The Gulf

I’m really thinking I’m onto something when I mentioned after the election that we are not a nation of Moderates, but a nation of Extremists on both sides, with apathy and vacancy in between.

Have a look at this Huff-Po article on old Gun Ads.

Now I’ll admit that letting your little girl sleep with an Iver Johnson, or having a lady holding a shotgun pimping beer is in poor taste. Also some of the adds probably run a tad chauvinistic, but I’ll give that a pass as times were VERY different back then. I mean all Doctors were men, and most women didn’t work at all, and the stories you hear at your workplace sexual harassment training ACTUALLY happened with regularity.

Still they link the Savage 1907 .32 add which pushed their lovely little 10-shot pistol as a woman’s defensive arm. What’s the problem with that?

Still most of the ads are people hunting and target shooting, and kids using .22 and BB guns! They find these ads shocking? There is a huge cultural difference here.

And there’s this video:

I don’t much care for the Bushmaster ad, and all I could think is “This is what you get when you sell your company to a non-gun holding corp!” But I was upset that a gun company would so blatantly exclude women!

And they blame MEN as a GROUP for the mass shootings in this country???? WOW! Honestly the trend for males as the mass-shooters strikes me more to have in common with serial killer profiles, than “Men with weapons!”

Oh and just because, I’ll close with this video.

He knows nothing about guns or gun laws…but boy we need to ban them!

Sharpton Doing What He Does Best

Saying Stupid Things

Sharpton said he will organize a protest against the NRA and gun manufacturers that will kick off with a rally at the influential lobbying group’s Washington headquarters next month.

“We need to get a real movement against those who get rich off the perpetuation of killing,” said the civil rights leader.

“The only purpose of assault weapons is for war,” Sharpton continued. “You don’t hunt with assault weapons. Nobody shoots down prey with so many bullets you couldn’t eat the prey.”

Of course these days when an anti-rights activist like Sharpton says “Assault Weapon” who knows what he’s talking about. Is he talking about Assault Rifles? Yeah well select fire guns are the most heavily regulated guns in America, and there hasn’t been a recorded criminal act with one in decades. Guns described in the 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban” are such “Weapons of War” that no military that I can think of issues a gun that meets that description.

And you don’t hunt with “Assault Weapons”? That’s odd, given that they’re rapidly becoming the most-used hunting rifle in America. They’re light, handy, available in a huge variety of calibers, and accurate to ranges most people hunt at.

Still, Rev, what does the 2nd Amendment say about hunting?

Of course Rev wants to take away our guns because some nuts abuse their rights harming others…kinda like a public speaker inciting a riot that killed 7 people.

Al Sharpton’s microphone, and TV show are weapons of war, and Reverend Al is getting rich off then killing!

App For Breaking the Law

Heard an ad for this App on the radio:

MassDOT Secretary and CEO Richard A. Davey today announced a new smart phone app that provides real time travel conditions along the Interstate 93 corridor in Massachusetts.

The Real Time Travel App, “RTTM”, displays color-coded, current travel times on I-93 to and from Boston in real time. Boston-based transportation IT service company, KCUS Inc., developed the app, which follows the real-time travel message board traffic management system installed along I-93 earlier this year. The data displayed by the app is the same information displayed on the I-93 travel time message boards.

Also in the article:

As always, MassDOT reminds drivers to avoid using their smart phones while driving and check travel conditions before they drive.

From the Law:

Section 13B. (a) No operator of a motor vehicle shall use a mobile telephone, or any handheld device capable of accessing the internet, to manually compose, send or read an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle. For the purposes of this section, an operator shall not be considered to be operating a motor vehicle if the vehicle is stationary and not located in a part of the public way intended for travel.

Wicked useful app!

“Gun Death” More Monsters

Monsters!

A 9-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of a toddler in a St. Louis suburb….Defense attorney Bill Walker said the boy’s mother and grandmother both died years ago and that the other adults in his life were detained after being charged with child endangerment. The Belleville News Democrat reports that prosecutors alleged those three adults left the toddler unsupervised with four other children.

Even unsupervised, what brings a child to murder another child? There are just some bad seeds about, and guns have nothing to do with it. Maybe this was just a fluke, but this 9 year old will be released at the latest on his 21st Birthday, after spending much of his childhood around other youthful violent criminals.

What scares you more? Meeting up with your standard CCW holder with a loaded gun in a dark alley, or bouncing into a bad seed like this with something as simple as a pocket knife or a pipe wrench?

Huh?

From this Article

Guns are not like alcohol and drugs, both of which we have tried unsuccessfully to prohibit. Many people have an intense desire for alcohol or drugs that is independent of what other people may do. But the need for a gun for self-defense depends on whether other people have them and how effective the protection and deterrence provided by the state are. Thus, in other Western countries in which there are fewer guns, there are correspondingly fewer instances in which people need guns for effective self-defense.

He should Fly over to the UK and talk to the families of all the victims of violent crime and murder. UK has an abysmal violent crime rate, but they don’t shoot each-other much…so they don’t need guns, right?

Also I suspect the people of Rwanda would have loved to have even a shitty Hi-Point rather than die by the stoke of a Machete.

They’re all heart!

How John Lott Got His Start Too!

Lee Dorin is an economist. He has a lot of libertarian tendencies, but isn’t really a gun guy.

Still as an economist, it means he has an above average tolerance for numerical data and number crunching. You can quickly see what happens when he makes a rebuttal to an anti-gun video by Cenk Uygur. (BTW interesting that a Turkish Immigrant would be anti-gun, given that his people orchestrated the Armenian Genocide)

Its a shame that Lee didn’t directly address the fallacy of the metric of “Gun Death”.

