“Gun Free Zones”

From Virgina Tech

Virginia Tech was locked down Thursday when three children attending a summer camp said they saw a man holding what looked like a gun on the campus

I keep hearing updates and I’m getting the feeling it just a mistake or kids being stupid/foolish. Still the campus has been on lockdown ALL DAY LONG.

Can you see the flaws of “Gun Free Zones”? It not like the Campus police can say “It would be pretty hard to get a gun on campus, with our stockade fences and metal detectors, and random security sweeps”, and its not like they can say “It could be a lawful citizen carrying on campus” because nobody would risk losing their lawful gun rights as well as their carry permit just because VT is a nice place to walk. Correction, Carrying on the VT campus is NOT a crime.

Of course this is a big natural story because 31 people were murdered here, and one evil coward was shot a few time (and uses that identity to make sure that everybody else will have the same opportunities to get shot like he did, as well as restrict the rights of good people further, and make a living of that), dispite guns being just as illegal that day as it was any other day.

Gun Free Zones are 110% worthless. This event is living proof. It isn’t a “Gun free Zone” if you’re taking hostile fire, and it isn’t a “Gun Free Zone” when you lock down a youth summer camp because of a gun sighting.

**UPDATE** Jake has the sketch of the alleged “gunman”, I still think its bullshit.

Wait. Is it a gun-free-zone, or an objects-that-might-kinda-look-like-guns-in-the-right-light-free-zone?

For that matter, Jake pointed out that as long as the person isn’t a student or on staff at VaTech, then he hasn’t actually broken any laws.

Did they give release a sketch of the gun, which was wrapped in a cloth? That could be the big break in the case.

Update: While I was typing this, they lifted the alert. Nothing was found.

I agree, it’s probably BS. Maybe it was an umbrella or something.

OTOH, Tech just got fined a buttload of money for their response on 4/16, so they’re going to be in “ridiculous response” mode for everything for a while.

Interestingly enough, there was another “man with a gun” call in Christiansburg at around the same time.

Meanwhile, as the alert broke on the Tech campus this morning, Christiansburg had a similar report that upon investigation gave no signs of danger, said town spokeswoman Becky Wilburn.

A person told a Montgomery County deputy that they spotted a man with a holstered gun in the vicinity of the Montgomery County Health Department building, Wilburn said. Officers combed the area and only found a person with a cell phone on the hip, she said.

You probably have already seen it, but for those who have not, check You Tube for the video on “Gun Free Zones”
Gun free zones are just large hunting preserves stocked with defenseless human targets. In Norway the killer had 90 minutes to kill before the police arrived and I am already hearing the antis condemning the large capacity (10 rds.) magazines used by the killer.
Truth is he could have used a single shot rifle and still managed to kill just as many people.

    • Weerd Beard says:

He had 90 minutes, and as SOON as the police arrived he simply gave up.

No “Blaze of Glory”, no Suicide, he didn’t even sucessfully fend off the cops with his Ruger Bullet-hose.

Nope, he was in it just to kill people without challenge. As soon as the challenge was added he stopped.

So I could shut down the VT campus from halfway across the country if I had their 800 number? Kinda sad.
