Write Stupid Laws

Get whipped in the courts!

Earlier this week the animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Hot’s Kitchen, a popular Hermosa Beach restaurant, for violating the state’s consumer protection laws by continuing to sell foie gras after the state’s ban on the sale of the product took effect in July.
RELATED ARTICLES

Hot’s, along with other plaintiffs in Canada and New York, sued the state of California in July—seeking repeal of the ban shortly after it went into effect. And Hot’s, like a few others, as I noted in July, has given away free foie gras to customers who continue to demand it even after the ban took effect…..While I expect these and a few other noteworthy particulars will doom PETA’s case, this suit will lay bare a larger truth that I and a few others have long argued about California’s foie gras ban: It’s so vague as to be unenforceable in any manner that comports with constitutional requirements of due process.

After all, why hasn’t some governmental unit brought even one enforcement action in the state? Why isn’t Hermosa Beach enforcing the foie gras ban against Hot’s Kitchen?

LOL! They lose!

Tracking Your Kid for Profit

This is just disgusting!

Some of the students objected, but none of them objected as much as Hernandez did. She handed out fliers and started a petition opposing the RFID tags. For this, and for declining to wear such a tag, she was threatened with expulsion from the school. The district has made it clear that other students had better fall in line, too. According to the Charlottesville, Va.-based Rutherford Institute, which is representing Hernandez, students who don’t take part in the ID program will lose access to the cafeteria, the library, and extracurricular activities.

Why is the school taking such a hard line? Not for the sake of student safety—John Jay High already has 200 surveillance cameras. The real reason is money: Public schools receive funding based on a head count known as average daily attendance. The higher the head count, the more money the system gets.

Hence, Houston’s Spring school district boasted two years ago that after introducing RFID-enabled student IDs, the system “has recovered $194,000 in Average Daily Attendance (ADA) funding that would have been lost if the district had not been able to verify the attendance of students who were at school but not in their classroom when attendance was taken.”

Putting tracking chips on kids is pretty disgusting, but doing it so they can get credit where none is due is egregious. The sole purpose of this is so they can count kids who aren’t attending school as attending school. The chips can show the kid is on school grounds (or the chip is stuffed in a locker and the kid is AWOL), but they aren’t at the classes they should be attending. Yeah, the kid who ditched class and is smoking cigarettes in the parking lot, or eating snacks in the cafeteria, or surfing porn in the Library/Computer lab should be counted when it comes to school funding. Hey because showing up is good enough, right? This is like those shining lights of teachers who give points for the kid printing their name at the top of a test!

Of course it makes sense since teachers haven’t been, and have been actively against being paid to actually TEACH for decades.

Ummm…..

OK then

Didiet Jambart started taking the drug Requip manufactured by GlaxoSmithKiline to treat his Parkinson’s disease, in 2003. The medication turned the married father into a gay sex addict and compulsive gambler, who even stole from his friends and family, and sold his children’s toys to fund his habits.

He advertised himself for gay sex and lost a huge amount of money in online gambling. Before Jambart started taking Requip, he was considered a model member of the community he lived in. According to media reports, the behavior stopped, once Jambart, a former bank manager, stopped taking the drug.

They’re trying to say the drug made him gay? YEAH! It does sound like the drug had some issue with impulsive behavior and/or inhibitions, but I’m scratching my head on this one.

Still really bizarre story, had to share.

What if He Hadn’t Used a Gun?

So we talked about the Belcher murders yesterday. What I didn’t bring up was this story. Here’s a story of of a professional wrestler who killed his wife, his son, then himself.

The murders were all by suffocation, with Benoit ending his own life by hanging.

Its suggested that Benoit had early onset dementia from multiple concussions throughout his life, and possibly other mental effects from abuse of illegal steroids. No idea if this has any connection with Belcher, but there have been some very similar cases to this in football as well.

Still the anti-rights people are focusing on this story because they are “Gun Deaths”, yet the issue is likely MUCH more complicated than the simple fact that Jovan Belcher owned guns.

“Gun Death” More Samurai Swords

Why isn’t there a “Katana Death” Lobby?

Charges have been filed against the estranged son of the woman who was found stabbed to death in her north Minneapolis home on Monday.

Police say two witnesses sleeping inside the house woke to a masked Ishmael Roberts, 22, stabbing Beatrice Wilson with a samurai sword.

The Katana was the “Assault Weapon” of its time, and the Samurai were still using it even when firearms were becoming mainstream. It was even standard issue to the Japanese Army in WWII!

