**Sorry, Found this Post floating in the draft bin. Its an old one, but still good**
Yeah all gun owners and people who advocate self defense are fat white men! Looks like a pretty good slice of demographics right there. I’m also glad to see people are starting to get the idea about self-reliance and self defense!

There’s still a pretty strong “one of these things is not like the other” vibe when I go to IDPA, but whatever, I go!
Well you’re one of the big leaders. The growing demographic are people like my Wife or Breda who aren’t down-home country girls who grew up shooting critters and pinking, and are certainly not “Gun Nuts” where they will get DEATHLY bored when discussing the pros and cons of the AR-15 vs. SCAR-16, vs. Bushmaster ACR, Vs. Sig 556 et al. They might say “I like light .223 rifles, they’re fun and easy to shoot” but aren’t going to get bent out of shape over minor differences, or say magazine availability, or 10,000 round failure tests.
I think IDPA and other action shooting is well on the way to gun-nuttery, and I think you’re probably at the leading edge of that trend. Keep on keepin’ on, and see if you can bring some female friends along, if anything just to watch.
My wife falls solidly into the category you are talking about. I see her eyes glaze over when I start berating TV and movies for gun mistakes but she loves to go to the range with me. She never touched a gun before meeting me (from Canada, even) and now she’s pretty darn amazing with one. I’d love to talk her into doing some IDPA matches with me.
“It was the first time I ever shot a gun and it was . . . exhilarating!” YEEAAAHHHH!!!! That’s why we win 🙂
It’s awesome to see so many ladies joining in the fun. The only real issue I have with this report is the new caster at the beginning says ‘….rather shoot guns than sip tea and shop.’ That’s so sexist! If I would say that, someone would attempt to throw me under the sexism bus.
Here’s to hoping women aren’t offended by that particular anchor’s underhanded shot, and they keep engaging in taking an active role in their defense, and a very fun hobby.
