Laughable

So Astroturf Brady shell group NGVAC just put up a post called “COMMON NRA CLAIMS β€” THE ACTUAL FACTS”

Of course the list doesn’t actually have any Claims the NRA has actually made. If you look at them in a fun-house mirror maybe they resemble some factual claims, but really its a field of Straw Men.

Oh also what it doesn’t contain are any facts, references, or citations.

Its nothing but a pile of “Proof by Assertion” Fallacies.

And they have this adorable little remark.

CAUTION
If you hear ANYTHING about guns that seems appealing, reasonable or factual IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE.

And they close with this:

Our gun laws do virtually nothing to protect public safety.

Yeah except it doesn’t. And of course they’re such sticklers for facts and truth that they’re forced to pay off bloggers when blatant falsehoods appear on their site, I believe other citations by Thirdpower and other activists have been ignored.

This is how desperate they have become!

  1. Greg Camp says:

To quote from the NGVAC nonsense:

“In England, where they have sane gun laws, no one can legally own a handgun or an assault rifle. Only criminals have them.”

That is supposed to refute our claim that in places with strict gun control, only criminals have guns.

The writer there needs to take a remedial composition class. Of course, when I get a student like that, I contemplate a stimulating career of bagging groceries.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Why do you think they are such vicious people in attacking pro-gun activists?

These people have NO OTHER VIABLE SKILLS, and the world is wising up to their bullshit.

Can you imagine being a prominent buggy whip maker watching the streets fill up with Model T Fords?

  2. PT says:

    “CAUTION
If you hear ANYTHING about guns that seems appealing, reasonable or factual IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE. ”

Guns are dangerous, guns murder people, guns should be banned. I like this game.

  3. Thirdpower says:

None of this is ‘new’. This is just a copypaste of a pdf they’ve had up since last year.

  4. Jack says:

My my they’re really harping the “quarantine” doctrine.

Don’t think guns might be fun or useful! Don’t ever try one! It’s a GATEWAY!

    • Cargosquid says:

      You ARE SO RIGHT!

      Hi, I’m Cargosquid.
      And I’m a 2nd Amendment junkie.

I started off with shooting a BB gun. Little did I know that I would soon progress to that serious gateway caliber…. .22. I couldn’t help it! Its soooooo addictive. It makes you feel so good. MY MOTHER GAVE IT TO ME. It’s not my fault! And my brother FORCED me to own a shot gun. A. A…….a… .410

Soon, I was shooting bigger guns. 9mm, .38’s… Even ones whose calibers start with a (gasp) a …..4. Yes, I said it. A 4 damn it!

Then came rifles…and again…that evil .22 caliber seduced me. .30-30 followed. Then the government showed me the wonderful 7.62 in an M-14 and 12 gauge and .223! I couldn’t stop!

And then came the Lucky Gunner Blogger shoot. Free dru..uh, I mean ammo! and AUTOMATIC WEAPONS………..

And now….I’m pushing this on my daughter. She’s fired an MP40. And a Kriss Vector.

      I’m so happy.

  5. AuricTech says:

    CAUTION
If you hear ANYTHING about guns that seems appealing, reasonable or factual on the NGAC site IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE.

    Fixed that for them. πŸ˜‰

    • D. W. says:

      AuricTech,

      Fixed your fix: πŸ˜‰

      CAUTION
If you hear ANYTHING about guns on the NGAC site IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE.

      • Wraith says:

        β€œCAUTION
If you hear ANYTHING against guns that seems appealing, reasonable or factual IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE. ”

        Really fixed it. πŸ˜‰

  6. SGB says:

Every time they write I decide to buy another gun.

  7. wrm says:

Yarrr. Except that they havn’t removed said blatant falsehoods. Perhaps all of y’all need to take turns writing in for the $25 until they update the website?

(Hey, Weerd, you might like the cartoon I posted yesterday)

  9. dustydog says:

They said “The element of surprise is the reason 40% of armed policemen who are killed by guns are murdered.” What? That means 60% of police who are killed by guns are NOT murdered.

Are they claiming that 60% of police dying from gunshot wounds were criminals being shot in self-defense? Doesn’t seem true, and doesn’t seem like they would admit it, if it were true.

  10. Sigivald says:

Duty: Naw, they’re saying that “the element of surprise” is why 40% of the set of cops killed by guns, got so.

The rest of them that are murdered, and killed by guns, are murdered without The Element Of Surprise being the cause.

It’s poorly written, but it is not actually incoherent.

Let me add some grouping meta-data to that to clarify:
β€œThe element of surprise is the reason 40% of ([the set of] armed policemen who are killed by guns) are murdered.”

And by “reason” he means not “motive for the killing”, but “proximate means by which it was achieved”, or something like that.

    Maybe that helps.

(I sure how they aren’t paying whoever wrote that very much, because damn.)

  11. Critter says:

    Just Say No.

  12. Dann in Ohio says:

    Grasping at straws… they’re grasping at straws…

    Dann in Ohio

  13. “The element of surprise is the reason 40% of armed policemen who are killed by guns are murdered.”

So, 60% of policemen who are killed by guns aren’t murdered because they weren’t surprised? Seriously, they need to have somebody who actually can write above a third grade level proofread the crap on that site!