Oh well, a pretty brutal frisking, even when he spots Cenk both “Gun Death” and the whole “Good Faith” bit.

Still, those of you who know his story, pro-gun activist Dr. John Lott was originally an anti-gun guy, until he did some research on guns and public safety…this research was the lead-up to his book More Guns Less Crime, I hope that Lee keeps exploring this issue because we need him as much as we need Lott!

WE NEED TO PUSH HARDER AGAINST “GUN DEATH”!

Sean links this video:

Look at the bullshit use of the metric of “Gun Death” and the smug superiority of those Aussies! Yeah, their “Gun Death” went down…but their violent crime WENT UP!

WE NEED TO BEAT ON THIS DRUM PEOPLE! The folks in the video are calling Australia’s gun control movement a “Huge Success” because their “Gun Death” went down WHILE MORE PEOPLE WHERE HURT, MAIMED, AND MURDERED! THIS IS NOT A VICTORY!!! THIS IS NOT PUBLIC SAFETY! Yet here in America more people are carrying, more people are buying guns, the most popular gun is the AR-15 pattern rifle and our murder and violent crime rate HAS BEEN DROPPING!!!

But hey, we have more GUN DEATH! So we should be ashamed of ourselves!

Seriously, we need to shake the trees on this bullshit metric! People are NOT talking about the Connecticut tragedy because children were SHOT, we’re talking about it because CHILDREN were MURDERED! And while they again double-down on the smugness about the stabbing in China on the same day. Indeed those kids will live, and I’m glad for that…but they ignore the same stories where people died in China, the Philippines, and Japan. I’m sure there are countless more, but those are just the few I can remember off the top of my head.

We cannot keep accepting this junk-term from people. WE CANNOT! America does have a fairly high “Gun Death” rate compared to many countries because we have GUNS. This doesn’t mean we are more dangerous than other countries, just because you’re more likely to be stabbed or beaten to death there. Hell we have more fatal vehicle accidents because we have more CARS, doesn’t mean we’re more dangerous than countries where automobile ownership is much lower.

Seriously, we need to get AGGRESSIVE on this, I’ve compiled the “Gun Death?” Files for just this reason. People are talking about gun control right now because this bogus stat-cooking is being used to make America look more dangerous than places that have less guns AND MORE CRIME!

People don’t care about “Gun Death”, they care about their safety, and the safety of their loved ones. This is the fundamental truth. Every time you hear somebody say “Gun Death” or cite “Gun Death” in statistic we need to POUNCE on that.

We should not be giving sanctuary to such horrible dishonesty!

Will you help me?

“Common Sense”

The Joan Peterson Kind:

They lie, and they wring their hands. Penn speaks the truth and injects reality, and they look SHOCKED!

These people are so up in the ivory tower, they think they know everything about reality they’ve never seen?

“We Aren’t Comming For Your Guns”

Found this article…from who else, Joan Peterson, who links it on her twitter feed!

A conservative case for an assault weapons ban

I lamented the expiration of the federal assault weapons ban in 2004, which prohibited the manufacture and importation of certain particularly deadly guns, as well as magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

The ban wasn’t all that stringent — if you already owned a banned gun or high-capacity magazine you could keep it, and you could sell it to someone else — but at least it was something….I am not a social scientist, and I know that very smart ones are divided on what to do about gun violence. But reasonable, good-faith debates have boundaries, and in the debate about guns, a high-capacity magazine has always seemed to me beyond them….I get it. Someone bent on mass murder who has only a 10-round magazine or revolvers at his disposal probably is not going to abandon his plan and instead try to talk his problems out. But we might be able to take the “mass” out of “mass shooting,” or at least make the perpetrator’s job a bit harder.

To guarantee that there would never be another Tucson or Sandy Hook, we would probably have to make it a capital offense to so much as look at a gun. And that would create serious 2nd Amendment, 8th Amendment and logistical problems.

So what’s the alternative? Bring back the assault weapons ban, and bring it back with some teeth this time. Ban the manufacture, importation, sale, transfer and possession of both assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Don’t let people who already have them keep them. Don’t let ones that have already been manufactured stay on the market. I don’t care whether it’s called gun control or a gun ban. I’m for it.

I say all of this as a gun owner. I say it as a conservative who was appointed to the federal bench by a Republican president. I say it as someone who prefers Fox News to MSNBC, and National Review Online to the Daily Kos. I say it as someone who thinks the Supreme Court got it right in District of Columbia vs. Heller, when it held that the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to possess guns for self-defense. (That’s why I have mine.) I say it as someone who, generally speaking, is not a big fan of the regulatory state.

There you have it. “I’m a judge, so respect my authority! We don’t need a debate! Just round up all those guns!”

Of course Joan loves this…you see she isn’t out to take our guns away either! Except when she is.

This is why nothing will come from this. Its obvious that the President doesn’t care a wit. He let his lackluster toady “take charge”! And mostly he’s talking about the “Fiscal Cliff”, so chatter about gun bans is EXACTLY what he wants as cover for his incompetence as a leader.

Also another thing to think about. Since the majority of people in America own guns, and the vast majority of them own at least one item this jackboot is thinking about confiscating, we have a good situation for a civil war here.

If gun owners fight back against door-to-door confiscation, who will actually fight for the other side? Police? Military? ATF? These are all American gun owners too, are they going to happily turn in their personal gear, then pick up the same government issued gear to go attack lawful citizens who simply want to hold onto their property?
