Back in the Cold!

Man, when I woke up this morning I knew today was going to hurt!

I put on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and took little LaWeer’da for a walk around the neighborhood. at 9am it was in the low 70s, and sunny.

This evening in Boston is was in the low 30s with high winds. OUCH! That is a NASTY shock to the old system.

Still today wasn’t too painful. LaWeer’da’s eyes slammed shut as soon as the plane took flight and stayed closed until we hit the tarmac in Boston. Also flying with an infant is the BEST way to avoid TSA bullshit. You walk through a metal detector (all three of us) and they examine all formula and bottles before you’re clear.

No Perv-o-Scanner, no pat downs for anybody. Its a nice change!

Also given my baby was on her best behavior, it was awesome.

Also little baby noticed immediately that she was home and was all smiles and laughs and wet to bed on her normal time with no protests. I wish we could have spent more time in Florida (also I wish I could have met up with McThag, Erin, and any other Florida bloggers, but this trip was for Grand Parents and relaxation so no spare time was to be found) but for a little trip down south it was awesome!

“Gun Death” Climbing Murder

I’ll let the story give you the details:

When Geoffrey Farrar was found bleeding from the head and lying mortally injured at the base of a cliff near the Billy Goat Trail in Montgomery County, word quickly spread through the rock-climbing community that the 69-year-old had taken a rare, tragic fall….But his death on a Saturday afternoon, three days after Christmas, was no climbing accident, according to federal authorities. They allege that he was killed in a dispute with a younger climber he had mentored for about two decades and that the weapon was a claw hammer, a tool common in the sport, wielded near one of the C&O Canal park’s most popular trails.

Yep, we need to ban guns because they make it “too easy” for a simple dispute to become murder. “Gun Death” is a bullshit metric!

“Gun Death” Atomic Wedgie

I’ve heard about these, but never imagined them to be deadly:

Authorities have arrested a man in the bizarre killing of his stepfather, who was found with his own underwear stretched around his head and neck. The stepson called it an “atomic wedgie.”…When authorities questioned Davis, he said St. Clair asked him to come over for drinks. The men began arguing and Davis told officers that St. Clair “came at him,” and they began exchanging blows.

Davis told investigators that he hit St. Clair’s head, causing him to lose consciousness.

Then, Davis said, he grabbed his stepfather’s underwear and gave him an “atomic wedgie” by pulling the underwear over his stepfather’s head….The cause of death has been determined to be from blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxiation. The death has been ruled a homicide, said Amy Elliott, Oklahoma state medical examiner’s spokeswoman.

WOW!!! BRUTAL! Not a “Gun Death”, but does that make it any less Brutal?

Hello Florida!

It’s cold in Florida, meaning that its only PERFECT weather.

Little LaWeer’da slept the whole flight, and most of the car ride to her Grandfather’s house.

She likes it here, which is nice, but it made getting her to sleep was more than a little challenging.

Still alls well this morning.

Flying With Infants

At least for today it means no perv-o-scan, no pat downs, just metal detector and some scrutiny of her formula.

Man almost like flying in AMERICA this way.

This of course is just for today, and Logan, I’ll let you’ll know on our return how it goes.

“Gun Death” Merry Christmas

Pretty sick!

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man who had been asked to move out of the Chicago apartment he shared with his aunt and her boyfriend killed the older man with a hammer, then cut off the man’s head, ears and nose and left them on his aunt’s bed “as a present,” prosecutors said Friday.

Hey, but its Chicago that keeps people safe with its CRAZY gun control! So not a “Gun Death”!

More on Australia

From Waldo:

Drowning is one of the leading cause of death in children under five with majority of those deaths occurring in backyard pools. So why haven’t backyard pools been banned? If any other product or activity caused so many injuries and deaths in our most vulnerable they would be banned, there would be lawsuits, there would be outrage. Except backyard pools are an intrinsic part of Australian culture, and it’s costing us children’s lives….Backyard pools need to be banned. They are way too dangerous. It doesn’t matter if you have a pool fence, locks on your back door, are super vigilant, have children who can swim. Drowning deaths and backyard pool related injuries are too frequent for us to ignore.

When I bought my house it came with a cheap above-ground pool. I hacked it up with an axe and tossed it in my dumpster. I moved in about a dozen guns, but pools are fucking dangerous, and they’re an insurance liability.

But I live in New England, where pool ownership is, to put it lightly, stupid. They’re good for maybe 3 months out of the year, and the rest of the time is maintaining them.

Still Australia is NOT New England, nor is the Southern or Western United states. Its hot, dry, and you have a decently long warm season in even the coolest climates.

Have a watch of the advocate for this ban prattle!

Might as well just ban adulthood…which isn’t too far off, as “Progressives” are calling adults 26 and under “Children” for Obamacare, as well as any other political axe they want to grind.

Also from Aussie news from Cargosquid. It turns out that Aussies are as well armed as they were before the mass government confiscation.

“By mid-2012, following a steady 10-year upward trend in gun buying, Australians had restocked the national stockpile of private guns to pre-Port Arthur levels. They did this by importing 1,055,082 firearms, an average of 43,961 each year since destruction programs began.”

Yet the antis claim no mass shootings and low “Gun Death”. Maybe it isn’t the guns….

On “Safe Guns”

I have a novel idea on this whole “Safe Gun” argument.

The antis are always talking about “Safe Gun” technology, be it crazy mandatory safeties, microstamping, and unproven biometrics or RFID technology that only allows the gun to be fired by authorized users.

Here’s a simple solution. Pass a law enforcing whatever technology they hold dear, but have it be for law enforcement only. Demand it to be 100% at the state or federal level where it is passed and force ALL police weapons, from sidearms, to shotguns, to patrol rifles, SWAT equipment, and even TASERs and pepper spray.

Cops are mandated to carry weapons in their jobs. Most departments have provisions to allow officers to take the weapons home at the end of their shift where their families live and neighbors are nearby. Further due to the nature of law enforcement police are more likely to be involved in shootings, and more likely to have their weapons grabbed or stolen by criminals.

If these technologies are so good, Police have the greatest benefit to gain. After say a 5 year trial period, Anti-rights lawmakers could open up the discussion to civilian arms!

Common Sense!

Bad DGU

From the news report this looks like a bad shoot:

A Florida man arrested for chasing down – and fatally shooting – a suspected burglar in Orlando is claiming self-defense in what legal experts say is likely to become the latest Florida “stand your ground” case… the Sentinel writes a preliminary examination revealing gunshot wounds Sanes sustained to his upper back and the back of his neck suggests he had been shot while attempting to flee from Smith….Armed with the .45-caliber handgun for which he reportedly owns a conceal and carry permit and is wont to keep handy while sitting at home, Smith then jumped the fence into the Fountain at MetroWest apartments – as his girlfriend had watched Sanes do moments before – in pursuit of the suspected burglar.

Once there, Smith reportedly told police he saw Sanes, “looking into windows of apartments as he walked past them,” before he confronted him at gunpoint and grabbed him by the hood of his sweatshirt when the man tried to walk away.

Now the article is citing Trayvon Martin shooting, but there are some big differences. The shooter did NOT attempt to call police, the victim was shot in the back multiple times indicating he was fleeing, and there is no notation of injury to the shooter.

Like the Martin shooting this is NOT a Stand Your Ground case, as the shooter didn’t stand his ground, he gave chase. But as we know from the public lynching of George Zimmerman, none of the facts may be accurate.
