Which Side is the Bully?

This is really upsetting:

Buffalo, New York police are now visiting the homes of those recently departed in search of firearms as part of a new plan to help keep tabs on local guns.

The move, put into effect by Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda, is described as an effort to stop firearms, specifically handguns, from winding up back in circulation and off the books.

“We recently started a program where we’re cross referencing all the pistol permit holders with the death records, and we’re sending people out to collect the guns whenever possible so that they don’t end up in the wrong hands,” Derenda told WGRZ. “Because at times they lay out there and the family is not aware of them and they end up just out on the street.”

City code forbids disposing of a firearm unless it is to a gunsmith or licensed firearms dealer or as part of a testamentary bequest such as directed by a will. However, these guns can be voluntarily surrendered.

Get this, your family member passes away, and while you’re dealing with all the emotional and legal business that comes with the end of somebody’s life, now uniformed cops are going to come by to look at the departed’s guns. Also sounds like they may be using a lot of coercion and intimidation to leave the home with those guns and permission to destroy, or otherwise dispose of them.

Sometimes you need to step back from the libertarian “I know my rights” Wookie-Suit reference, and think of how these family members might feel. The guns aren’t theirs yet, that needs to be settled in estate. New York has crappy gun laws, so already there is a little bit of a legal tightrope when it comes to gun ownership in that state, and now cops show up in uniform uninvited and ask to see the departed’s guns?

Do they know they can tell them to leave the property? Do they know that if they coerce them to give up the guns on the spot that’s technically theft? Do they know they probably won’t be leading them out in handcuffs and leave other family members alone to deal with the estate?

Yeah, but the pro-gun side is all a bunch of bullies!

Disdain for Their Fellow Man

Now I personally feel that most of my fellow man (Not just Americans, but humans on the Earth) are good. If you slip and fall perfect strangers will stop and help you up, communities band together when problems happen.

Even if I’m not in such an optimistic mood I can still walk down the sidewalk without concern for oncoming traffic mowing me down. I can stand on a train platform without concern somebody will push me under the train at the last moment, or I can set my Wallet on the table at the restaurant while I wait for my waiter to run my credit card, and not be concerned somebody will attempt to snatch it and dash off into the night.

No matter how “Progressive” a person is, they tend to see things the same way as I do. Still that quickly breaks down when you get to certain issues. Of course this is a Gun Blog. I think unless you have otherwise proven to a rather affirmative degree that you are a danger to your fellow man, get what you want! No I don’t care if the dude sitting beside me in the Movies has a gun, nor do I care if somebody driving by in traffic does. I don’t care if my Daughter’s teacher or school class has guns. And no, me being personally armed has nothing to do with my feelings.

Another one that REALLY bugs me is Campaign Finance Reform, I personally don’t give two shits how people toss their money around. I also don’t care if the people paying for a campaign live in the relevant state or district, or even live IN THE COUNTRY.

Yeah, there is a certain degree of carpet-bagging meddling when Michael Bloomberg works to get laws passed in Colorado and Washington. Or George Soros pushing various laws from what ever nation won’t extradite him. Still so long as the money can be followed, WHERE the money comes from has almost as much relevance as the money itself.

Also what does campaign money DO? It pays mostly for TV and Radio ads, but it also pays for phone banks, robo-calls, fliers, mailers, and public appearances. While ads and such DO work, otherwise your favorite breakfast cereal wouldn’t be paying big money to splash it’s image on the TV during morning TV. Still the idea that humans are slaves to what they see on TV is REALLY crass IMHO.

During the build-up to the mid-term election I got a LOT of Mail, and even had a state rep knock on my door. I honestly hadn’t heard of the guy before, but I shoot his hand and took his flier. Then I read the thing, and it was loaded with “Progressive” “Social Justice” crap. I’m glad he stopped by and gave me his literature, otherwise I might have made the mistake for voting for him!

Also there’s also such a thing as “Diminishing Returns”, You can spend a million dollars and get your candidate’s ad on a few really good prime-time spot, and smatter that ad in a few cheaper spots to boot. OR you could spend 5 BILLION dollars and buy the station for an election cycle….and people won’t watch that station because it’s only political ads for one candidate.

The same goes for things like the recent Anti-Gun Bloomberg push. Since the laws and sentiments are mostly and import, not only is Bloomberg having to buy air time to advertise, but also he has to buy support. We see this all the time, unions paying members to pick up a sign at a rally, or Shannon Watts and a few other octogenarian “Moms” getting flown out to the NRA show for a “Protest”….meanwhile the NRA members PAID to get to the show. There are times when we can “outspend” our opponents without spending a cent! That’s the difference between grassroots and top-down politics.

And then there’s this: Turns out the “Altruism” of Obamacare is rooted in Hatred. No, people can’t POSSIBLE understand the economics of this bill, so we will intentionally LIE about it.

