Gunnie Note

Today is flu Shot day, so I’ll be needing to take off my coat for the nurse to cause me pain.

So the Kahr PM45 went into the pocket. I haven’t carried it in over a week, and I was shooting it this weekend so it was unloaded when I pulled it from the safe this morning.

I’ll note that both in Kahr’s owner’s manual, and across the internet you hear “Only load a kahr from slide-lock”. Seems kinda odd given that the gun seems to load itself in course of fire just fine. Whenever I load this gun cold (on the range I will do slidelock reloads) I do it like I do any other semi-auto. Insert loaded mag and rack the slide. Drop the mag, insert a fully loaded mag, press check, holster.

Never had a problem. My only thought is maybe some people are half-assing the slide stroke and either short-stroking the gun, or riding the slide home.

Nope, overhand grip, rack to full extension, and then full release and let the slide ride home under full spring tension.

Round in the pipe every time!

Oh, BTW I’m carrying the gun dirty too. I don’t think I put 25 rounds through it this weekend (we were honestly talking more than shooting) and the gun is all stainless and plastic. Seriously what’s going to happen?

What could happen? Well, it won’t have that Clean, Fresh Scent of Hoppes #9 on it, that’s for sure! ; )

I’ve carried a dirty gun on many occasions. A box or two of ammo through a gun isn’t going to make it malfunction in a defensive situation anyway.

Nope. If I can run 2-3 hundred rounds through any of my guns with nary a hiccup (Most of the pro shooters I’ve talked to clean their guns around 500 rounds, and don’t sweat it if it gets to 600) this gun isn’t going to have an issue.

Plus stainless and plastic? Not like its going to rust!

Are you sure that they don’t mean that you shouldn’t drop a round in the chamber and then drop the slide? That’s hard on extractors in some designs.

“Always load from the magazine” would be clearer if that was the case.

I heard of that issue with the Kahrs.

I never had a problem with mine. I think you’re right that the issue is people not pulling the slide all the way back. It does have a stiff recoil spring.

Oh my DeSantis holster came in. And it is head and shoulders above the horsehide Galco that I used to carry it in. About as good “retention” in the holster and far, far cleaner draw and presenting.

    Thanks for the tip.

Oh, have you tried the 7 round magazines yet?

    • Weerd Beard says:

Yeah and on my recoil I can feel each of the two springs springs reach their max compression at different points which CAN feel like a stop.

      Glad you like the holster.

No haven’t had a chance to order any new Magazines yet.

I always load my P380 using the slide lock because it is very picky about hand cycling the slide. Runs like a top, but unless you sling-shot the slide like you’re pissed at it the round will hang up.
