Defensive “Gun Death”

Its not always grim when the “Gun Death?” tag pops up!

An 82-year-old Detroit man attacked a home invasion suspect with a hammer Sunday after the intruder refused to leave his property, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.

George Bradford told the station that he woke up to the screams of his daughter and granddaughter after someone broke into the home through a basement window.

Bradford “could hear him walking up the stairs” and said he went into his kitchen to fetch a hammer. When the intruder refused to leave, Bradford said he “let him have it.”

“He asked me not to kill him,” said Bradford. who hit the intruder once with the hammer.

Detroit police officers then arrived at the scene and say they found a man in his 30s in the front living room area with blood dripping from his head.

The suspect, 33, was treated by medics at the scene, then arrested for home invasion and taken into custody.

Its always a good home defense story when both parties live to tell the tale, and the invader lives to tell the tail in the grey-bar hotel awaiting trial. Still an older gentleman with a hammer against a younger one who wasn’t deterred by invading an occupied home, he was lucky the fight was over quick, and his blow landed true, and the attacker wasn’t so crazy or tweaked out on drugs that he could overlook a new dent in his skull.

The blow doesn’t sound like it was hard enough to concuss the attacker, so the attack was stopped simply because the attacker wasn’t expecting violence in return for his aggressive act.

I’ll stop my Monday-morning quarter-backing now with “All’s Well that Ends Well”
