“Gun Death” More Home Made Planes

We talked on this subject before, now again:

Lowell Sterchi, who works at Collegedale Municipal Airport, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the student was being trained by an instructor in the small plane when the canopy came off.

The instructor, who also was not identified, managed to land the plane at the airport while emergency crews scoured the countryside around East Brainerd, Tenn., about eight miles away looking for the victim. East Brainerd is in the Chattanooga area.

And for an added twist:

WRBC reported that flight records showed that the plane was built by 82-year-old Clarence Andrews, a local resident, who died in December in an accident involving a different plane.

I hate to speak ill of the dead, but I’ll just say I wouldn’t be interested in a plane made by this man.

Still if only guns were regulated as much as planes…or something.

On This Day

Jesus has risen, and all bunnies are chocolate. And Jesus spoke to all the mothers and said “Ham and green beans would be nice!”

However you celebrate it, and whatever your faith, Happy Easter to all!

Morning Science: Sea Hare toxin

Neat story from C-90

The marine-dwelling sea hare converts pigment from its food into a chemical weapon….Some animals create noxious chemicals by building them in-house from bits of protein, others order toxins to-go, such as monarch caterpillars that eat poisonous milkweed plants, becoming poisonous to predatory birds in the process. But performing slight alterations to turn a benign algae pigment into a toxic compound is a new level of chemical ingenuity, says marine chemical ecologist James McClintock of the University of Alabama at Birmingham….The team also showed how the sea hares make APV. The chemical precursor to APV is a mild-mannered photosynthesis pigment called phycoerythrobilin that’s found in red algae and a few other organisms. Sea hares graze on the algae, loading up on phycoerythrobilin. Just two small chemical tweaks — snipping off a protein and adding a chemical decoration known as a methyl group — by the sea hare produces the offensive APV, says Kamio. The sea hare’s ink gland serves as its chemistry lab, Kamio and colleagues report in the May Chemistry & Biodiversity.

This is really neat, and reminds me of their better-known cousins the nudibranchs who steal their weapons from others:

Nudibranchs that feed on hydrozoids can store the hydrozoids’ nematocysts (stinging cells) in the dorsal body wall, the cerata.[9] These stolen nematocysts, called kleptocnidae, wander through the alimentary tract without harming the nudibranch. Once further into the organ, the cells are assimilated by intestinal protuberances and brought to specific placements on the creature’s hind body. Nudibranchs can protect themselves from the hydrozoids and their nematocysts; the specific mechanism is yet unknown, but special cells with large vacuoles probably play an important role.

When you look at a nematocyst under a microscope you quickly see it is actually a mechanical weapon made from cellular structure, so how the Nudibranch manages to essentially ingest a loaded mousetrap without triggering the kill-bar is really an amazing feat of nature.

“Gun Death” Bigotry

Oh and all the bigots are Republicans!

The body of a two-year-old girl has been found in a Maryland dumpster, after the mother, 25, confessed to smothering her daughter to death and disposing of her because she had a ‘Muslim curse’.

Authorities finally located Kassidey’s body on Friday after searching through 95 tons of garbage on railcars on their way to a landfill.

Muslim curse, in the right-wing bible-belt state of Maryland!

“Gun Death” Porn Stars

Not that I blame porn stars for this

Retired New York porn actress Jennifer Marchant entered a plea of not guilty Monday to second degree murder in the stabbing death of boyfriend Ralph Stone.

Marchant, 23, was arrested Wednesday night when police and paramedics responded to a domestic disturbance call at her apartment.

They arrived to find Stone, 24, bleeding from a single stab wound to the neck.

Good thing nobody had a gun!

“Gun Death” Bow

On a College Campus!

According to police, Krumm’s son entered the college with a special hunting bow he had hidden under a blanket. First he proceeded to where his dad’s girlfriend was giving class and stabbed here several times. She was found dead outside the college with several knife wounds.

He then went to the classroom where his dad was teaching and shot an arrow in his father’s head.

Despite being critically injured, Mr. Krumm diverted the attention of his son from the students to himself by beginning a fight with him, thereby allowing the 6 students to run out of the classroom unhurt.

Once the students were safe, Mr. Krumm stopped fighting. His son then administered a fatal stabbing to himself, taking his own life.

Maybe they should be “Bow and Knife-Free Zones”…or maybe they shouldn’t be hunting grounds for the cowardly and insane.

It Can’t Happen To You

Random Killings

Investigators told reporters Wednesday they believe the case of a baby who was fatally shot in his stroller during an alleged robbery attempt by a teenager was random — something they hadn’t said previously…According to the indictment, the teenager shot the 13-month-old baby in the face while trying to rob the child’s mother. The indictment also charges the suspect with shooting another person in an unrelated robbery attempt earlier this month.

Gun control won’t stop any of this. The gun wasn’t an “Assault Weapon”, nor was it even a centerfire gun, or even a semi-auto. The shooter is 15 years old, and without any other prior convictions is, too young to own a handgun, and two young to get the required carry permit to carry a handgun. He would not pass any background checks, and it is totally illegal for ANYBODY to sell, give, or give unsupervised access to a firearm.

And this is without getting into that whole robbing and murdering thing, which is also illegal. Also it appears we have now three victims in two robberies that are not gang related or known to the shooter.

Hey but those who will proudly use these “Gun Deaths” to push their agendas
, when their laws do nothing to protect who they claim to care about.

All they care about is banning guns.
