“Gun Death” Remote Controlled Helicopter

Yikes!!

A 19-year-old man was killed on Thursday when a remote-controlled model helicopter that he was piloting in a Brooklyn park struck him in the head, the authorities said.
The man, Roman Pirozek Jr. of Woodhaven, Queens, had been operating the large model — measuring several feet end to end — when it hit him and the top of his head was sliced off, the police said.

H/T to Whipped Cream Difficulties who added to his email: “Back in the old days of USENET, I remember someone had a .sig file that said “Remote controlled helicopters are just flying chainsaws with stability problems.”

Dangerous, and frankly toys…but we’re talking about banning guns that have legitimate defensive uses? Shows how much honesty “Gun Safety” fiends have amongst the lot of them!

Also H/T to Motor-T

Interesting Article

Found this left-leaning, very biased, and questionably done article. Still I find it VERY interesting in its methods and outcome.

The next mass shooting will take place on February 12, 2014, in Spokane, Washington. It will be committed by an emotionally disturbed, 38 year-old white man who will kill seven people and wound six more at a place he used to work using a semi-automatic handgun he purchased legally in the state.

That, at least, is what a look at the data on past such shootings might indicate. We’ll say at the outset: Every assertion in the first paragraph is a function of probability, not fact. The next mass shooting — which will happen somewhere, sometime — will almost certainly not be in that place at that time. But a look at the historic data on such killings, compiled and shared by Mother Jones magazine, makes each of those predictions defensible.

OK this would have been a really cool article save the “Data compiled and shared by Mother Jones” bit. I’m not saying the data is garbage, I’m just saying Mother Jones has such a bee up their ass for taking away all my guns I’d need to go over every shred of data, or compile my own set and repeat this story using FBI and CDC data before I’d trust it.

Still read the whole article and you’ll see it really isn’t relevant because it is pointy-headed intellectualism at its maximum. I rather admire it for its hardcore geekyness. Essentially they took all of the “Mass Shootings” by Mother Jones’ standards. (I’ll note that running a quick search of the page there are none of the MASSIVE gang shootings from Chicago here, nor did Mother Jones warrant the Mattapan Massacre in Boston as a “Mass Shooting”…so their whole “White Male” data appears to be because gang shootings are discounted because they are) And created an “Average”.

Of course we’ll note that the latest Mass shooting has killed 12 people, and the shooter used a pump-action shotgun. Hence the geekyness. You see “Averages” are as common as outlier, and sometimes impossible…when was the last time you saw a family buy two and a half children’s admissions to an amusement park? Also the average IQ for humans is around 100, but to find somebody with an IQ of EXACTLY 100 is a rarity, even when you factor in that a person with an IQ of 100 will score between 94 and 106 on the best tests.

Of course the big take away from this is that even with this pile of biased data it still can’t support the case for gun control. You can’t ban semi-auto handguns because A) Its illegal per Heller and McDonald, but B) Because that’s also the most common DEFENSIVE gun, so for all the lives you allegedly “Save” from a ban, you’ll have even more people in the ground from violent assault.

There’s no point in passing a law where people can’t bring guns to their place of employment, because these mass-shooting locations already did that, and I’d argue that those rules EMPOWERED the killer.

Last, you want to attempt to make it a crime for White Males to own guns? Uh-huh.

Further all of those earnest statements assumed the law will actually WORK. Look at my brief rebuttal about black males with guns. Chicago and Boston? Yeah mass murder, and by people who could not legally own a firearm. The Mattapan slaying was a feud in the illegal drug trade. The drugs the parties were dealing are OUTRIGHT banned, just like the felony gun possession committed by the murderer…just like murder.

So yeah, thanks anti-gun people, you made our argument FOR us. What we need is a REAL change, not the game plan of the 1960s. End “Gun Free Zones”. Make it so no retribution can be taken against somebody LAWFULLY carrying a gun. Trust me, if they can carry without incident at the grocery store, and at the movie theater, or at the local burger joint, they aren’t going to turn into a psychopath at the office, at the post office, and on an airplane.

Further you would really make things more difficult for the very rare deranged people who do think shooting everybody in sight is a cool idea. Certainly by averages (and by “Averages” I mean “Without a very few exceptions”) these people choose locations like Columbine, Like Virginia Tech, Like Fort Hood, Like the Washington Navy Yard, because they know that SWAT response will be at LEAST 4 minuets, and in that time they will be a GOD.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed-man is King….that also goes for the land of the disarmed. Do you want the one psychopath with a Remington 870 or a GLOCK 19 to be King?

