Neat!

I’m wayyy behind on my SHOT show news, but I just saw this.

I saw a post somewhere talking about the Springfield XDs. I was curious what it was, and assumed it was some variant like the XDm which honestly I couldn’t tell you how the “m”s differ from the standard XD. I guess the “S” is for “Slim” as its a single-stack.

I talked a lot about how kickass 9x19mm is as a defensive round here, and how the difference isn’t really relevant between 9×19 and .45 ACP of .40 S&W, and since the 9×19 kicks the least, and being the physically smallest of the popular cartridges, you can shoot it faster, better, and hold more in your gun…or make your gun smaller.

Of course I said I won’t be switching to 9mm anytime soon as all the super-cool 9×19 guns are generally double-stack with magazines are difficult or impossible to get here in Massachusetts, and the super-cool single-stack 9mm guns don’t hold THAT many more than my 8+1 1911…and I already HAVE the 1911.

Still I further doubled-back and noted that my carry piece is a S&W1911Sc commander that I added slim grips to to facilitate carry (The standard grips printed more and dug into my ribs), and now I have a gun that’s 1.01″ across the wing of the safety, and everywhere else the gun is 0.91″. That’s scary skinny, but still big enough for my meaty hands to hold onto, and that helps the gun disappear under my clothes.

That was a long and rambling way to say that skinny guns are comfortable and easy to carry. They don’t hold as much, but I’ll also add that their magazines are also really skinny and easy to carry as well.

So I’m glad to see the market fitting a need. Also this is a nice gun to get for those of us who are poor bastards that live behind enemy lines.

I’m just confused as to why it’s 29 ounces?! That’s heavier than my Sig P225 which is larger and an all-metal gun. Hell, a Glock 26 is only around 22 ounces unloaded.

    OMG, it’s so heavy.

I’m not a fan of the 9mm round, but an 8+1 P7 is my summer carry. Skinny, concealable, and it WORKS.

    OMG, it’s so heavy.

Skinny is good. Weight is not. I’ve been considering giving up the XDsc for something slimmer and lighter for that very reason. Other than those issues, its a great gun.

Thanks for the link in the piece. I appreciate it.

Nice, I have a casual eye out for a single stack 9. I’m not much of a fan of the XD, but do appreciate their entry into the market.

My 245 is around that weight. It is alloy and a 6+1 capacity. This is a bit on the heavy side for a shortish polyframe. There are higher cap 45s that are the same weight.
