Heh, I’ve Done This!

The baby waking up before I’ve decided helps a LOT with this function!

How Gun Laws Work

I was debating using this story mostly because I found it more depressing than anything else.

A 15-year-old girl in Little Rock, Arkansas, is dead, police say, because of a prank that went horribly and tragically wrong.

…The teenagers told police they had thrown toilet paper, eggs and mayonnaise on a car parked there.

As they were leaving, a man came out of the house and opened fire.

Broadway was struck in the head and died.

Another teenager, the driver, suffered injuries to his right arm. He was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

I’m typing it because a bunch of antis are dancing in this poor girl’s blood. Still what do the antis want? A young woman and a friend were engaging in minor criminal acts. Stupid move, but not worth their lives. A man shot and killed her and wounded her friend. Stupid move, and it IS worth his life.

And that’s likely what will happen. This is murder, and like the aforementioned Dunn case he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

What do they want background checks? Wouldn’t have stopped this. Licensing and registration? Wouldn’t have stopped this. Repeal of Self Defense laws? This wasn’t self defense. Banning guns or magazines? Again, nope.

And for what? A criminal man is in custody, and facing some serious charges. I have little doubt justice will be served in this case.

What the antis want is the REST of us to be punished for this crime, and they ignore the GOOD done with firearms because it doesn’t suit their agenda.

Images of the Antis: Twofer

One is just to point and laugh:

Now this story is hardly a good one. I haven’t been following it at all, but Mas Ayoob has, and knows more about such things than I.

Even if Dunn DID shoot in self defense, and not as an act of murder, he did everything wrong. Of course this also show how dumb the antis are for prattling about how we need to repeal Stand Your Ground law because A) This wasn’t a SYG case, and B) It looks like Dunn will likely spend most or all of the rest of his life in prison.

Still the big moment of stupidity is that obviously the lobbyists who want to advocate what guns we can own, and how any why we can use them don’t seem to understand the basics of how our legal system works. Hell they can’t even understand the dumbed-down reportings by the paper!

Dunn was convicted on the attempted murder charges (and again those charges are enough for him to die in prison if served consecutively) but the charge of Murder in the 1st was declared a mistrial.

That simply means that he’ll be tried for that charge at a later date. Mas Ayoob notes that Murder 1 doesn’t seem like the best charge. From his article I’d say Murder 2 is a much better fit…and again enough to keep Mr. Dunn in prison until he dies.

Do they think he was cleared of those charges? Certainly it reads that way. WOW!

Next up is this image:

Now note that there is a single dot on the map for Maine. I was surprised I hadn’t heard of that. That got me scratching my head about this. Now I find this article:

They claimed that 44 shootings occurred in schools and colleges nationwide since the Newtown, Conn. massacre on Dec. 14, 2012 and Feb. 10 of this year. Out of the 44 shootings, a total of 28 died. To dramatize their numbers, Bloomberg’s groups emphasized that one of these attacks occurred every 10 days.

But their statistics are not what they seem. Included in the numbers are suicides. Also included are late night shootings taking place in school parking lots, on their grounds or even off school property, often involving gangs. As “shootings,” they also include any incident where shots were fired, even when nobody was injured.

They even link the Maine story I wasn’t able to find:

A 19-year-old man shot and killed himself in a parking lot at Gray-New Gloucester High School Saturday afternoon, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

No one else was hurt in the incident, which took place at about 12:50 p.m., when several athletic events were going on at the school. The shooting took place near the end zone of a field that was being used for a field hockey game, said Sheriff’s Capt. Shawn O’Leary.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately release the name of the man, but said he had never attended the school and was not from the Gray-New Gloucester area.

They say “School Shooting” because its an emotionally charged term that frightens people. The reason why I wasn’t able to find this story in my searches was because it wasn’t a “School Shooting” in the emotionally charged sense.

Lots of their 44 “School Shootings” aren’t, but they don’t want us to know that! They want us to be afraid so we might think their dumb laws aren’t so dumb!

“Gun Death” Massive Motor Fatality

Far more than most “Mass Shootings” reported by the “Gun Death” fanatics:

Eleven people died early Sunday in two highway collisions, one in Florida and one in California, caused by drivers going the wrong way, authorities said.

Five people died in the Florida collision and six were killed in California.

And of course you never hear the antis call for banning cars. They DO talk about licenses, and registration, ect. None of those seemed to help much.

