“Gun Death” Boston

I debated about giving this event the “Gun Death” tag, and decided the show must go on here.

I went to Joe’s site first thing this morning because Joe’s an expert in explosives, and I was glad to see he gave some of his expertise on the attack at the marathon.

Let’s hope they catch the person responsible for this soon.

We’re all Fine Here

As many of you have heard there have been multiple bombs detonated in Boston today, unknown who did this but it looks really bad.

Mrs. Weer’d is out of town for the next few days, so she’s safe where she is. I was in Boston when it happened, but thankfully nowhere near the blast site. It was a bit nerve racking getting home, but I’m here, and I’m going to lay low for the night.

I’ve also been in touch with Jay, Christina, and the Sci-Fi family, and they’re all safe as well.

I’ll be keeping my ear to the news on this.

Stay safe out there.

What Do YOUR Teeth Look Like?

I’ve seen a TON of these in Lake Champlain, but I’ve never managed to get a hook in one. I’ve given more than a few pat-pats while swimming, they’re pretty low-key fish. They don’t much care for being petted, but then don’t bolt until you have a hand on them. 🙂

Governor LePage Rolls out the Welcome Mat

To gun makers:

When Americans think of Maine, they often think of rocky coasts, lobster and moose. But Maine also has a long and proud tradition of military service, a legacy of world-class manufacturing, and a high percentage of personal firearm ownership.

That’s why I invite manufacturers of firearms and related accessories—some of which are under siege in their home states by politicians pushing anti-gun legislation—to come to Maine. As a state that is fiercely protective of our right to bear arms, we will welcome you and your business.

When a Bangor daily newspaper in February tried to get the names, addresses and dates of birth of all Mainers with concealed-firearms permits, we leapt into action, drafting and passing a bill in 48 hours to temporarily shield the personal information. Democrats joined Republicans to swiftly enact this emergency legislation. (Legislation to permanently shield the information is in committee.)

Although Maine has one of the highest rates of firearm ownership in the country, we also have one of the lowest rates of gun violence. We are a safe state, and we plan to keep it that way. Even better, our dedication to protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners crosses party lines. Maine Democrats, many of whom serve rural areas where hunting and gun ownership are a way of life, readily agree with Republicans that the rights of firearms owners must not be infringed…..Beretta, Colt and Magpul: Come to Maine. Our tradition ranges from Hiram S. Maxim, inventor of the first fully automatic machine gun, who was born in 1840 in Sangerville, Maine, to the renowned Bath Iron Works, which produces the world’s most advanced surface warships. As the Navy said during World War II, “Bath-built is best-built.” Other firearms and defense contractors in Maine include Smith & Wesson and General Dynamics GD -1.02% .

It goes on from there, and is really eloquent. I hope some of those companies take him up on it!

Further I left Maine because of the lack of Jobs, and settled in anti-freedom Massachusetts because it had a strong job market, but was still close to my family in Northern New England. Maine needs jobs, and manufactures bring those.

That Trayvon Martin Target Flap

And the Response

Where do you stand?

I personally can see the idea that just owning these targets as controversial. Even with my own personal review of the documents on the Martin shooting, and my feelings that it was a clean shoot, I would be very uncomfortable with owning or shooting these targets. I get the point of them being a no-shoot, and using no-shoot targets.

Still I don’t see anything in this case that warrants the level of termination. Also given all the horrible cases I read about officers acting beyond the pale in many compromising situations (officer “Roid Rage” Harless being the best example) who are suspended with pay pending an investigation, this seems politically motivated more than logically.

“Gun Death” Suicide

In New York City. No gun, but what do they have a dirge of in NYC?

Manhattan anesthesiologist jumps 30 floors to his death one year after he had to pay out ‘large amount’ in malpractice suit

In NYC its a lot of work to get a gun, but it isn’t much work to step out onto the balcony! This is a victory in “Gun Death” by Mayor Bloomberg, and he should anoint his loafer with the “Success” spread on the sidewalk from this!

Not So Blurry

The Weerdling is starting to shape up in Mrs. Weer’d:

Weerdling3

Looking a lot more like a baby in there! Still a few more weeks before we know if its a boy or a girl, then the Mrs. and I can start the argument on what the baby’s name will be!

Good times!

Images of the Antis Misdirection

This one is a classic Misdirection:

So here we have the image of a young boy murdered in the New Town school, and the laments of his mother. A sad story, and one I wish on nobody, and one we all can feel for.

Yet down at the bottom is an endorsement for the anti-rights registration scheme that they are improperly calling “Universal Background Checks”. Of course we all know that the guns used in New Town were bought at local gun shops with a background check on behalf of the killer’s mother. The guns apparently were also locked up. They were then illegally accessed, and used to kill the rightful owner for a clean theft, then illegally taken to a school “Gun Free Zone” where they were used to murder…also a crime.

This is standard-issue blood-dancing. All the proposed laws for this case were followed, and no proposed laws would have prevented this case. In politics its called “Waiving the Bloody Shirt”, and it is universally considered a contemptible act. Its in poor form to get emotions high for a RELEVANT action, in this case it is deplorable as it is designed to distract from actions that are entirely irrelevant to the case.

Of course they show no shame in using these images because they HAVE no shame.

Police District

Wow, via Miguel

It really turns beyond the pale when the tackle the gentleman who actively cooperates when the cops tell him to turn around and put his hands behind his back.

Let’s hope these officers loose their badges, and do some jail time. Anything short of that is bad justice.

Also its too bad nobody handcuffed didn’t choose to read the inscriptions in the monument while they were handcuffed by the police.
