I’m not one of these people who gets bent out of shape from Pit Bulls, but I’m very impressed to see any MALE dog so gentle to small animals.

TEACH YOUR FAMILY HOW TO SHOOT!

Wow there is a LOT in this story!

A Wisconsin woman saved her husband from an attacking black bear outside of their cabin by hitting the animal with a gun, authorities said….Ninnemann briefly escaped and ran to the corner of the cabin, but the bear mauled him again. Ninnemann’s wife, Marie, then found a shotgun in the cabin’s basement, but she didn’t know how to load it properly. She instead took the weapon outside the struck the bear on its head, allowing her husband to escape. The couple then backtracked into the cabin with the gun pointed at the bear.

OK let’s run down the points:

– Guns aren’t just for two-legged predators, wild animals still attack, be you in the wilderness or the suburbs.

-Guns save lives….even if its just used for a club.

– TEACH YOUR FAMILY members how to ready and shoot your defensive guns.

The best way to train this is with dummy rounds or snap caps so there is no risk of a negligent discharge. Teach them how to load, ready, and safely deploy the defensive arms. Of course you should also be teaching them live fire at the range.

This includes spouses, but also any child old enough to handle and deploy a weapon.

It could save their lives, or in this case yours!!

Be Safe Out There!

Heh, Good For Them

I actually agree with the Brady Campaign!

A gun control support group is suing a north Georgia town that has a law requiring gun ownership.

The Washington-based Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the town of Nelson. The group claims the law is unconstitutional. It contends the Second Amendment doesn’t require anyone to have a gun.

City leaders passed the ordinance April 1 requiring every head of household to have a gun and ammunition. But there are many exceptions.

Not on the suing part, because, frankly the towns that have this law NEVER enforce it, so its all show. But indeed it SHOULD be illegal to MANDATE gun ownership. We all know the right to free speech also includes the right to remain silent.

Still with all the exceptions, they might find themselves an uphill battle. Of course Irony is that this is the same group that SUPPORTED Chicago and DC’s ban on gun ownership.

But we all know how inconsistent they can be.

Still the best part is the Brady Camp is DIRT poor, and lawsuits are expensive, even bullshit ones like this. So I’m happy to watch them bleed out in the bush!

When Did This Change?

As a boy I’d take off into the woods with a promise to my parents that I’d be home in time for dinner, and I’d return covered in mud, dirt, and usually there would be a new gash or two in my hide.

Occasionally I see kids out playing alone, but not often. I guess I’m not the only one:

Do your kids have that much grit today? I doubt it. Parents now try to protect kids from all danger. In New York City, some won’t let teenagers go to school by themselves.

Lenore Skenazy, author of “Free-Range Kids,” thinks that’s absurd.

“Free-range kids are kids we believe in,” she told me. “They can do things on their own.”

Once she allowed her own 9-year-old to ride the subway alone. After she wrote about that, she was labeled “World’s Worst Mom.” Really. Google “world’s worst mom.” Skenazy’s name comes up.

“Free-Range Kids” promotes events like “Take Our Children to the Park and Leave Them There Day.” Skenazy says leaving kids in the park without adult supervision teaches them grit. Kids get used to bugs, rocks and a lack of constant supervision. They become leaders by discovering how to organize their own lives without parents bossing them around.

And they are not likely to be kidnapped. The horror of what happened to the three women in Cleveland makes all of us more frightened of sexual assaults and other threats. Skenazy says that today’s parents are so frightened that only 6 percent allow young kids to play outside unsupervised. But the risk of harm is small, and we put our kids at greater risk, says Skenazy, if we don’t allow them the freedom to learn from their own mistakes — to acquire grit.

Go read the whole article, but I certainly think kids should know how to entertain themselves, and explore their world, and frankly parents could use a break too.

“Gun Death” Fugative

A running man is a desperate man…don’t get in his way:

A knife-wielding man being chased after a fight ran into a Target store Monday, slashing two men and stabbing and seriously injuring a 16-year-old girl, authorities said.

The suspect ran into the store in the East Liberty neighborhood after a fight with several men down the street, police said.

It sounds like the 16 year old almost bled out…and that can happen. Scary.

But no gun!

More Short-Sighted Gun Laws

I gotta scratch my head sometimes. I think this law will overall be good:

Gov. Martin O’Malley on Thursday signed the gun control bill that he promised he would. “We’ve chosen to take action by advancing the strategies that work to save lives,” he said in a statement.

The new law bans 45 types of assault weapons, decreases the number of bullets allowed in magazines and requires handgun buyers to undergo safety training and submit fingerprints to obtain a license.

Among the assault weapons banned is the AR-15

Oh yeah the law is stupid and terrible…so why good?

The National Rifle Assn., the leading gun rights advocacy group, has already announced it will seek a legal challenge to the Maryland law.

Banning magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, as well as rifles with one of the standard “Evil” Features (PDF of the Bill) definitely goes directly against Heller and McDonald’s “Common Use” test. So a state getting swatted post-McDonald is nothing but good for all of us.

And then there’s this!

A House Democrat inspired by the last James Bond movie has offered legislation to produce handguns with “personalization technology.”

The idea is to produce guns that can only be used by the gun’s owners. Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.) cited the latest James Bond movie, “Skyfall,” as inspiration for the bill.

“In the most recent James Bond film, Bond escapes death when his handgun, which is equipped with technology that recognizes him as its owner, becomes inoperable when it gets into the wrong hands,” Tierney’s office said in a statement introducing the bill. “This technology, however, isn’t just for the movies — it’s a reality.”

No, its just a movie, and I’m very happy to say I get to vote against you next election (as well as every previous election).

Yeah, Movies are totally real. Good job!

“Gun Death” Bridge Jump

Why did this happen?

Kansas City police say a father and daughter are presumed dead after they jumped, holding hands, from a highway bridge into the frigid Missouri River….Police say the woman was holding something in a blanket that initially was thought to be a baby but more likely was the family’s Chihuahua.

The victims are believed to be a father in his 50s and daughter in her 30s who lived in a mobile home in a rural area south of Kansas City.

So sad and strange, and I have no idea WHY they did this.

But I guess I shouldn’t care because it wasn’t a gun….right?

OK Resurrection sucked, despite the great cast, and Joss Whedon script and obvious comparisons to Firefly.

Still this stuff is AWESOME!