Same goes for other political issues! Oh no, those people don’t vote against gun control because they have a good reason! They vote on it because they’re inbred moron racists who hate women!

Sorry, I can’t even gin up that amount of contempt for the “Progressives” who are leveling this kind of ire at me.

Still “Because you are a moron, and I hate you”, is NEVER a good reason to give somebody the reins of power…

“Gun Death” Junkie

The anti-gun people who constantly trumpet “Gun Death” seem to think that more laws will lower violence. Look at this story:

A 33-year-old central Ohio man has apologized for fatally beating his 78-year-old grandfather in 2012, blaming it on his heroin addiction.

So say putting an outright ban on guns (like the outright ban we have on heroin) would mean NOBODY would have guns! Yeah, well this guy got his heroin pretty easily, if he had wanted a gun, I’m sure he would have gotten one of those too. Of course he probably was too interested in spending any money he could find or steal on his junk habit, people more interested in murder than an opiate high could use the same illegal trade to get guns.

And of course we have the horrible fact that he didn’t have a gun, but he IS a murderer. “Gun Death” has NOTHING to do with murder rates, or violent crime. That has to do with people.

Why are they so focused on “Gun Death”? They aren’t concerned with public safety, just banning guns!

Play Me Out: Fun Fact

A good song, but an even better lesson!

Now I’m a Marine Biologist who lives in the North East, so I don’t know SHIT about Cactus. Turns out they DO only live within the confines of the Sonoran Desert, which is VERY much not in Texas!

From Wikipedia:

The saguaro is often used as an emblem in commercials and logos that attempt to convey a sense of the Southwest, even if the product has no connection to Arizona or the Sonoran Desert. For instance, no naturally occurring saguaros are found within 250 miles (400 km) of El Paso, Texas, but the silhouette is found on the label of Old El Paso brand products.

Heh!

“Gun Death” 4Chan Killer

Ahhh 4Chan the wretched hive of scum and villainy on the internet! Generally it’s just a bunch of mentally mal-adjusted kids saying shit they shouldn’t on the internet. But not always:

The Washington state man charged with strangling his girlfriend and posting photos of her body online wrote a note saying he did it for “no reason other than I was drunk and she pissed me off,” according to court documents released Friday.

**KILLER** is accused of strangling **VICTIM**, 30, sometime late Monday or Tuesday in the Port Orchard apartment both shared, then posting graphic photos of her body to the online forum 4chan

…In court documents released Friday, investigators said **KILLER** apparently scrawled a note before he turned himself in that read: “I killed **VICTIM**. I strangled her with my hands then a shoelace I had no reason other than I was drunk and she pissed me off.” The note was signed with the initials “DK.” The note also read, “running from the cops was so much fun.”

Man, maybe we should ban 4chan! Or ban alcohol! I don’t know if banning shoelaces would have done much, but the “Gun Death” crowd likes to talk about “universal background checks” after somebody buys a gun at an FFL then shoots somebody, so why not that too!

In the end, he didn’t shoot her, so her death will be ignored.

Asshole

Angus King was the Governor of Maine up until I moved to Massachusetts. He was Horrible, and I hated him even when I cast my vote (back in my “Progressive Days”) for Al Gore. He did nothing for the state as Governor, and now is doing the same for the country as a Senator.

And if you guys are saying people shouldn’t have health insurance, I don’t know where you’re coming from.

People’s health insurance is being CANCELLED, and this will only get worse when Obamacare moves on to effect large employers. There are LESS people with healthcare since this law went into effect, and more people are paying MORE MONEY for LESS COVERAGE when it comes to people who do.

His mock concern is infuriating!

Thanks For All Who Served

Had to take the baby out to run some errands, and we stopped by the town hall which has several war memorials all decked out for today. The baby really liked the flowers and flags, but didn’t understand why.

The Daddy understands why and knows many who served. Thank you all.

“Gun Death” Messy Divorce

This is just horrible:

The 40-year-old mother wanted for murdering her two-year-old daughter was found Sunday night and arrested off a remote coastal logging road in Oregon.

Canon Beach, Oregon police held a press conference Sunday night, saying they found **REDACTED** with the help of the coast guard, parked at the end of a logging road off Highway 26. She did not appear armed or injured and is set to be arraigned in Clatsop County court on Monday at 1pm.

Smith went missing Friday morning, after her toddler daughter **REDACTED** was found dead and her 13-year-old daughter **REDACTED** seriously injured in a Canon Beach hotel room.

She was in the middle of a bitter divorce with husband **REDACTED** at the time, and was supposed to hand her children over to him that day.

So she was getting a divorce, and the father had access to the kids. But rather than play by the rules she attempted to kill them. Thankfully the older girl is expected to survive.

Why again, are we so fixated on the metric of “Gun Death”? Seems the anti-gun people are ignoring so many violent crimes because they only want to ban guns.

H/T Bob
