Legalize that Shit!

Marijuana? Sure legalize that too. But no I’m talking distilled spirits!

As many of you know I infuse my own vodka, but I need to start with plain vodka made by a licensed distiller. I also keep a cabinet chock-full of distilled spirits (most people do!). And of course I think we all know a home-brewer as well. I’ve had lots of cool beers brewed by friends for sport. I’ve even had a few bottles of homemade wine.

But if I wanted to take some of the products from making beer or wine and rant them through a still well then I need my door kicked down and my dog shot. (If I don’t have a dog, will one be provided for me by the Police?).

Too bad, as my interest in booze and various flavors, and the wife’s experience in chemistry, I bet we could make some cool shit.

But again comes the truth that gun owners are law-abiding people. Its not because I’m a saint or respect these laws (I’m not, and I don’t!) its because I get caught with a bottle of bacon vodka that happened to be stilled from a grain mash rather than bought tax-free in New Hampshire, not only will I be in a world of legal hurt, I’ll likely lose all my guns, and my right to carry for the rest of my life.

So I’m stuck doing my part just forwarding an insightful video to you all, and planting a bug in your ear for voting time!

The very last sentence in the video perfectly portrayed one of the “unintended consequences” of laws like these that criminalize harmless behaviors:

“Screw the Law” said the anonymous guy who likes to make his own booze.

By having and enforcing these types of laws, they basically create the environment in which the public comes to believethat the laws are overly oppressive and illegitimate…and just decide to ignore them. That general attitude will carry over into other activities and aspects of life and leads to a society that basically doesn’t worry about obeying the laws at all.

I believe that this is a major reason that prohibition in the 1920’s gave rise to the powerful gangs in Chicago and New York, etc.

There is a certain element that’s going to be criminal no matter what…but the “screw the law” attitude is what swells the ranks of the criminal enterprise to the point that it is a virtually unstoppable force.

It’s like trying to hold onto sand…the tighter the government squeezes, the more that slips through their fingers.
