The New York Double Standard

In the wake of Eric Garner’s death, Mayor De Blasio said this:

“Eric Garner was a decent man. Obviously, it was a minor offense he was committing — there’s no way it should have ended up in this situation,” de Blasio told HOT 97 radio on Dec. 4, a day after the grand jury ruling.

Meanwhile this was happening:

Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered city lawyers to stay silent about a groundbreaking lawsuit to keep bootleg cigarettes out of the Big Apple — because it came as Hizzoner was downplaying the illegal cigarette sales that led to the ill-fated police arrest of Eric Garner, The Post has learned.

The city Law Department drafted the civil racketeering suit the same week that a Staten Island grand jury did not indict NYPD cop Daniel Pantaleo in Garner’s chokehold death, and it was quietly filed in Brooklyn federal court on Dec. 9.

The Law Department drafted a press release boasting that the suit “is the first of its kind brought by the city against an out-of-state entity for supplying cigarette traffickers,” sources said.

You think Maybe the repeated police contact with Mr. Garner had before his death?

“You can’t have the mayor blabbing away that selling loosies is a ‘minor offense,’ but then have the Law Department, which represents and protects the city and the mayor’s interests, file this suit,” the official said. “It reeks of duplicity.”

The official, citing de Blasio’s “Tale of Two Cities” campaign rhetoric, added that “the mayor has a problem with two cities, and he created it.”

“On one hand, to pander to his voting base, he spews some nonsense that selling loosies is a ‘minor offense,’” the official said.

“But, on the other hand, he realizes this is a major issue with serious ramifications if left unchecked and he has the city’s Law Department file this first-of-its-kind federal lawsuit against the smoke shop.”

And of course New York’s “Progressive” views on taxes have created this:

According to a March report by Bloomberg News, an estimated 57 percent of the cigarettes smoked in New York are smuggled across state lines to avoid hefty state and city taxes that add $58.50 to the cost of a carton.

Remember this next time somebody says we should “legalize marijuana and tax the hell out of it!” or any other drug, because if you tax it too much people won’t change their economic activities, and will continue to buy drugs from the cartels (or if we’re lucky, from other states who have legalized it, but have taken street values into account when they add taxes to the fair market value), and no problems will be solved.

Images of the Antis: More “Discussion”

Again In don’t think they get the irony!

First up we still have people dying from Cancer and ALS. These various pop-culture displays are fine, but they’re also trivial. The important part of them is they raise money, which honestly is independent of runs, walks, or ice buckets.

Of course the idea that the antis want a discussion at all is laughable. They do anything in their power to stifle discussion. Their blogs are moderated. Youtube videos have ratings and comments disabled. When pro-gun groups have meetings they’re open to the public, media, and are planned a year in advance. Meanwhile anti-gun groups have closed meetings with no media allowed, and sometimes in secret locations.

They don’t want discussion, they want to be obeyed!

And of course the “Cure for Gun Violence” is also painfully naive. #1. why is “Gun Death” more relevant to violence or death in general? #2. Has anybody “Cured” “Gun Violence”? Even places with severe gun laws still have people getting shot, and that isn’t even looking at their violence and murder issues by other means.

Lastly, when it comes to curbing “Gun Violence” and actual violence we’re doing a pretty good job of it! Seems the solution is LESS gun control, not more. But they don’t like their reality, so they substitute their own!

**UPDATE** Bob in the comments brings up an excellent point

That image also ignores the fact that for decades the antis have been talking to — in some cases dictating the law to –representatives. And for decades their laws failed to deliver as promised.

Yeah, the antis have had the ears of the politicians since the 90s. Except the laws were unpopular and didn’t work as advertised! Heck the Brady Campaign (Then Handgun Control Inc) essentially wrote the Brady Bill in it’s entirety, and as a victory lab re-named their org after that triumph over the Evil NRA…except now they’re saying that the law is worthless and we need to do it again, but harder!

Even if you disregard the fact that most lawmakers who welcomed the anti-gun lobby with open arms are retired, updating their resume currently, or distancing themselves so they don’t join the fate of that latter group, can you wonder why the lawmakers aren’t answering their calls anymore?

“Gun Death” Sick Love Triangle

Gross!

A northeast Ohio teen has pleaded guilty to killing her foster mother as part of a conspiracy with her romantically involved foster father.

That’s just gross! Also I have family who have been foster parents, as well as friends who have done the same, and this also shows the fallacy of background checks. To be a foster family they go over your life with a fine-tooth-comb, yet as deep as they search, they can’t find out everything.

Yuck!

“Gun Death” Violent Robbery

There are monsters among us!

A man suffering stab wounds who said he was thrown into Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River early on Wednesday after a robbery and kidnapping was found by police, who also recovered two bound and submerged bodies.

…The survivor told them that about five men abducted him early on Wednesday, forced him into the back of a van, bound and blindfolded him, stabbed him nine times, and robbed him.

He said he noticed two other men who had been duct-taped in the back of the van. They also appeared to have been stabbed, although it was unclear whether they were living or dead, he told police.

