rage is a damn disease, it totally sucks!

I’ll be happy when this is all behind us.

War on *Some* Drugs

So today I went with the Mrs. to see her Epileptologist, for what was a standard check-up, but with the pending surgery, there was lots to talk about. (FYI, Surgery still scheduled for August 31st, and we’re going forward with good feelings)

While we were there the Doc sent in via some sort of electronic system a prescription for the Mrs. Seizure meds…and then printed up a script for Lorazipam which is used to halt seizure activity if you find yourself into a repetitive cycle. (As in multiple seizures over-and-over again…its also used for epileptics who stop breathing during seizures, which thankfully the Mrs. isn’t one)

I asked why the scripts were handled differently, and was informed that Lorazipam is a controlled substance. This makes sense when you go off of the baseline cultural thinking, the effects of the drug are similar to that of Valium or Alcohol. You can get high off of it, and you can get addicted.

But seriously, its hardly some hardcore street drug we’re talking here. I just don’t get all the hoopla.

Now on the other side, across the nation we’re de-regulating marijuana, and overall I’m 100% cool with that.

But….

“Medical Marijuana” is a fucking sham. Its a sham, and any doctor who writes a prescription to smoke a dried herb should loose their license to practice medicine removed.

Marijuana is NOT a medication!!! It may have medicinal values, but in no way does it resemble a regulated medication. Its a PLANT, you can’t regulate the active ingredient, nor the inactive ingredients (and that’s not even counting the compounds generated by burning the weed) and regulating exact dosages is also nearly impossible.

We already have “Medical Marijuana” and this stuff the compounds you are ingesting are 100% regulated and you can fully regulate the dosing regime, and the produced batches are required to be identical in content and quality.

You cannot do that with any growing plant. This is the reason why people handle their produce before buying it. You can get a bad tomato, or apple, or head of lettuce.

Again, there might be medicinal values to smoking a jeeb at the end of the day, just the same way that the tea I drink in the morning (and damn near most of the day) has medicinal value both in the caffeine and in the anti-oxidants in it…not to mention the values of staying hydrated. This does NOT make my morning tea a “Medication”.

Frankly when I see “Medical Marijuana” rallies, I see lots of people greasing the slippery slope so they can get high, and using cancer patients and other sick people as the grease.

I have NO problem with people getting high, and I think Marijuana should be as legal as alcohol and tobacco, I have a HUGE problem with people LYING to get their agenda pressed.

I Probably Shouldn’t Laugh

Mentioned last night in VC:

Its a sad mental illness, still his repeated phrases are HILARIOUS if you try to work them into day-to-day situations.

We’ve been VERY fond of wandering around the labs repeating this over and over until somebody cracks up. Use it in your Work place ASAP!!!
