You need to protect your town yourself:
Several hundred civilians have taken up arms in two towns in a southwestern Mexico state and are arresting people suspected of crimes and imposing a curfew, leading authorities to promise to reinforce security forces in the area.
People wearing ski masks or bandanas and carrying small arms this week began manning checkpoints on roads into the municipalities of Ayutla de los Libres and Teconoapa in Guerrero state’s Costa Chica area about 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of the Pacific resort of Acapulco. Leaders said they were acting against crime and insecurity.
Mexico is now under control of the Cartels, the army and the police force are in their pockets, and the private armies of the Cartels are more powerful than both of them combined. So to keep the peace the people are protecting their own towns. I suspect the masks are to keep Cartel assassins from shooting the new “Sheriff”.
I have a friend who moved down to southern Mexico after college and married a Mexican man. She said there are times when the Cartel makes a move against somebody else you simply don’t leave your home. Think about that, soon I’m going to get up and head to work, why, because its Monday. I’m not concerned about Cartel crossfire, or full-on military battles.
Think of that when you look at the picture in the article. Isn’t it nice that the government of Mexico has both let the state collapse, and only left the people with meager hunting rifles to defend themselves against Drug Soldiers with stolen military weapons.
This is why we can’t let the antis win, ever!
