Nature At Home

The House is hopping, both my Mother-in-law and Christina were over, and while we were chatting in the back yard we heard a racket in the trees. I assumed it was a squirrel.

Nope:

Redtail hawk and a pigeon he killed. Love hawks, they kill shit that needs to be dead!

I was at a yard sale yesterday in Lowell. Went there after calling an ad on Craigslist. You wouldn’t by any chance happen to know how to balance a Steadycam DV with too light of a camera mounted on it? Anywho… While I was chatting with my new Steadycam’s previous owner, a hawk flew past with what looked like a squirrel tale dangling from its undercarriage like an Esso Tiger Tail. I have to assume (even though I know I shouldn’t…) that the rest of the hapless tree rat was destined for the hawk family’s dinner table.

Nope, I have a hard enough time deploying a still camera when cool stuff goes down.

Yep seen them wipe out a few tree-rats too. One stripped a squirrel right down to the frame in my neighbor’s yard. Cool to watch.

Birds of prey are magnificent animals. Every so often, I toy with the idea of getting into falconry–ah, if only time and money were infinite…
