No, Dear Friends, This Wasn’t Me

Sent by friends who know me well:

A West Seattle house was set on fire by a man trying to kill a spider with a makeshift blow torch.

…Firefighters say the man who rented the house was trying to kill a spider in the laundry room with a can of spray paint and a lighter. The flames quickly spread through the room and into the attic.

“I saw flames coming out of the side of the house and heard popping sounds,” said neighbor Sue Green.

While I have exterminated insects with flamable liquids, often in an FAE fashion, I am super safe (within reason) and always do it OUTSIDE and away from flammable structures, and with ample water supply near at hand.

Be safe out there people…but being safe does not mean NOT having a good time, or killing pests!

Agenda Driven False Dichotomy

Here’s an interesting article:

The National Institutes of Health estimates that over ¼ of persons 18 years and older in the US suffer from some type of mental health disorder. The World Health Organization indicates that this is the highest percentage in the world. Even though the statistics may be somewhat biased because mental health issues are likely reported more frequently in the United States than elsewhere, it is still an alarming number.

The US percentage compared to the world is a total crap number. This all depends on how much a nation cares and treats mental illness, as well as how they define it. I remember being told by a Georgian exchange student that the nation of Georgia had NO (ZERO) homosexuals. None, just how it is! NO! It just meant that homosexuals were (and still are) persecuted so much that they are forced to hide their sexual identity for their own well-being.

Now let’s talk about what defines “Mental Illness”, in the United States it covers just about EVERYTHING! Your’s truly is “Mentally Ill”, tho I don’t label myself as such. I have ADD, Oh no, the horror! These illnesses can range from debilitating diseases like severe schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, to simple anxiety and attention deficit disorders. This leads to the next part:

The issue becomes even more concerning when you combine the mental health problem with the wide availability of fire arms. There are currently about 270 million firearms in the United States, and they are relatively easy to acquire.

How concerning? I mean how much of the violent crime is related to mentally ill people with guns? Sean added to a recent post of mine showing that the majority of violent crime in America is directly related to criminals in the drug trade and the related gang system.

This isn’t people shooting because there are voices in their head, these are people operating outside the rule of law protecting a business that is banned by the United States Government, and heavily enforced at the local level.

If you sell cars and somebody fails to make the promised payment for a vehicle sold you can call the police or take them to court. If somebody fails to pay for the kilo of coke you sold them, your only recourse is to take matters into your own hand.

It’s anti-social, but it’s also highly logical. It’s SANE violent behavior. This is just made-up agenda-driven fear-mongering.

If you couldn’t tell what flag this author is flying there’s this:

The NRA and the irrational cult of fire arms in our country has contributed to not allowing background checks to be implemented for people wanting to purchase fire arms.

Ahh gun owners are an “Irrational Cult”, sounds like they’re a bunch of nut-jobs!

This is the no-true Scotsman fallacy! You see if you want guns, or support the Second Amendment as it is written and interpreted by the courts you’re crazy…and probably shouldn’t have guns!

He also goes on with the tired “Well we register cars!” crap…yeah we’ve played that game!

Why do they make all these convoluted arguments when they could just say “Let’s ban all guns!”

We all know why!

“Gun Death” Monster Set Free

A “Gun Death” and a Bad Justice story. Ye Been Warned:

A man believed to have stabbed a 6-year-old boy to death and critically injured a 7-year-old girl in a knife attack in a public housing building elevator that didn’t have security cameras was arrested just minutes after the mayor and the police commissioner publicly identified him and appealed for help catching him, police said.

**REDACTED** has a history of violent assault, with nine arrests on his criminal record, including two for assaulting police and correction officers, and he was released on May 23 in a domestic-assault case, authorities said. He was sentenced to time behind bars after convictions for attempted murder and assault, serving three years in city jails and two years in an upstate prison, state correction records show.

What exactly did people expect when you set a monster like this free? He was violent on the streets, he was violent in jail, and then they let him go and he killed a young boy!

Hey but thanks to New York City’s AMAZING gun laws he only used a knife to kill this young boy and severely injure a young girl. Thankfully he never had to fear that those elevator doors might open, and a citizen seeing what he had done decided to put a few rounds in him.

Now that would be horrible! Also it would be a “Gun Death”, and that would be a tragedy society couldn’t handle!

Sick!

FPS Games are Good for Gun Culture

Now I won’t nit-pick all the little factual errors and newbie mistakes on the range. I’ll just share the video:

A professional video gamer who spends a lot of time shooting stuff in cyber space decides to up his game to meat space.

There’s a lot of difference between games and real life, but that difference is shrinking. One thing that doesn’t translate is trigger control.