“Gun Death” Autistic Child

This is a sad one:

f you haven’t heard about Alex Spourdalakis, you need to hear about him. His mother allegedly murdered him in cold blood, stabbing him four times in the chest with a knife after her effort to overdose him on sleeping pills failed. She was allegedly aided and abetted in this by Alex’s “godmother,” and they then killed the family cat before retiring with what they evidently expected would be fatal dose of sleeping pills, the same ones that hadn’t successfully killed Alex.

Crazy. There’s talk of poor medical care from the system, but overall I’m of a mind to simply call the mother bug-fuck-nuts and make a day of it.

No matter what, this is not a “Gun Death”, so just look the other way!

Truth and Lies

Guess who’s on which side.

First the New York Times:

The suspect in the killing of 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday test-fired an AR-15 assault rifle at a Virginia gun store last week but was stopped from buying one because state law there prohibits the sale of such weapons to out-of-state buyers, according to two senior law enforcement officials.

Instead, the suspect, Aaron Alexis of Texas, bought a law-enforcement-style shotgun — an 870 Remington pump-action — and used it on Monday as he rampaged through the navy yard, said the officials, who requested anonymity because the investigation was continuing.

Translation: “Ok he didn’t have an AR-15…but he WANTED TO REALLY BADLY! SO WE STILL NEED TO BAN THEM!!11!!11”

Now Emily Miller:

Aaron Alexis passed Federal Bureau Investigation and Virginia state background checks to purchase a shotgun from Sharpshooters Small Arms Range in Lorton, Va., over the weekend.

Alexis did not attempt to purchase a rifle or handgun from the store, The Washington Times has learned exclusively.

Translation: The “Reporters” at the Old Grey Lady are a bunch of fucking liars!

Also bonus points:

The source characterized the amount of ammunition purchased as “not much.”

Yeah, there’s a lot of talk about how much ammo the Aurora shooter had bought…but it wasn’t like he was carrying all of it. Same here, shotgun ammo is HEAVY, so he couldn’t have been carrying much on his person.

So more media agenda-driven lies. Good job guys!

Common Use

So reading the CSGV presser I got to thinking about this part:

And he is reported to have employed the weapon that has now become the choice tool of cop killers, mass murderers, and insurrectionists nationwide—the AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifle.

So first up, AR-15s aren’t the tools of “Cop Killers”, as most criminals are packing pistols because it is illegal for them to have ANY gun, so a concealable one is ideal, and second, most cops die in auto accidents, so the most common tool of Cop killers are cars. The “Insurrectionists” crap is just CSGV boilerplate, and frankly they’ve just destroyed the meaning of the word. To them anybody who owns a gun is an “Insurrectionists”.

Still there HAVE been a few mass shootings with AR-15s, tho frankly not enough to really say its a definitive first choice for any group of psychos.

When I heard there was no rifle used, and it was a shotgun, I immediately thought “Bet it was a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500”. This isn’t because I had any inside information, I just know that the 870 and the 500 are the two more affordable and widely used shotguns in America. The AR-15 is quickly becoming ubiquitous in gun safes around the country, but for every $900 AR-15 there are two or three $300 Shotguns.

Which leads me to the omission of CSGV. The AR-15 is a very popular rifle for target shooters, for hunters, and for home defense. Its a great platform, easy to modify, accurate, and the ammo and magazines are relatively inexpensive. Further you can go off the .223/5.56 reservation to a bunch of calibers from the fairly pedestrian 6.8 Rem SPC, and the .300 BLK/Whisper, to some more creative chamberings.

The gun is an everyman (and woman) gun, and the Anti-rights people HATE that! First, they can’t divide and conquer like they did in ’94 buy pitting the bolt-action hunters against the black-rifle fans, because the dude in the deer stand probably has an AR on him…or at least he knows a guy who has great luck with one. Further they have the whole Heller v DC decision that states that “guns in common use” cannot be banned.

Still they do their best to paint AR-15 owners as a fringe group. The only problem with that is a wide majority of shooters own and shoot black rifles, and oddly they won’t be convinced that they’re the only one.

