That Tired Idea

Joan Peterson has a post up on the recent termination of Guns and Ammo editor Dick Metcalf. In it she drops this statement.

The thing is, the majority of gun owners are not afraid of changes to gun laws that will strengthen them and lead to safer communities. It is this minority of folks on the fringe who are uncompromising and paranoid about all kinds of things that aren’t true. So recently the Editor and a member of the editorial staff of the popular Guns & Ammo magazine got themselves into trouble for suggesting that common sense should prevail about guns and gun regulations. The writer, Dick Metcalf, was actually questioning the worldview of the gun rights extremists. For that, he suffered the consequences.

Joan has an interesting theory. We know from American Politics that gun owners are a large demographic that indeed can steer elections. Yet if her assessment is both honest and correct (two traits Joan has been proven in the past to be deeply lacking) this HUGE demographic block can’t be bothered to vote, lobby the NRA, vote in NRA elections, or even write letters to the Guns and Ammo editorial board.

My own theory is that this alleged Majority was invented from a flawed study. Still even if it IS true, a “Majority” unwilling and unable to actually stand and be counted deserves exactly what they get.

As for Metcalf, if the various paid lobbyists from both Brady, Joyce, and MAIG (of which Joan counts as two of those) are singing Metcalf’s praises, and meanwhile those organizations have called for bans of EVERYTHING on that magazine’s cover for the past few decades, that’s reason enough to issue Metcalf his walking papers.

Oh and might as well close on some Irony. Joan is quoted as saying first:

The thing is, their echo chamber of paranoid rhetoric that ramps up fear amongst themselves is potentially dangerous. The things they say, they say to each other and themselves.

And then later:

A few days ago I received a comment to my blog post that I did not publish. Why? Because it reflected the insanity and hatred of the gun rights extremists. Their “reasoning” has gone off the rails.

Pot, meet kettle!

Flash Mob: Duck Style!

From The Jack

Now I love me some ducks. It appears shooing them out isn’t going to work, so after that I escalate to pat-pats…that sometimes works, unfortunately.

After that I would have to note that my business does not hold up to duck shit very well and ducks are indeed quite yummy birds…

Sorry ducks, but you DO taste really good!

“Gun Death” “Gunshine State”

Florida is known as the “Gunshine State” and has very high “Gun Death”. We obviously need common sense laws!

Daily and 39-year-old David Floyd got into an argument, and Daily punched Floyd in the face. Floyd told Daily to take a walk to cool off. While he was gone, Floyd decided to call the Sheriff’s Office.

When Daily returned and found out deputies were on the way, he grabbed two kitchen knifes and charged at Floyd, who grabbed a chair to defend himself. When the chair got knocked from Floyd’s hands, Daily stabbed him in the chest. The blade penetrated his heart, and he died later that day at Oak Hill Hospital.

Daily was arrested and charged with first-degree murder about eight hours after the stabbing. Prosecutors decided there wasn’t enough evidence to support the first-degree charge and opted to charge Daily with second-degree murder.

We’re told by those who constantly trumpet “Gun Death” that the ease of access of guns in states like Florida lead to deaths like this. Further that when somebody commits murder they can simply say “I was in fear for my life” and get away free.

Of course I call them “Liars” because they are!

“Gun Death” California

Good thing they have all these great gun laws!

A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his brother early Friday morning at a home on Buena Vista Drive, Santa Cruz County sheriff’s deputies said….The stabbing was reported about 7:20 a.m. by a family member in the home. By the time deputies arrived, the 17-year-old had been taken to Watsonville Community Hospital by car, and he died at the hospital, Kennedy said.

Authorities declined to say how many times or where on his body he was stabbed, nor if the weapon was recovered.

Aren’t we glad he wasn’t shot?

Anti-Freedom, not just Anti-Gun

And again, Massachusetts being an infection on the ass of the nation:

A senator from Massachusetts has joined two New York State pols in calling on Instagram to ban gun sellers from touting their weapons online.