Still people who get into these realistic shooters are naturally inclined to try the real thing. Trying the real thing gets you more into the technical details of them. Knowing more about the technical details means you’re less likely to succumb to the lies of those who want to ban them.

I’m happy!

Joan Likes to Lie

Man she’s posting a LOT! This one is really target-rich with lies:

I have been writing about things that can go wrong when the wrong people are able to get their hands on loaded guns. But it’s not just the wrong ( prohibited buyers) who do bad things with guns and bullets. It’s sometimes those who can legally buy guns who have no intent to kill anyone but do anyway in a moment of anger, depression, jealousy, during a relationship separation, after too much alcohol, or while believing, sometimes falsely, that another is out to harm them. Occasionally a shooting is justified to save one’s life. But most of the shootings in America are not for that reason. The majority of gun deaths are among people who know each other( pg. 10)

Let’s look at the report she cites. First it is simply a homicide report, I haven’t read the whole thing but page 10 which she cites is not broken down by means of homicide, just homicide in general. So the deaths cited, contrary to how she frames it, are not all “Gun Deaths”.

Females were more likely than males to be the victim of intimate
killings (63.7%) and sex-related homicides (81.7%)
(table 5)
.

Males were more likely to be involved in drug- (90.5%) and
gang-related homicides (94.6%).

Doesn’t really sound like she read the same report does it? I wonder what constitutes a “Sex-related Homicide”. Still it’s the bulk of the female homicides, and no data on how many are “Gun Deaths”. Of course as we know the majority of homicides are drug or gang related. Again not what Joan is talking about, nor does it really support her agenda, but we’ll get to that.

A small group of American gun owners have been influenced by the ramped up fear and paranoia about gun confiscation or some sort of government take over of their rights to buy or own guns.

And you wonder why they might think that, huh Joan? Remember Joan is 100% in favor of confiscating firearms from lawful owners.

American gun culture that has taken a turn away from hunting and recreational gun use.

The 2nd Amendment is not about shooting ducks and deer. The 2nd Amendment is NOT about poking holes in pieces of paper or shooting tin cans. Again, why are we concerned that guns will be confiscated when somebody who is in favor of confiscating guns also states that she sees the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution “extreme”, and something that should be ignored?

America has more gun deaths per 100,000 than any civilized democratized country not at war.

Not only is that not true, I’m not even sure that’s English! Yep we have more “gun deaths” than any other civilized “democratized” nation, except for the ones we don’t, but I guess those nations aren’t civilized or “democratized” enough!!!!

Even most gun owners side with those of us who just want a world where our loved ones don’t get shot to death

Not even citing the bogus study properly. First up there is NO nation on the planet where people don’t get shot. The only time that world didn’t exist was before the invention of the firearm, and then we were just hacking and beating each other to death. Odd how Joan always cites that she is in the majority, but she can’t even get comments on her blog supporting her, let alone people to support her crazed views politically.

If what she claimed was true, all guns would be banned now. The only logical assumption is the study she improperly cites was wrong, and she’s a liar.

We understand that there are people who believe that owning and carrying a gun makes them safer. So be it. But these folks also fight against measures to lessen the risks of loaded guns in homes and in public. That just doesn’t make sense.

Umm, if guns make us safer, than why would we want to ban having guns in home and in public? Let me know where you’re confused, Joan, I’m here to help!

Our country is home to regularly occurring mass shootings.

Umm, no they aren’t, mass shootings are statistical anomalies and very uncommon, the the overall rate is unchanged, the rate per-capita, or per-gun-owner is on the DECLINE.

I have met Sandy and know that she is making a difference. In a short time after the death of her daughter, she has traveled the country to support others in their grief after high profile shootings like Sandy Hook and the Santa Barbara shooting while working for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. She has supported the efforts of those working to strengthen gun laws in states all over the country.

If you type in “Brady Campaign Victories” into Google it SHOULD respond “Do you mean Brady Campaign Defeats?”. Man I would LOVE a job where failure results on a pat on the head and a gold star!

The shooter had mental illness. He was able to buy guns anyway. He got his ammunition- 100 round drum magazines- from a private seller on the Internet. Who needs 100 round drum magazines for anything reasonable regarding guns? For what purpose does someone buy this type of ammunition for personal use? To kill as many people as possible of course.

There is a lot of talk about the Aurora 100 round AR-15 magazine. What there isn’t is hard evidence. There has never been a police report released that says WHERE and in what condition it was found it. The only hard evidence anybody has seen was a news Helicopter shot of the shooter’s rifle lying on the ground outside the theater where he dropped it, with a 30 round magazine fixed in the well. For all we know the 100 round drum was empty and in his car. It’s all speculation. Of course we DO know why HE bought his ammo, but he’s hardly the only person buying bulk ammo online. Is there a Costco, Sam’s Club, or BJ’s near you, Joan? Does your grocery store sell toilet paper in large packs? Why, how often does one need to wipe their ass? Duhh, ammo is a durable commodity, and when you buy in bulk, you save. Further the recent ammo droughts make even the more stalwart shooters with millions of rounds in their collection thinking that maybe they didn’t buy QUITE enough.