Still we shouldn’t depend on this, keep people informed and crush the opposition!

Starbucks Folds….Kinda

I must say, some people are looking into this more than I think is warranted. Starbucks is no longer welcoming firearms in their stores.

Starbucks says guns are no longer welcome in its cafes, though it is stopping short of an outright ban on firearms.

The fine line that the retailer is walking to address the concerns of both gun rights and gun control advocates reflects how heated the issue has become, particularly in light of recent mass shootings.

Most states allow people to openly carry licensed guns in some way and many companies do not have policies banning firearms in their stores. But Starbucks has become a target for gun control advocates, in part because of its liberal-leaning corporate image. In turn, gun rights advocates have been galvanized by the company’s decision to defer to local laws.

In an interview, CEO Howard Schultz said the decision to ask customers to stop bringing guns into stores came as a result of the growing frequency of “Starbucks Appreciation Days” in recent months, in which gun rights advocates turn up at Starbucks cafes with firearms….Schultz hopes people will honor the request not to bring in guns but says the company will nevertheless serve those who do.

“We will not ask you to leave,” he said.

A copy of the corporate memo can be found here. Honestly I read this whole thing as Starbucks being an unwilling participant in the open carry/ concealed carry debate. I think the ONLY thing this does is pushes the politics away. Certainly I think as Second Amendment advocates and activists we should respect them by no longer having “Starbucks Appreciation Days” and other demonstrations at their locations.

If you would like to continue patronizing their stores, I see nothing changing. If you’re open carrying and step in for a coffee or a baked good, the policy states that they will not even address your firearm unless you make it an issue. Which is the way it should be. If you want strangers to recognize your right to open carry, you should probably do it someplace else, and it appears if you get all “Shall not be infringed” in a store they will politely ask you to leave, and you should comply.

They aren’t going to be posting (binding or otherwise) signage in their stores, nor are they going to make issue for pedestrian carrying of firearms.

I personally have one Starbucks gift card I’ll need to use up, and then I’ll be done. I wasn’t a Starbucks Customer before this political side came to light, I won’t be a customer after. No harm, no foul. No offense, but I’m not a fan of their products or prices, but I was willing to overpay for mediocre tea, or down right terrible coffee to support them, and offset alleged “boycotts”.

I will cease and desist, and will do so with no hard feelings. They are not an anti-gun company like other groups are that directly ban firearms on premises, and support anti-rights politics with corporate monies. They simply don’t appreciate us bringing politics into their shops, and I can fully respect that.

Now what will be interesting is how the other side treats this. Its a hollow victory for them, as it only discourages protests and political actions by pro-gun groups. It does nothing to even inconvenience the individual gun owner or person who open carries. Since anti-rights advocates are unhappy people, I don’t see this sitting well with them, and I see more demands for boycotts or more hard-line measures….all without pro-gun people helping them out.

From Moms Demand Action:

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America launched a campaign pressuring Starbucks to eliminate guns from its stores nationwide in early July. Just two months later, Starbucks is announcing that the company will no longer allow guns on its property, both inside and outside of its stores. Until now, Starbucks allowed patrons to bring loaded firearms inside stores in states where concealed and open carry is permitted. According to Starbucks’ new policy, which goes into effect today, “Everyone is welcome in our stores, but weapons are not.”

“This is a huge win for American moms who fought for this policy change, which will make Starbucks customers safer. Because Starbucks is a business icon, this policy change represents a sea change in American culture, which is finally shifting away from allowing guns in public places,”

Ok that part is all bullshit. Starbucks still allows lawful carry in stores and on properties, and because of that it isn’t eliminating ANYTHING. At best they are discouraging the most flagrant of pro-gun activism. I’m fine with people open carrying AR-15s to educate people of the rights, and to show that 30-40 people can show up armed, drink some coffee, hand out some literature, and go home with no harm done. But let’s face it, the average citizen is simply carrying a pistol, concealed or not for their day-to-day defense, and the Starbucks policy really doesn’t effect the individual at all.

Now some truth:

Starbucks’ new policy stops short of a ban, and Moms Demand Action will continue to pressure the company if there are additional instances of accidental shootings and open carry rallies inside stores.

Sorry Starbucks, I think the gunnies will be more than willing to acquiesce to your request, but the other side isn’t as willing.

Best wishes to you.