The assailants then dumped him in the river with the two others, using a makeshift anchor to sink them, he said.

Brutal, if only one of them had a gun, this might have ended very differently!

Images of the Antis: Discussion

This one is quite the strawman:

Baldr discussion

Now first up let’s note that Mr. Jason “Baldr” Kilgore used to have a comment section on his blog, but since it was all pro-gun people rebutting his points, he shut it down. Same goes for most anti-gun blogs with an ounce of readership. Same goes for anti-gun lobby groups. The Brady Campaign blog used to have a comment section and they nuked it because it was mostly pro gunners rebutting their paper-thin points.

Amazing how much time anti-gunner spend trying to stifle bi-partisan discussion of gun control, while simultaneously saying that the pro-gun side refuses to talk about the issue.

Now let’s get past the strawman and delve into reality. Remember that anti-gun playbook that got leaked? The order from on-high is for anti-gunner to strike while the anvil is hot, the blood is still wet, and the bodies have not yet cooled. Their attack is pure emotion and devoid of fact. When the antis want to talk is when the facts of the event are still not known. Remember when the Washington Navy Yard shooter was armed with an AR-15? Turns out his weapon was a Remington 870 shotgun, but facts aren’t relevant to anti-gunners, just emotion, and when emotion is the driving factor, the story is far from reality.

Still once the dust settles, the bodies are buried or at least in a morgue, and all the facts are known, where are the antis? Suddenly they don’t want to talk anymore!

“Gun Death” Texas Style

Don’t Mess With Texas:

ABILENE, Texas — Abilene police are investigating the death of a man who was struck in the head with a baseball bat by his former boss as he tried to force his way into the man’s home.

…Beard said the victim was an ex-employee of the resident. The two had gotten into a verbal argument, which the resident terminated and then went into his house. The victim then tried to force his way into the house.

They don’t all end bad!

Man Shot By His Dog

The antis are all chattering about this freak story:

he Sheridan County resident was on Murphy Gulch Road accompanied by Mr. Murphy and another employee when they stepped out of the truck to remove the snow chains from the vehicle. Fipps had a dog in the vehicle which he had ordered to move from the front seat into the back. While the dog was roaming around the back seat of the truck, it stepped on a loaded 300 Winchester Magnum which caused the gun to discharge. According to Kozisek, Fipps was outside of the truck when the bullet shot through the cab of the truck into Fipps left arm.

Fipps was transported from the scene to meet an ambulance on Highway 14, where he was then taken to Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Due to the severity of the injury, Fipps is now in Billings. Although his life was saved, Fipps arm may be amputated.

Now the antis, being the wonderful people they are, are making light of this terrible event, and then essentially calling for the ban of all guns. Remember even your hunting gun isn’t safe from an anti-gunner!

Still the pro-gun side points out this could have been easily avoided.

How To Safely Transport Firearms

The gun was loaded when it probably shouldn’t have been. The gun was not in a protective case when it should have been. The gun was not in direct control of a knowledgeable shooter.

While doing all of these things makes things REALLY safe, and unloaded gun, in a hard-sided case, that is being watched by a knowledgeable shooter is essentially inert. Still any one of these things could have prevented the issue. It only takes a few seconds to unload a gun, and hard-sided cases that will fit almost anything can be had for short money.

How much is your arm, or your life worth?

Hunting With an AR

Got asked by the blog proprietor to link this post.

It’s rock-solid!

The history of hunting firearms in the United States has been tied to technology developed for our military since the Civil War. Prior to that, our armed citizens used their hunting rifles and muskets to fight when they joined the militia! But with the introduction of Spencer and Henry lever-action rifles during the 1860s, the stage was set for “military” rifles to become the new hunting guns because that’s where the newest technology was applied. That was particularly true of the Mauser and 1903 Springfield bolt-action rifles developed for World War I. Bolt-actions became the standard hunting rifle because of their inherent accuracy — and partially because the .30-06 cartridge is still one of the most useful all-around hunting rounds in the world.

So, it should be no surprise that the AR-15/AR-10 platform rifles (also known as Modern Sporting Rifles or MSRs) have become the top-selling rifles in the United States over the past 10-15 years. Our modern soldiers are most familiar with them from their service, and that’s what they want to use for their sporting pursuits, too. Now, many people are using them for everything from varmint hunting to big game hunting. You can find tons of information about the best AR-10 rifle for hunting — or even for deer hunting — and about which caliber is best for hunting with an AR-15. However, we couldn’t find any information about the unique differences of hunting with an AR vs. hunting with a bolt-action or lever-action rifle. But there are some mechanical differences, obviously, and some differences in effectively using an MSR for hunting.

Yep, I’d like to go hunt wild hogs in the Southern US where they are such a major problem, and of course around here the deer are big, and frankly dangerous when you note the number of fatalities from vehicle strikes. Of course when I go hunting it won’t be with an AR because I don’t own one…it’ll be the FAL which is the best gun in my collection for taking medium game at the ranges I expect to see them. The difference between my FAL and an AR-10 type rifle is trivial.
