Put a Face and a Meek Voice to a Name

Found this video of a whole bunch of anti-gun shills whining about Minnesota’s redundant harassment law.

In the video you’ll see Brady Board Member Joan Peterson, but note in this video her meek, fact-free testimony is done on behalf of the Joyce Foundation, not the Brady Camp.

Note how they were in a gun shop for the footage, but didn’t feel the need to actually talk to anybody who might be pro-gun. Thankfully stories this biased are on their way out…not to mention that more people are giving up on print and TV and using the internet.

One of her comments truly shows me her mind set.

It was something along the lines of “It’s working, it is doing what it is supposed”.

It is supposed to make buying a firearm more expensive for the law abiding.
It is supposed to increase the hassle and difficulty in buying a firearm for the law abiding.
It is supposed to grant local law enforcement officers power over the exercise of a Specifically Enumerated, Constitutionally protected right — by the way, did you think she got the Sheriff’s permission to talk on camera?

It seems her mind set is that infringing rights is okay — as long as the goal of the infringement is admirable. Doesn’t have to be effective, just an admirable goal.

Wonder if she would take to wearing a Burqa because that would reduce the likelihood of her being raped, eh?
    Isn’t that an admirable goal?

  2. Unfortunately this bill hasn’t advanced any since this report. She does look scared of her own shadow.

I love the notion that just because she considers having to go down to the police department, subject one’s self to an interview, and fork over some cash to receive a permission slip to exercise a Constitutionally-protected right to not be an “inconvenience”, then it obviously is not an inconvenience for anyone else.

I wonder if she would feel the same about having to do exactly that for every single post she ever wanted to write…

Or to publicly lobby a cause. I mean shouldn’t she have a permit to show who she speaks for….and technically she should have TWO permits, one for Joyce, the other for Brady.

I mean ANYBODY could go in front of the TV camera and say they speak for the Joyce foundation. We should expect a background check and employment verification for the safety of all!

    • Wally says:

It’s not really an inconvenience. I have made many a trip to the local cop shop and the response is always one of the following

      a) “ok fill out this form and we’ll rubber stamp it”
      b) “fill this form out and we bust everybody’s balls so we’ll lose your paperwork in 3 months”

Never has anyone actually ‘interviewed’ me, it is little more than checking the box that the task was completed.

      • Weerd Beard says:

Yep, that’s exactly how the “May Issue” Permitting system works in Mass.

        It means A) Everybody gets a permit, might-as-well-be Shall-issue.
        B) Nobody gets a permit unless they have an Uncle or a Cousin with some Juice on the Police Cheif

      • Linoge says:

Again, just because it is not an inconvenience for you, does not mean it is not an inconvenience for everyone else. I work beyond “normal working hours” at both ends of the schedule – am I going to have to take time off just to get a permit to exercise a Constitutionally-protected right?

And, speaking of, why are the rights protected by the Second Amendment subjected to this kind of “permission slip” nonsense, while no other Constitutionally-protected rights are?

If this procedure really is nothing more than a “check in the box”, then it should be done away with as a waste of everyone’s time, and a waste of taxpayers’ money. Our governments, at all levels, are having a hard enough time maintaining even the semblance of a balanced budget – we should do everything possible to help them out.