Edward Markey, a Democrat, wrote a letter to Instagram Monday urging the popular online social media site to adopt a no-gun policy…. “We need a clear picture of how gun sales are conducted and transacted through Instagram in order to keep dangerous weapons out of the wrong hands and off our streets,” Markey said.

A recent sampling of Instagram pictures online (pictured) by the Daily News turned up hundreds of guns for sale, including assault weapons.

First up this is said by an asshole Senator from Massachusetts where we have NO private sales, all gun sales here are done through the state, and all legal sales must be conducted with an FID or LTC card which is a de-facto background check…and of course we don’t EVER find drug dealers and gang members with guns here!

Further this is a Senator in a nation where we have GCA ’68 which in fact makes it illegal and defines the “Wrong Hands” and forbids them from getting guns.

They may claim they want to strengthen the “Protections” of GCA, but let’s face it, on the enforcement and judicial side, one more law changes nothing!

Because sellers don’t have to register to promote their guns online, it may be possible that firearms sales are occurring via Instagram to minors, by sellers in states that have prohibitions on interstate sales of firearms, or by sellers who are declining to conduct background checks, Markey said.

States that have prohibition on interstate sales? Ummm we’re talking FEDERAL LAW you twit! No such thing, there is NO interstate sale of guns outside of FFLs (with background checks prescribed by law on all gun sales) of long guns only. Further, again minors and “sellers declining background checks” are also crimes. Don’t harass facebook and instagram, send in the cops if there is such a crime scourge going on.

Oh wait, there isn’t.

Also this sounds a lot like “Progressives” speaking out against the 1st Amendment right to publish photographs of otherwise legal items and activities.

Shameful!

“Gun Death” Stabbing

In Texas where guns grow in trees!

A Denton man was arrested Thursday in connection with the stabbing death of a Ponder man that day, the Denton County sheriff’s office announced Saturday….Joshua Mabrey, 36, was found dead inside a house in the 3100 block of Webb Road about 6:50 a.m. Thursday when deputies responded to a welfare call, officials said. Mabrey, 36, had at least one stab wound to the abdomen, said Troy Taylor, chief death investigator with the Denton County extension of the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Obviously the easy access to guns in Texas is to blame for this!

“Gun Death” Unknown Assailant

This one is kinda scary!

More than two months since an Anchorage man’s beating death, police and prosecutors are still looking for a suspect indicted under the name “John Doe.”

A grand jury handed up manslaughter charges against the man and his alleged accomplice, Thomasina Richardson-Henry, on Oct. 25. Richardson-Henry, 48, had already been jailed on a first-degree assault charge in the August altercation with Timothy Backus, 53, that left Backus unconscious in a hospital. He died days later.

As of Thursday, John Doe was still on the loose, Deputy District Attorney Clint Campion said.

With all that information they may not find him until he kills again. Still his MO doesn’t involve a gun, so the residents of Alaska I’m sure are deeply comforted by this.

“Gun Death” Bus Crash

We need Common Sense Bus Controls!

At least 44 people were burned to death early Wednesday when the luxury bus they were traveling on lost control and ignited in southeastern Andhra Pradesh state, underscoring the dangerous state of Indian roads.

Five passengers out of the 51 people aboard the air-conditioned luxury Volvo bus managed to escape by breaking windows, said Pradeep Reddy, additional police superintendent in the state’s Mahabubnagar district. The driver and his assistant fled through the door even as the rest perished in the rapidly spreading blaze. Indian media reported that the emergency exits jammed, preventing escape.

Police said the bus was on an overnight run from Bangalore to Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, when it tried to overtake another vehicle around 5 a.m. and hit a drain, igniting the fuel tank.

Most passengers were reportedly sleeping when the accident occurred some 90 miles south of Hyderabad. Authorities reported having trouble identifying the badly charred bodies. Adding to the difficulty, several people boarded along the way, so their names were not on any passenger list.

Again this shows a sideways agenda of the “Gun Death” fanatics, as one person shot dead at LA International is a massive national news story, but 44 people burned to death in a bus isn’t even relevant.

Those who use the metric of “Gun Death” as some sort of public safety criteria barely classify as human in my book. Certainly they have no regard for human lives…just banning guns!