This part is particularly gruesome:

A Ford Expedition SUV traveling south on northbound Interstate 275 in Tampa, Florida, collided head-on with a Hyundai Sonata just after 2 a.m., killing the SUV driver and all four people in the other car, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The SUV became engulfed in flames, the patrol report said. The other vehicle was also damaged by fire. The driver and all three passengers in the car were members of the Sigma Beta Rho fraternity at the University of South Florida in Tampa, the patrol said.

Nasty crash, but it doesn’t count because it isn’t a “Gun Death”.

H/T Motor-T Bob, Whipped Cream Difficulties, and Archer who adds this bit: ““wrong way” crashes kill an average of 360 people per year. That’s just “wrong way” crashes, even with all the bright-red “WRONG WAY” and “DO NOT ENTER” signage.

Now, compare that with “gun deaths”: Rifles (of any kind, not just “scary black rifles”) were used to kill 322 in 2012 (332 in 2011; the more commonly used number), and shotguns were used to end 303 lives in 2012 (356 in 2011).” Link

Remington R-51

Jeff got one, and he likes his:

Jeff is a pro gun writer, so some have complained that he can overlook faults.

I personally have bought several guns upon his good review of them, and I find that he gives fair reviews.

I like the concept of the R-51, as I like single-stack guns for concealed carry and love all the work they’ve done for a low bore axis.
At the price Remington is asking, I’m sure we’ll see a LOT of these in the wild.

More Selective Inforcement

Seems that if you are one of the “More equal Animals” you don’t need to worry about the law:

Jerome Hauer, a top aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, appears to have regularly carried a firearm to work in violation of state law.

Hauer runs New York’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Cuomo, an advocate of ultra-strict gun control laws, appointed him to the job in 2011.

Hauer’s 9-millimeter Glock first came to the attention of local newspapers when he used the gun’s laser sighting attachment as a pointer during a meeting with a Swedish delegation. That event occurred last October at a State Police bunker, and was first reported by the Albany Times Union in January.

…On Wednesday, the Times Union learned that Hauer had received a waiver allowing him to carry a handgun to work. The waiver was issued only four days after they ran the story about Hauer using the laser sight as a pointer.

“Despite the lack of a waiver before January, several witnesses said he has been carrying a gun on the job since Cuomo appointed him in 2011,” the Times Union reported.

This is probably good news for this joker.

Bad news of course if you live in New York, are NOT connected, and are caught violating the myriad of horrible gun laws.

Great DGU

From the Armed Citizen:

The store owner’s attitude reflects my own. I don’t want to EVER have to shoot anybody, but if I do draw my weapon to protect a human life it will be the other person’s choice, not mine, and I have no sympathy for that.

Criminals need to learn that this sort of behavior might get them killed. Whatever they thought they’d get that night was NOT worth what they DID get.

The Worst Holiday

Well given my current job is baby wrangling, I will not be joining my co-workers in a day-off due to President’s day, but I will have some relief as the wife also has the day off.

I ALMOST get the idea of celebrating the Birth of Washington, and like the efficiency of rolling it into the nearby celebration of Lincoln’s birthday. I mean one of the big issues with this country is nobody actually wants to work anymore, so why would we want MORE days when the government grinds to a halt? Still its not like a President is something to celebrate. I’m glad we have them, and I love our three branch system of government, but the idea to me of President’s day is a stupid as “Legislator Day”.

Further while Washington is probably the most deserving of celebration, he was a man who COULD have been king, or Emperor. In stead he held a single term and then retired.

President’s day reeks to me of “The Kings Birthday” celebrations in other nations I want no part in.

Some Culinary Devil Magic

The Mrs. Made this for a crock pot pot luck (many puns were had with that party idea) over at Casa De Vector.

S’More Fondue. We were dunking anything available into this stuff! We started with graham crackers, marshmallows, angle food cake, and granola bars. We later were dunking girl scout cookies and oreos.

Seriously, my pancreas wrote me a strongly worded note against my behavior that day. I haven’t asked Vector what the leftovers did. I’m wondering if it hardens into fudge.

Also the next time we try it, I’d like to see if we can drop in at least one bar of dark chocolate to get a bit more bitterness to it.

Highly Recommended!

“Gun Death” Machete

Another Machete Death!

A 25-year-old man has been charged with killing his parents with a machete on the Meskwaki Settlement in central Iowa.

If this had been a gun, rather than a cheap blade found in every hardware store and easily purchased online for only a few dollars, it would be called a “Mass Shooting”. Since it was a Machete, it will be ignored.

You see, only “Gun Deaths” count!

H/T Bob