But not a “Gun Death”, so who cares?

Why Stand Your Ground Is Relevant

Have a look at this newly released picture of George Zimmerman.

This is not the face of a panicky mall-ninja. This is not the face of a zealous white-supremest. This is not the face of a bully.

This is the face of a man who was beaten within an inch of his life, and is ONLY alive because he had a gun on him that night. A night when he only thought he was going to buy groceries for the week.

The anti-rights types don’t want you to see this photo. Why? Because its the truth, and it speaks 1,000 words.

About That Hand-Egg Guy

So there’s a football guy who killed his Baby-Momma, then capped himself.

On an interesting note he got his college start at my Alma-mater UMaine. Belcher was much younger than me, so he wasn’t a player when I was there, but I’ll note that while I was wandering around on the Football field with a Tuba on my shoulder, the football team was warming up around us. I remember the first time the team hit the field while I was there. These guys are HUGE! I’m not a tiny guy myself, and I’ll note that the Tuba is not an instrument for those small in stature, and the smallest guy on the team dwarfed us. They don’t look that big from the bleachers.

Frankly the gun is really irrelevant when talking about football players. These guys are of a stock where they can kill with nothing more than their bare hands. Still this story has legs because of the gun.

Not because it was a monster of a man with some emotional issues. Not because people who’ve had multiple concussions often have rage issues. Not because steroid use is rampant in the NFL and those drugs often make their abusers dangerous. Not because this guy apparently had problems with the booze and the pills.

Nope, its just the guns, nothing else it relevant.

NYC Utopia!

Thank goodness they have such good gun laws in NYC!

One man is dead and another is fighting for his life this morning after they were shot in a Staten Island apartment building for being too noisy, police sources said.

The victims, 20 and 21, were in a first floor apartment in a Bodine Street building drinking and being rowdy around 6 a.m. when the upstairs neighbor complained to her boyfriend, the source said.

The man decided to take matters into his own hands and marched downstairs to put an end to the ruckus, sources said….The shooter fled from the building and is still at large, police said.

We see things like this in Boston all the time too. Oddly enough strict gun laws only seem to stop the good people who would never think to do things like this! Hey but Gun laws WORK!!!

Background Checks at Every Gun Sale

Remember, if we ban private sale of firearms criminals simply can’t get guns!

Authorities say they’re searching for dozens of rifles stolen from a train car somewhere in metro Atlanta.

Atlanta station WSB-TV reports that more than 100 rifles were taken in the heist from a CSX boxcar.

All one has to do is look at nations where firearms are heavily restricted to civilians to see how the criminal elements get their guns. I know Polish Ex-Pats who gave rifles to the Russian mob in trade for vodka! A cheap trade when it isn’t your hardware being “lost”. Mexico is the same way, the military simply steals their guns and sells them to the cartels, and corrupt police sell off guns.

It doesn’t say what the rifles are, or who was to receive them, but this could be a shipment of sporting rifles to a gun shop or distributor…or full-auto rifles being delivered to police or military.

Of course if private sales are as illegal as grand theft, nobody will do it, right?

Leftist Terrorists Don’t Count!

CSGV often uses the metric of “Gun Death” to further their agenda, they also have crafted the laughable “Insurrectionism Timeline”, attempting to show gun owners as terrorists ready to commit atrocities. Odd that they seem to have a strong political bias when they pick “Insurrectionists”. No mention of this:

A Canadian woman accused of involvement in the “largest eco-terrorism case” in US history has surrendered after a decade on the run….She is alleged to have been one of 13 members of a cell – known as The Family – linked to arson attacks in the western United States from 1996-2001.

The group believed their targets were damaging the environment.

The damage to the targets, including forest ranger stations and meat processing plants, ran to more than $40m (£25m)….Ten members of the cell – the Animal Liberation Front and Earth Liberation Front – pleaded guilty in 2007 to conspiracy and arson charges and were sentenced to between 37 and 156 months in prison.

After Ms Rubin’s surrender, two other members remain at large.

For those of us working in biomedical research these groups are no joke, they have been tied to not only damage of research facilities and killing the very animals they claim to protect, but actual attacks on scientists. I’m sure the same goes for forestry and food workers as well.

Hey but she’s a “Progressive” like the members of CSGV and other Joyce Foundation groups…so how bad could they be? Yet another entry you’ll never see on their site! We’re the real danger, remember!