Yes, the shooter was severely mentally ill, but that has nothing to do with background checks, it has everything to do with a failure of a system. Of course Joan just wants to ban guns, so she could give two shits about the mental health system.

We can strengthen our background check system to make sure that everyone who purchases a gun should be able to own one. Congress just needs to Finish The Job which they could do if they weren’t so afraid of the corporate gun lobby. We can educate the public about the risks of guns in the home and make sure guns are stored, locked up and unloaded to stop small children from getting their hands on them- teens and others from using them in gun suicides- and to keep thieves from stealing them.

So this whole post has been about mass shootings. This is the anniversary of the Aurora shooting where the shooter bought his firearms after passing a background check. She mentions Sandy Hook where the shooter’s firearms were locked up and stolen after he murdered his mother.

Also the whole “Locked and Unloaded” business is something taught by the “Evil Corporate Gun Lobby”, yeah if you aren’t using a gun, or have it for defensive means, unload it an lock it up. That’s real common sense, and not anything new. Still Joan seems to want ALL guns (before she can confiscate them, of course) to be unloaded and locked up, which of course is unconstitutional, but fuck that old document, what does it mean?

Man, NOTHING but lies there. She might be unaware of some of her dishonesty, but she can’t be unaware of ALL of it. So why is she intentionally being misleading?

Maybe the same reason why she has said in the past she supports door-to-door confiscation, but in this post notes that people are paranoid about door-to-door confiscations.

She simply wants to take all the guns, she knows this is wildly unpopular, so she chooses to lie so that at some point she can take all the guns.

Anti-Gun Hypocrites

Now in actuality anti-gun people AREN’T hypocrites, they’re simply liars. All of these arguments are moot when you note that whatever they say about public safety, or background checks, or magazine size etc, the reality is they want to ban ALL guns from EVERYONE, with the possible exception of police, military, and private security, and even those issues are debatable.

We have the great “Progressive” platform that showing an ID before you collect what becomes an untraceable ballot as soon as it’s collected is racist and onerous. Meanwhile before somebody can buy or sell a firearm you must employ a federally licensed gun dealer to conduct the transfer with ID, background checks, personal information, and firearm information all changing multiple hands.

That’s just “Common Sense”. Furthermore guns that can be transferred in any way MUST have a serial number, must be logged at the manufacturer, and must only be transferred from the manufacturer to a licensed gun dealer. Now with private sales the trail of a gun CAN go cold, especially if that gun has been in circulation for a long time, but of course the proposed gun laws won’t effect that in any way. Still recently made guns will have a pretty fresh trail. If officials REALLY wanted to track down a gun today they can. Hell just look at any of the national news shootings, they have all the information on when and where the guns used in the crime were bought.

Still the people who are against “Universal Background Checks” cite financial reasons (if you’re selling a gun because you want money for it, you don’t want to have to PAY money to get that money, no matter the fee, and if you’re simply bartering goods and services with a gun, demanding a background check suddenly requires cash to exchange hands) but also the idea that this will eventually create a registry of all law abiding gun owners in the country.

Well we already have that in many places. Massachusetts has a gun registry for all lawfully held firearms in the state. It’s never to my knowledge used to solve a crime. What it CAN be used for is demanding that I turn in my guns or go to prison. Oddly the antis never talk about that part.

Here’s another. I showed this image on a post a while ago:

Now I just found this image:

So which is it? Is the American private arsenal more powerful than the military, OR is it simply insignificant?

You can’t have it both ways. That of course is hypocrisy, but when you know their motivations, it’s just dishonesty. They don’t care HOW many guns are owned by civilians, or the military, the only number they care about is ZERO! They want private citizens to own NO firearms. Zip, Zero. And that includes single-shot rifles, double-barreled shotguns, and guns like black powder arms, and air rifles that even the ATF doesn’t count as guns.

Of course the truth is not something the populous will find reasonable, so they simply lie to make themselves out to be something they aren’t.

Oh, BTW interesting how they broke the military numbers down to 1 million handguns and 3 million rifles, but state in small print how they have no idea if those numbers are accurate. Good job guys!

Images of the Antis: Barbaric

They can’t win on Public safety, because more people are carrying than ever before, and more people own guns than ever before, and the types of guns most popular are small Concealed Carry guns, and “Large Capacity” “Assault-Style” guns. All of this, and America is a SAFER place, as violent crime drops across the board.

