Being a Gunnie is Fun

Since this will be my take on several other blog posts this will be a bit of a link-farm, but also I think it will illustrate my point very well.

First I’ll start with a quote cited by Joe, Quoting Alan Gura

When Alan Gura spent time with a bunch of gun bloggers at the NRA Convention last May I asked him what bloggers could do to help the civil rights war. He said (paraphrased), “Make guns fun. Don’t bring up or associate with Threepers. It scares people.”

Now I see value in Threepers, so I won’t 100% associate with them, but I’ve also expressed some of my issues with Threepers on the other blog, so I understood what Alan ment when he said the above statement.

Next up I’ll jump us forward to this year’s blogger shoot. Because I have this nifty blog with a nice little photo gallery program I thought I’d pack my Camera, despite bringing it the first year and only taking a handful of snaps, and the second year I left the camera at home, and didn’t miss it.

I brought my Camera, and I left it safe in its case in Jay’s truck for the entire day. I even THOUGHT about getting it, but I never did. To Quote Zercool

I took a handful of pictures, but when there’s things that go PFFT! PFFT! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT! … well, that beats the hell out of “click click click”.

So I’m relying on the shutter bugs that were among us. Lissa is one of them

Lissa was amused at how much I was giggling durring this part of the video. She wanted to know why. This is Why!!!

Go over to Jay’s for the full-sized image. But that there is a Mossberg 500 with a 14″ barrel and a bird’s head grip.

I’m laughing my ass off because I’m shooting an itty-bitty pump shotgun, and, I was shooting buckshot and slugs out of it. Its wildly impracticable, hard to use, but surprisingly pleasant to shoot thanks to that grip.

Its really an answer looking for a question…and the question is “What’s gonna kick over my giggle-box and scatter the contents across the tri-state area?”

Now to tie this all together, I was standing beside Joe when he asked Alan Gura that question at a get-together organized by Breda, Jay and I had driven down there together, and Jay organized the Blogger Shoot. Lissa was there filming away.

Shooting IS fun, not only as an activity and hobby you can do on your own, but something you can do as a group. And like most hobbies people into one hobby of pastime can often share interests. Through shooting and blogging I have met some amazing people and made some good friends, and had some amazing times.
On VC #62 Jay mentions my car shoot I held a few years ago. Essentially I had a car in Maine that I had bought for pennies because it wouldn’t run, couldn’t be fixed for any reasonable price, and my friend wanted it gone from his driveway. I had a bunch of guns, and I wanted to shoot the car. There’s my problem, but I couldn’t do it alone. So I called up a few friends, they called some friends, and next thing I know I had about 20 guys (with money in hand to offset costs) guns, a truck, a trailer, and lots of tools to prep the car for a safe and fun shoot. End result?

More smiles!

Compare that with The Other Side there really isn’t any comparison!

So thank you Mr. Gura for all your hard work on behalf of human rights in America, I’m doing my part, and my friends certainly are too!

At least now I know what happened to my Dodge Shadow. Almost didn’t recognize it.

  2. fearsclave says:

Amen brother. I like to tell people that guns bring people together and make them happy. And aren’t shorty shotguns fun?

  3. Bob S. says:

ChristinaLMT had a party recently — nearly 30 people, bloggers and non-bloggers; gunnies and non-gunnies got together for hours of fun.

No one hurt in spite of the presence of many firearms. Well, I take that back; my hearing still hasn’t fully recovered from Christina yelling “I have a GUN!!!” at the top of her lungs when A.D. gave her a .22 rifle 🙂

Heck, simply check out the Youth Day pictures that I’ve taken to see the fun those kids and adults had.

The club board is working to make a list of acceptable reactive targets that can be used at the range to increase the fun of shooting.

Time and time again when you see someone shooting for the first time, you see a fun filled smile.

That is where I really think we need to concentrate — showing people who have never shot how much fun it is.

    Heck yes.
This past April (the 19th) I spent the day on the range working with the Police Explorers (Juniors). It was great to see some kids take their first shots ever. We started with G22s and finished with honest-to-giggle USGI M16s. The kids all had a great time. If you ever need to see another human smile, I suggest giving a machine gun to a teen. After the event, I loaned one of my personal MGs (9mm supressed AR) to a very nice senior lady at the range. She got a heck of a smile too.

Don’t associate with threepers. That’s what David Hardy is a friend and on a federal level there are some lawyers in my cell phone, but Gura isn’t. He would have lost McDonald outright without the the words of a lawyer who had previously argued against him in Heller.

I’ve spent a lot of money on firearms related lawyers and I wouldn’t piss in his ears if his brains were on fire. If you ever meet him in person, you’re welcome to tell him I said “FUCK YOU TOO.” Of course, he might be scared, because you would be repeating the words of a THREEPER.

Cocksucking moron. Doesn’t know what side his bread is buttered on and us THREEPERS/GOA/JPFO/MSSA people were a LOT of people that BANKROLLED THAT MORONIC FUCK. There is a REASON why he’s not invited to have any kind of opinion in the pending “vs. Holder case”. he got the Virginia/NRA disease and thinks he’s a movie star when he should be doing work.

He’s not a marksman, a gunsmith, an inventor, a recreational shooter, or much of a lawyer…as HIS intended tangent on McDonald was WRONG and wouldn’t have worked and the 14th is a blasphemy anyway.

He’s full of himself and an asshole. Wouldn’t make a pimple on Stewart Rhodes’ arse. FUCK HIM and anybody that wants to side with him on that attitude. Fuck them too. At the end of the day, the people that will march to the sounds of criminals and war are the ones you want to save your ass, not QUISLING fuck ups.

I should learn to mince my words more???

    FUCK HIM.

—-We had a car shoot out in Tom Green County in 06…Used a Sherman Tank and a Ma Deuce. Shotguns and rifle bullets vs a car aren’t as effective…

Tell Gura: “THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY FIREARMS RIGHTS EVEN MORE OF A PRIV INSTEAD OF A RIGHT BECAUSE PRAGS DO NOT HAVE THE BALLS TO SAY ‘FUCK YOU, IT IS MY RIGHT!'”

Battle ain’t over and I just posted this on MY page in tribute to Gura:

“A nation can survive its fools, even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy of the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves against those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.” –Marcus Tullius Cicero

  7. Gene Hoffman says:

Alan Gura is 2-0 in the Supreme Court on guns. Everyone else is not. Now can you please show me where any of those organizations paid him a dime?

For that matter can you show me where any of those organizations did anything for gun owners but relieve them of money?

Blowhards blow and real people make the Second Amendment a normal part of the Bill of Rights.

    -Gene

    • Thomas says:

He’s 2-0 in continuing the theory that the second amendment is a PRIV not a RIGHT. Sign up for your own death. Gary Marbutt has done more for firearms rights than Gura has if you look at the number of laws he’s gotten passed both in the favor of gun freedoms and hunting freedoms.

Blowhards named Gene need to LEARN THEIR FIREARMS LAW HISTORY.

NRA had it’s convention where you couldn’t carry defensive arms and kicked out Neal Knox for not wanting to compromise on things.
Second Amendment Foundation is having their annual convention in SAN FRAN FUCKING CISCO, No joke.

Maybe to the SAF and NRA guys won’t feel out of place blowing each other and government agents?

    • Thomas says:

I suggest you actually READ the McDonald transcripts, where Gura is going on and on a a tangent as the judge is basically all but screaming to him that the Slaughterhouse case precedent will not be overturned and he’s pissing in the wind.

      Did YOU READ THAT, GENE?

Left to his own devices, he would have LOST McDonald. It’s very evident in the transcripts that he would have lost and that you haven’t read them. Reading, try it some time, it’s not just for blogs and schoolwork.

  8. D2k says:

Got to shoot some skeet for the first time.
A lot of fun and I’m going to have to start doing it more often.
Not really too pricey either considering.

  9. Dev says:

    Good stuff.

  10. Lissa says:

Thanks, Weer’d! I enjoyed the video plenty without knowing what on earth was so funny, but this makes it even better!

  11. Linoge says:

Funny timing… Had a conversation with my father a few days ago, and we talked about one of the gubernatorial candidates hosting a machine gun shoot at the local range. He commented that automatic weapons were an absolute hoot, but it had been years since he had the opportunity to shoot one – namely, back when he was in the military. I pointed out that the range in question allows you to rent the machine guns in question, and we arranged to do exactly that the next time he was in town – primarily and exclusively because automatic firearms are fun.

What do the anti-rights nuts have that can compare? What events do they host that can even begin to match the numbers of people who visit Knobb Creek on a yearly basis? The horribly-misnamed “Million Mom March”? Yeah. And how many years did that last?

Not only are we fighting for the protection and preservation of individual rights, we are doing so by supporting an activity that is simply enjoyable. Really, what can the antis provide in competition?

    Thomas,

I was there at the McDonald arguments. You have some excuse for having to read it instead, I’m sure..