So they have to simply declare us monsters and demand we are hated.

Yep, gun owners are sacrificing children to our god-like guns.

Odd I just got back from the grocery store. We went as a whole family, and I was carrying a gun. Why do you think I was carrying a gun in the grocery store? Was it so maybe a child could die, or if there happened to be danger I could defend mine?

Who are the monsters?

“Gun Death” Wood Chipper

It’s as bad as you think:

A Florida man died Monday after falling into a giant wood chipper.

The unidentified landscaper was working with two other men near a Davie home when he somehow ended up inside the machine. Police arriving at the scene were horrified and needed grief counselors to cope, according to reports.

I’ve been in police work 20 years. I’ve never seen anything like this,’ Davie Police Captain Dale Engle told the Sun-Sentinel. ‘It was a gruesome scene.’

It was so bad it messed up the POLICE officers.

If you’ve ever seen these big machines going, they can easily pull branches that weigh hundreds of pounds into the chipped and turn the whole thing into mulch.

Useful tools for getting rid of scrap wood and felled trees, but also can be VERY deadly.

Stupid Laws Beget Other Stupid Laws

See California bans single-shot handguns:

California has banned the sale of single-shot handguns that can be altered into semi-automatic weapons, handing a modest victory to proponents of tougher gun laws while striving to protect antique collectors.

Now I was only vaguely familiar with this practice:

Under existing California law, semi-automatic weapons must have an indicator showing when there is a bullet in the chamber. But many manufacturers do not include the feature, leading some dealers to convert guns to single-shot weapons before selling them, though they are later reverted back, Dickinson said.

This was a simple work-around California’s “Safety Roster” laws. Take a GLOCK, affix a solid block with a raceway so single cartridges can be fed into the action, and voila! A legal gun under the law.

Later the owner can remove the block to open up the magazine well for standard use. This really is a true “Loophole” in the law, as unlike removing features from So-Called “Assault Weapons”, this was designed so that the features could be added back by the end user.

A similar workaround is often done in Massachusetts. Guns are required to be sold with a heavier trigger than factory specs. Since the “Safety” Roster laws only apply to guns being sold by FFLs not by guns owned by private citizens the Mass Legal parts can simply be swapped with factory original, after market, or simply modified by a gunsmith and away you go.

Still the bottom line is the stupidity of these laws. The idea that a gun with a loaded chamber indicator (LCI), or some other optional feature is pure pseudoscience. Many of my guns have LCIs of some sort, and I refuse to use them, and won’t teach new shooters about them. Instead I choose to teach new shooters and use myself the much more reliable method of press-checking the gun for a gun presumed loaded, and clearing the action for a gun presumed unloaded. The idea that you would simply pull the trigger on a gun simply because the LCI indicates that the gun is empty, or trust your life with a gun because the LCI indicates it’s loaded is foolish, and in both cases it could get you killed. The most common LCIs are pieces that protrude when they are in contact with the case of a round. A worn, broken, or stuck part may not protrude even if the gun is loaded, and a dirty, worn, or stuck part might protrude all the time independent of what status the chamber is.

Also what I see in a lot of guns that weren’t designed to have an LCI is the practice of drilling a “Witness Hole” in the chamber hood so the rim of the chambered round can be visually inspected. This is a small hole, so good light is needed, and the hole needs to be aligned with your eye. In playing with this feature on guns loaded with dummy ammunition for safety I find it is VERY easy to lose track of where your muzzle is pointed as you try and inspect your chamber. DANGEROUS!

The bottom line is the law is crap at it’s core, so rather than STRENGTHENING bad laws we should just repeal it. Of course California doesn’t care about safety or logic, all they care about is banning guns!

Justifiable Force

We could debate it, but I’m going to call fair ball on this one:

A father in Florida delivered instant vengeance to an 18-year-old man he caught molesting the dad’s 11-year-old son. The father reportedly walked in on the act after **PERV REDACTED** (pictured) took the boy to a back room of the house and pulled his pants down.

According to police the father did not use any weapons and beat the man so badly he wasn’t moving. The dad told police on the 911 call “He is nice and knocked out on the floor for you.” The father also added he didn’t stop to ask questions after he realized what was happening. “I just walked in a grown man molesting…and I got him in a bloody puddle for you, officer.”

Now the father hasn’t been charged with a crime, but Chester Molester with the stove-in face has more punishment to take in the courts. Of course reporters feel the need to use flashy but inaccurate words. Sexual assault is assault, and by the nature of it, it can be considered a deadly force scenario. The father took action to stop the crime, and he used restraint by not using a weapon.

Could he have stopped short of when he did? Maybe, Maybe not. But look at that mug shot? I will not question art!
